Who would be the most likely to receive these checks?

"Everyone"? That's what they'll want us to think until end of April.

Didn't we do this a decade or so ago?

I have to say I am gob-smacked at the selfishness of the humans I share this country with. The hoarding of not just toilet paper, but all paper products and food is beyond jaw dropping. Publix was out of everything- meat, cream, milk, cheese, low on yogurt- paper products- it makes me angry it really does. The stores shelves are almost bare. Fortunately we are members at Costco- they don't have paper products either but they have lots of fresh food, meat, dairy, and frozen food, which we purchased. We didn't buy food for a month: just what we might need for a week or so.-- I had to order toilet paper on line and spent 88.00 (shipping is out of sight)-- found some napkins at CVS (will come in handy since towel paper is out as well); I guess you have to get to the store at 6 am if you want to find what you need, and even then i don't know if you can find it. It is selfish people who won't socially distance or stay away from large crowds (as in bars), that ruin it for everybody. Here in Florida by the way they announced that elderly people, over 65, can get tested if they have symptoms, even if they have not traveled to a foreign country -- that sure was welcome news. Also heard that here in Florida gun sales have gone up quite a bit in the past week or so--- hoarding guns too???

I am not on facebook but I am constantly on twitter or various news sites, I am not seeing a significant amount of naysayers - where is everyone seeing this. There will always be ignorance and people who believe they are invincible, but they are really irrelevant. It's what is being done that counts.

www.Coronavirus.gov is a good place to find what is relevant in real time. Also www.cdc.gov/coronavirus - New York Times has removed their paywall on any CV updates - updated continuously U.S. Coronavirus Map: Cases Now Reported in All 50 States

Stay safe please

I see it on the three local TV stations’ FB pages in comments after COVID-19 stories. It’s a good way to keep an eye on the pulse of the community.

NEBRASKA

Omaha public schools are closed and will remain so until further notice; parents and students will be informed about options for continuing lessons online, KETV reported today (March 17). For the next two weeks, public gatherings will be limited to no more than 10 people, though this will not apply to shopping malls, airports and grocery stores, according to KETV. Childcare facilities were also advised to reduce the number of class sizes, the DHHS says.

Nebraska's governor, Pete Ricketts, declared a state of emergency on Friday, March. 13, allowing the state to mobilize across agencies to fight the spread of the virus.

Health officials recently identified several events and locations near Omaha and in Sarpy County that may have exposed large numbers of people to COVID-19 infection from March 2 through March 12. This could potentially affect Nebraskans across the state, the DHHS reported.

People at those locations, which include several Walmarts, multiple bars, and two college basketball games, are advised to self-monitor for the onset of symptoms, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath and sore throat, according to the DHHS.

Eight people are being treated at the University of Nebraska Medical Center National Quarantine Unit. Several of those patients were passengers onboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship, one was allowed to go home after testing negative for the virus. One is a 16-year-old boy who was in serious condition.

"Queen Elizabeth's schedule has been modified due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The palace announced on Tuesday that although the queen will meet with officials this week as planned, "future audiences will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, in line with the appropriate advice."

Additionally, Queen Elizabeth will move to Windsor Castle for Easter on Thursday, one week earlier than planned, and it is not clear when she will return to Buckingham Palace.

The palace has also canceled several upcoming events, including the annual Maundy Service at St. George’s Chapel on April 9, three garden parties hosted by the queen in May, and two additional garden parties for the Not Forgotten Association and the National Trust."

How Queen Elizabeth, 93, has reacted to the coronavirus

What a shame. I hope she survives all this and thrives again when it's over. She's just become the 3rd or 4th longest reigning monarch in history (over 68 years in the job) and I will missing seeing her out and about in the newspapers. It's her 94th birthday in a few weeks, what a lady!

Isn't it illegal to take alcohol off the premises of the bar/restaurant? I used to bartend and we were taught it was illegal to allow a customer to walk out the door with a drink or even a purchased bottle. We were not allowed to sell by the bottle because we didnt have that kind of license. It was only a 'by the drink, in house customer' license.

Not in New Orleans at least not 25 years ago. I remember walking around with my 'Hurricane' in a styro foam cup thinking life was grand.

ITALY

As of 17 march in Figure 2 shows
the number of deaths by age group. Women who died after contracting COVID-19 infection
were older than men (median ages: women 83.7 - men 79.5
). #COVID19 Dr. Faris Durmo MD., BSc. on Twitter
I wonder if smoking have something to do with the fact that there are so many more men dying compared to women, especially among the 60+ and 70+? I would guess that it's (been) more common that men smoke than women did in Italy.

I live in a fairly small town. I cannot believe the people that are (a) acting ignorant of the whole thing or (b) think "this is just a bit extreme". I give up. Jmo

Same here in NE Kansas college town, just today Governor Laura Kelly closed all schools for the remainder of the year and so many think its an over reaction yet daughters very non essential retail garden store is business as usual with many older
shoppers acting clueless and has s not witnessed any social distancing and local bars preparing for weekend events as usual... grrrr!

The message coming out of EU is the sooner people self isolate, the fewer infections, fewer deaths, and sooner it will be over.

TENNESSEE

Governor Lee promised an extra 100 million dollars to local governments to help them cover costs for fighting the virus. In a news conference Tuesday, Lee also outlined ways the state will help working parents and the newly unemployed.

Governor Lee promised more help to families who need child care; offering 10 million in grants to help child care centers and a temporary suspension of day care inspections.

Tennessee will guaranty that day cares will continue to receive state subsidies even if their business declines, Lee said.

Workers who have lost jobs will find it easier to get unemployment benefits. Lee said quarantined workers will get unemployment benefits and the state will drop the rule requiring people to be looking for a job.

Lee said the state is suspending rules that forced the unemployed to wait three weeks to get the first payment.

Tennessee will increase the number of state workers allowed to work from home; some 11,000 were asked to work from home in the first wave. A second wave is expected shortly.

If you’ve tried to get through on the state’s new coronavirus hotline - help is on the way. The state is adding a second call center because the first one is answering about 900 calls a day - it state officials said hundreds more calls are on hold.

It is in Michigan unless you have a special license. That rule was waived by the governor when she said take out only. What's a beer without a burger??

In light of the current situation with Florida and its beaches....I'm considering the need to change my username! LOL
We have beaches in NJ too, though they are conglomerately referred to as the Shore...unless you already there and then it's the beach. Confusing if you don't live there or visit. I like your Username.

A lot of people just don’t get it! Here in Ohio, arguing with my 68 year old mother who just HAS to get her hair colored this week! So frustrating!

Could very well be. Smoking certainly doesn't help with a virus that attacks the lungs.

We have an American member who lives in Trieste in northern Italy with her husband and kids. I’m drawing a blank trying to think of her screen name. I haven’t seen her around lately. Does anyone know who I mean? IIRC She has a dog picture for her avatar, but I could be wrong. I hope she and her family are OK. *Wracking my brain*

Take a break....watch Keith Urban on Instagram at this link....

Nicole Kidman is husband Keith Urban’s number one fan! Keith Urban was supposed to play the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo but with growing coronavirus concerns the show was canceled — but that didn’t stop Urban from performing. The country star took to Instagram Monday night with a live-streamed concert and was joined by wife and Big Little Lies star Nicole Kidman.

“You’re up baby,” Nicole said as Urban began to play.

LOUISIANA

Governor John Bel Edwards announced on March 16 that, starting at midnight, all casinos, bars and movie theaters in the state will be closed to the public and restaurants will be limited to delivery, take out and drive-through orders only, according to KATC3. The situation will be reevaluated on April 6 and, if deemed appropriate, operations will resume as normal on April 13. Following CDC guidance, gatherings of 50 or more people will also be prohibited during this time.
