This is awesome. Most landlords need to make huge mortgage & insurance payments & will likely experience trouble collecting rents. The subsidized apartments will obviously receive their HUD portion but conventional landlords might be in deep trouble.
I wasn't going to say this but I'm going to. Our youngest called and told me their landlord called and said since they have been such great tenants and pay on time etc.., he was reducing their rent this month. He said the first of April, he was going to expect $1.00. One dollar off $800. He owns other properties and is doing the same for other tenants. Now that's a guy to be noted in my town. His kindness made me cry.

One possible worry down, on to the next 10 family members.

Two weeks ago, I started worrying about the appointments the dh had at the VA on Monday and today. I told him we may not be going because of the virus. I left it up to him because one is an important possible surgery, but he watches the news. The day before each appointment he cancelled. This morning we see that one of the 4 cases in our county is at the VA. They have known since Saturday and announced today! oy vey

Is it just me or does it seem like they are trickling out information and warnings out gradually everyday?
I feel like as the numbers start rising everyday the warnings/lockdowns are going to be in a more serious tone. Hopefully with repercussions for those that aren’t cooperating.
JMO.
Could be a planned roll out of information so has not to cause an uncontrolled panic. I saw a picture of a line at a gun shop.

Last post of the day but before I go up to bed I want to share a little human interest story as others here are doing a fine job keeping us up on the latest news.

As I mentioned earlier my friend in the health department had a bad day today. We have another friend who lost his wife last month to suicide. He's also having a bad day.

The two of them are getting together to talk and have a beer - via FaceTime. During this trying time when so many people are stuck alone I want to remind all of you that using technology can be a wonderful way to reduce the anxiety and help us to feel less alone. We need to stay connected to friends and family.

This makes my heart ache. Saying prayers for your friends, for you, and for all of us.

O/T a bit.

My Nana is on hospice. She’s about 3 months past the 6 month expiration date her doctor guesstimated. Her transition is developing quickly. Today I am so sad for her. She’s in her early 90’s and has ovarian cancer. She chose to forgo treatment and live the rest of her best life. She’s no longer accepting visitors and we had her over one night a week for dinner. It crushes me that this will be the ending to her story. Isolated and lonely.

Someone asked why there is no flour on the shelves.
I am guessing there will be lots of cookies baking with all the kids at home.
And just in case there is no bread to be found.
I stocked up a bit on the bread flour. I have a bread machine and I’m happy to make it for friends and family and coworkers that can’t find bread in the stores. I bought enough flour to make 30 loaves of bread. That should hopefully cover the 6 families that I have offered it to long enough until flour or bread is back in stock.

ETA: I also didn’t buy it all at once. I have bought my bags over the last month, one or two at a time. I’ve already had takers from the neighbors with two little girls.

I believe that after this all flattens out, that there will be sweeping health care reform, and probably a national health care system will be seen as imperative, part of a National Security plan.

We saw the "Department of Homeland Security" as a result of 9/11. I believe that we will see a "Department of Health and Pharmaceuticals" happen because of "COVID19". The fact that so many essential formularies for medicine are made in China, has been realized to be a huge security risk.

Ugh...I have chest pain anxiety. I know we are in for the long haul and I must figure out a way to handle this better. It is just so isolating.
I’ve also had anxiety and trouble sleeping the last couple of weeks. Your not alone the isolating feeling! :)

California Gov Gavin Newsom says schools will likely remain closed to the state's more than six million students for the rest of the school year due to the coronavirus

California Gov Gavin Newsom says schools will likely remain closed for rest of school year | Daily Mail Online

My district (Anaheim) just called with a recorded message regarding the governor's statement on school closure. The district said this is the first that they have heard this, and have not received any info from the state. As of this minute, the district has not changed the return date of March 30. Strange times, for sure.

Dang. I had no idea that was even a possibility at that age.

This is unfair and tragic. I’m very sorry. Are you able to speak to her on the phone?

Absolutely.
I stopped at an HEB in College Station and was astounded by how empty the shelves were. Normally I use fast food bathrooms but with them closed I had to change my MO. Figure I’m safer away from gas stations unless I need gas unless it’s a Bucees. I forgot to buy more kielbasa for backup batches of sauerkraut soup so I figured I would take a quick look to see if they had any. Frozen veggies gone, meat gone, including the sausage I was looking for. Shelves very picked over. I could see if you were waiting how it would incite a panic buy. It’s just not something we are use to seeing and your impulse is to buy, buy, buy what is left. I kept my freshly washed hands in my pockets and left without anything. I can understand a bit more now and I’m thankful I planned ahead and I’m able to help out where I can.
