#Gardener1850 So glad you and your husband made it to the test site. I, too, have been wondering about people who may have flu and/or other URI's along with COVID-19. It sounds like many may have the virus.

Wishes and prayers for improving health!

I drove past IKEA here in my town. The parking lot was crowded. Like a normal day. WTH????? I guess we really do need to close this stuff down to save us from the morons. NOTHING at IKEA is necessary....IMHO Edited to say I am in Michigan.

Saw the same behavior in downtown San Antonio during spring break. It was as if it was a great vacation. People populating these places absolutely know but do not care.

Are we allowed to post articles in spanish? (CNN). Anyway Argentina just added Chile and Brazil to their list of countries that includes USA, China, EU, Japan, and SKorea. If you come to Argentina from any of those countries or areas you must stay in quarantine for 14 days. Get this...even if the person is an Argentine citizen.

CDC employee tests positive for COVID-19
March 16, 2020 at 4:13 p.m. ET

“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that one of its employees - who it said was not involved in the COVID-19 response - has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. It's the first CDC employee to be diagnosed with COVID-19. The individual last worked in the office on March 6. No other details were available at this time.”

BREAKING: Coronvirus Outbreak. One week after Italy's national lockdown (8 days after the north), Italy has three days with same number of new cases. This means 5 days after lockdown cases leveled off, consistent with typical incubation period of 3-5 days. This is good news. Yaneer Bar-Yam on Twitter

I'd say try not to use cash at all - there is no way the cashier has washed their hands between every transaction. Contactless payments is the way to go.
Yes, I do agree. However, after decades in payroll, I know there are entire cultures that are unbanked. They rely only on cash. Getting them onto a pay card was a nightmare. Who knew money laundering would be recommended?! Many local farmers, veggie stands are cash only. Laundry mats can be too altho they are getting better at electronic payments on their machines.

U.S. sees largest one-day increase in death toll since the outbreak began
Health departments in the United States on Monday reported the largest number of coronavirus-related deaths on any one day since the onset of the outbreak.

Agencies in 10 states reported at least one new fatality and four states — South Carolina, Indiana, Kentucky and Nevada — counted their first deaths, more evidence of the pandemic’s escalating effects across the country.

As of Monday evening, officials had reported 18 people dead, bringing the nationwide total to 85, according to a Washington Post tally.

A plurality of the newly reported deaths were found in Kings County, Wash., the epicenter of the U.S. outbreak, where the death toll is now 43 — far more than any other county or state has reported. Most of those deaths are connected to the Life Care Center nursing home in Kirkland.

It’s the 17th straight day a death has been reported somewhere in the United States. At first, the numbers increased slowly, by two or three people, but by Friday, agencies were reporting more than half a dozen per day.

A complete picture of fatal cases — how many people have died and the identities of the victims — is not yet possible. Testing has lagged, obscuring the number of positive coronavirus cases, and health departments are wary of releasing information about patients, because of privacy laws. But at least one thing is clear: The numbers will continue to rise.

At a news conference at the State Capitol on Monday in Indianapolis, Indiana State Health Commissioner Kris Box could have been speaking for leaders everywhere, saying, “We expect to see more of this across the state of Indiana in the coming days and weeks.””

Cash can be washed, if cash is needed for any reason, used a mild soap, dollar bills have fabric fibers in them, they can be laid flat to dry.

Oh gosh. On top of everything else, now we have to learn how to launder money too! :p:D

(That's a joke folks, in case you can't tell ;) )

Thanks @cass523! I have Nixle for alerts. I hope all these new limitations are sent out that way. So far they haven’t come to me in Oregon. Of course, then there are those who don’t have the technology. Here’s hoping.

I was replying to @Lilibet a question she asked about people receiving communications if they don't watch the news. I was not fast enough responding, a new thread opened.

Lilibet posted, "What I want to know is...how are these 15 day of limiting group sizes, etc. going to be communicated to the people who don’t watch the news or keep up on this like we do?"

This is a GREAT ALERT SYSTEM. Depending on how a person creates, or sets up their alerts, maybe they will get a notification regarding the 15 day limit group size.

People can sign up for text alerts, or email alerts using Nixle.com. Many years ago, a friend told me about Nixle, my family and friends have been receiving important alerts ever since.

"When seconds matter, notify citizens over multiple communication paths, including voice, sms, email and social media. Social integration capability allows for greater resident reach.

Nixle proactively manages incident communications before, during and after an event to keep residents safe and informed. Nixle keeps you up-to-date with relevant information from your local public safety departments & school."

Message regarding the Coronavirus, COVID-19 - and the Borough of Fair Haven Pandemic Plan

Borough of Fair Haven Residents:

The Fair Haven Office of Emergency Management (OEM), continues to actively monitor the evolving novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreaks in our area and we continue to work with County and State Health Departments as well as the Center for Disease Control (CDC). We are ensuring that our police and first responders are prepared and have a plan in place to continue basic operations, deliver essential services and respond to emergencies.

In our immediate area, a 27 year old Little Silver resident has tested presumptive positive for COVID 19. It is believed that this individual contracted the virus while attending the Biogen Conference in Boston MA in late February. This resident has been self-quarantined since March 1st and appears to be recovering at home."

I order on their app...its really easy.
Amazon prime lets me put food in my cart and then I go to check out, but there are no time windows available. Plan B would involve me dragging my *** into supermarket which hardly seems safe, considering last time I went they didn't even have the wipes for carts that they normally do.

How U.S. coronavirus testing stalled: Flawed tests, red tape and resistance to using the millions of tests produced by the WHO
March 16, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.

“By contrast, over the same critical period, U.S. efforts to distribute tests ground nearly to a halt, and the country’s inability to produce them left public health officials with limited means to determine where and how fast the virus was spreading. From mid-January until Feb. 28, fewer than 4,000 tests from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were used out of more 160,000 produced.

The United States’ struggles, in Landt’s view, stemmed from the fact the country took too long to use private companies to develop the tests. The coronavirus pandemic was too big and moving too fast for the CDC to develop its own tests in time, he said.

“There are 10 companies in the U.S. who could have developed the tests for them," Landt said. “Commercial companies will run to an opportunity like this.”

As the coronavirus continues to spread across the United States, causing more than 80 deaths and over 4,000 confirmed cases, the struggles that overwhelmed the nation’s testing are becoming clearer.”
