Governor Cuomo. MSNBC Live

It's a hard time. We are human beings who need connection. And now we can't hug, or kiss. And we have to stand 6 feet away from each other.

It's a frightening time for everyone.

BUT - it is "this much time" (holds up hand span). Maybe 3 months, maybe 6 months, maybe 9 months. And we will get through it.

This man has stepped up big time. IMHO!

I'm listening to a livestream of Governor Cuomo speaking right now. He is speaking about how this crisis is affecting us, in a comforting but realistic way.

In my opinion, Governor Cuomo has given us the most up-to-date and accurate information and I have great respect for him.

NY Scrambles to Find Hospital Beds to Avoid COVID-19 ‘Tragedy’
NY Governor warns that the state healthcare system is about to be overwhelmed

“New York is scrambling to increase its healthcare capacity before a "wave" of coronavirus patients breaks on the hospital system.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo addressed the desperate shortage in hospital beds Monday morning in a press conference. He called on the federal government to provide urgent assistance in increasing capacity, warning that the current trajectory of new cases shows the system is about to be overwhelmed.

"You'll have this influx you can't handle, you overwhelm the hospitals, you have people on gurneys in hallways -- that is what is going to happen now if we do nothing, and that, my friends, will be a tragedy," the governor said. The state of New York has 950 cases as of Monday and nearly 500 of those are in New York City.”

—-

Oh GOD, visions of Wuhan...the crowded packed packed hospital hallways and waiting rooms, dead bodies lying in the waiting room, medical workers losing it that they “can’t take it anymore”, lines around the hospitals...

Governor Cumo is trying his hardest to prepare and anticipate emergent medical needs.

Where's FEMA and CDC? Is each state on their own? I see several states combining efforts, is this our future?

Praying for much needed assistance for New York. If they don't get help, folks WILL start to leave the area and travel to other parts of the US. They will go to families and friends carrying the virus with them!!!

We should ALL be concerned and try to get help for them!!!

Moo....

Gah! Our power just went out. Planned maintenance but they didn't notify anyone! Power restore by 4pm?

Now I got to worry about our food in the freezer going bad!

Ugh.

Don’t open the freezer at all. Keep it cold.

(Hurricane tip)

I thought it was interesting to hear Cuomo talking about the Tristate approach, that basically he doesn’t want people traveling in between the other states, NJ & Conn, so they can play by a different set of rules.

Moo paraphrasing.

Can I ask where in NY are you? A drive-thru testing site is almost completed out in Jones Beach and another is being built on Staten Island. I hope that helps.

I love the way this man is stepping up. The way he lays out the facts, humanizes the crisis, continues to reach out to the federal government for assistance, proactively tries to get ahead of the issues, and in spite of the facts, still has a way to promote calm.

I need him every morning to stop my heart from racing.

Oh that's wonderful. I have some of that too. Adding melatonin to our daily regimen along with Airborne (mostly for the zinc), vitamin D and anti-malarial pills. We are taking these things all spread out over the day to reduce any small chance of interactions. Anyone have advice on when is best to take the melatonin? I'm thinking at night before bedtime?
Exactly... right before bedtime . I need to find the protocol he gave for taking zinc if infected. It’s different than preventative.

I’d not heard of him before all of this. Now I think I love him.
Tell me, as a Brit who doesn’t know about these things - is there any thought of a presidential run in his future? He’s so calm, so encouraging...

so my wife works for the local council government
they have been told from tomorrow 3pm they will be closed until april 16th
as far as i know its the first council in australia to do it
all the casual staff are really really worried

My DH is deputy mayor. The council office is closed, but business continues as normal by home offices, email, group online meetings, etc. Of course, all gatherings in the community are cancelled, but we are fortunate to be some of the last people in the world to be affected, so we had plenty of time to be prepared ... (Canada).

Insane that people were going down there for Spring Break, but I know so many people who were planning to go as of last week. Re my previous comment, these are the people who only pay attention when bars close and sports events are cancelled. They're the ones who put us all at risk.

Who knew one could lose weight on a potato diet.

I focused on potatoes as a main staple because they are cheap, filling, tasty, go a long way and you can do so much with them.

Yes carby carby, is not ideal for everyone.

My pants are literally falling down from eating one potato meal a day.

(Keep it clean folks)

ETA:
What a stark contrast to the huge weight gain the first week on the Covid diet, emotional eating with junk. My first thoughts went to get beer and ice cream. And trail mix.

Three weeks later I’m on a compleeeetely different path.

Again, I recommend more “meal based” and “nutrition based” food staples.

Think “sustenance” and meals.

Tasty Snacks did not last long at all in my house moo.

I agree, but I think denial is pretty powerful and some people’s brains continue to deny longer than others. No idea why, maybe protection from losing it completely? Too much too fast? Perhaps just selfish. I don’t know, but I’ve been slow to accept this, but at the same time I was social distancing. I agree people need to get on board, sooner than later to make this work.

JMO, some of it is people who aren't well informed or don't bother to educate themselves. The folks who only watch ESPN and don't bother to read a real news article. People who would never dream of clicking on a link in the "Health & Science" section of their news feed.
