If this doesnt convince you, nothing will...

Should we worry about eating at a restaurant?

“There is some evidence emerging of the potential for ‘fecal-oral’ transmission of the virus, which means it could be passed on by people who don’t wash their hands well after going to the bathroom. For this reason, some people might suggest sticking to cooked food, rather than uncooked food, for ordering out. Also super important that restaurant workers wash their hands. Restaurants should take extra steps and assure their customers. And people ordering should wash their hands well before eating.”

Even the gyms are still open...at least my dad's is anyway because he is STILL GOING. Don't get me started on that. I fear that whole area is going to get a rude awakening in the next couple of weeks. So happy you got a full refund!
I drove to pick my mother up today and bring her to my house to isolate. I noticed many gyms, stores and restaurants packed with people and full parking lots. (West Central Florida)

This may have been posted already, I'm so far behind

Classes at B.C. schools suspended indefinitely: Horgan

Most schools are already on spring break this week. Those that are not are being directed to start tomorrow, Fleming said.

Planning is underway to provide ongoing education even while classes are suspended, Fleming said. Every student will receive a final mark, those on track to move onto the next grade will, and every Grade 12 student eligible to graduate will, he said.

I knew it was coming, but I have no idea what I'm going to do with my daughter. She can't sit still at regular school, let alone online. And if they do cancel the rest of the year, it's going to be a rough one. She's already bored and school's only been out since Friday.

Agreed. I'm seeing my high risk friends, one on blood thinners, one with an autoimmune out and about. I don't get it. This isn't about how tough one can be, but it's about life and death.

I had a frank conversation with two high risk people today. After reiterating the CDC guidelines, I told them both, when you pass, I want you to pass peacefully. Not suffering from a painful, debilitating illness like covid-19. I think they were surprised I was so blunt, but this is not a game.

Until we are on lock down like Italy there are going to be people who will just not stop their fast pace run, run, run, lifestyle. I'm working on accepting they are going to run until they are stopped by a brick wall.

You never know which nugget of truth will get the "non believers" to open their minds to this reality. Try this one: If you die from this, you won't be getting the funeral of your dreams. If your loved ones end up in a hospital (and who knows what the word "hospital" will even mean in the coming weeks) you will not be able to comfort them, hold their hand, or host a "normal" funeral/memorial service for them. IMO

Coronavirus: Infected people without symptoms are driving epidemic’s fast spread – Daily News
People with mild or no symptoms of COVID-19 are the main drivers behind the spread of the coronavirus epidemic, according to an important new analysis of China’s outbreak released on Monday.

These so-called “stealth” transmissions underscore the importance of “social distancing” measures that are now being enacted in communities across the U.S. and Europe, the researchers said. Unrecognized infections can expose a far greater portion of the population to virus than would otherwise occur.

I'm in Santa Rosa County. Pensacola Beach has been crazy busy with Spring Breakers. A neighbor's daughter who is a server at one of the beach's hotspot restaurants (and it's large) said Sunday night was the busiest she's seen in two years of working there. She says they've been taking precautions, but it only takes one cough.

This is horrifying to me. Now that our local spring breakers are beginning to return home, our Mississippi cases have suddenly gone from 12 to 21 in about a day. They had been growing but it was very slowly and then we had this sudden surge.

Relieved to find my monthly Amazon Prime TP delivery on my porch, hidden, today!
I went for a walk today and the Amazon delivery vans were out and about.

Also I got a delivery from FedEx (my cat food order from Chewy.com). I talked to the delivery person from my screened in porch to say hello (made her jump as she didn't see me). She made a point to tell me the package had been wiped clean and also she was wearing gloves.

Direct from the delivery person's mouth.

No hotels, please. I've gotten sick from hotels and been extremely sick in a hotel, it's horrible. My husband actual flew in and drove me home, one time.

Suggestions and y'all know by now I'm quite brass...

Set up one bedroom. You can use a bedside commode or a toilet seat from Lowes and a large bucket. If you have only one bathroom DO NOT contaminate it. You will infect the caregiver and re-infect the patient.

If weather permits, use a window fan to "suck" the air to the outside. A box fan works well, in reverse mode.

Use all disposable dishes, utensils, etc.

Bag and contain all sheets, towels, linen in the sick bedroom. Don't try to wash if you are the only caregiver.

Take care of the caregiver!!! The caregiver must be protected. Use household cleaning gloves, drop in a bleach pan 5 mins, rinse hang to dry. Get plenty of rest, save your every and don't over do it. You can clean when all are recovered ... just seal off the bedroom...tape large plastic over the door facing and seal completely with tape.

Bleach is YOUR BEST FRIEND. Forget those fancy cleaners and use 1 part bleach to 2 parts water. This is and was the CDC recommendations for all Healthcare facilities for HIV. We KNOW,this works. You can put in spray bottles, labs, buckets used for toilet, and a must if doing laundry.

CDC website has lots of good information. The above have been used to care for sick or comprised patients during/after hurricanes.

Moo...

Great suggestions. Not to be oppositional at all, but I despair reading this list. We don’t have a spare room other than an “office.” We would have to get a fancy “tall” air mattress and neither the sick one or the well one could deal with sleeping on that. There is no way either one of us has the energy to handle all this work. So our only and best option is to stay home and not get sick.

That is absolutely crazy. Every thing is closed up in Montana. No gym, restaurants, bars, pubs, all closed except take out.

Predicting FL to be a train wreck.

The Mall of America announced that it is closing at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, and will remain closed through at least March 31 due to the fallout over COVID-19, and concerns about playing a role in the potential spreading of the virus.

It's spreading like wildfire because no one believed it was true when it started.
Even the WalMart manager/employee came to work sick and 911 had to be called when he dropped.
Dumb.
Should have stayed home!
So, everyone who ambushed WalMart to stock up may have been exposed and have spread it through the community already, most likely!
This was Sunday night @ 8:30

And no one informed the general public about that particular Walmart? :(

MASSACHUSETTS

BOSTON (CBS) — Carney Hospital in Boston will have the nation’s first dedicated care center to treat only coronavirus patients. Starting Tuesday the Dorchester facility run by Steward Health Care will be converted to include negative pressure wards and special equipment needed to treat critical cases.

There have been 197 positive cases of coronavirus reported in Massachusetts, where Steward has 10 hospitals. Those other hospitals will continue caring for patients as normal.

“By locating COVID-19 patients in a focused environment, Steward can better dedicate the necessary resources, equipment and expertise to provide COVID-19 patients focused care and the very best opportunity for a full recovery,” Steward said in a statement.

That’s so great. That will be a great teaching tool.
I’m working from home today and seeing dads walking their kids on the trail behind my house. It’s lovely. But I’m also thinking of the households in chaos. The children of parents who have to work. I can’t imagine the stress in these households.

We have a small business that is not retail oriented but e-commerce. We are still working as are our employees. But they are worried. Fortunately not affected by needing to stay home with kids. Uncharted territory.
Right !! My daughter is trying to still work at the office a few days, plus she has 2 elementary age school children at home trying to do class lessons online --she is trying to get to where she can work from home at least for next few weeks as there is no babysitter.
My other daughter is a teacher and is teaching remotely her classes so she is also helping others online with tutoring or just basic questions since they are minus a physical teacher to be able to ask.

On the flip side, I have a very stubborn 93 yr old M-I-L who is gallivanting all over town-she was at 3 places today YIKES
And she keeps wanting us to come over to visit and I am like, Um..nope-- you stay home for the next 15 days and we will see you after the 15th day.
Until then, every time she goes out of the house, I am restarting the 15 days countdown. Sheesh
It's all about working together during the temporary crisis.

Chicago woman in her 60s is Illinois’ first COVID-19 related death
Mar 17, 2020 / 03:20 PM CDT

“CHICAGO — Gov. JB Pritzker announced the first COVID-19 related death in Illinois.

"I'm deeply saddened to share the news that I have dreaded since the earliest days of this outbreak," Pritzker said at a news conference Tuesday.

Pritzker said the patient was a woman in her 60s with an underlying condition who resided in Chicago, and was diagnosed earlier this month. He said she was not a resident in a nursing home.”

Kroger said Tuesday they will join other supermarket chains in cutting back their hours in response to the coronavirus outbreak. Starting Tuesday, all stores in Georgia, eastern Alabama and South Carolina will only be open between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Kroger Atlanta Division now limiting store hours during coronavirus outbreak

I can understand some of the reasons but what I dont understand is assuming it used to be open for 24 hours in some of their stores, why do they need to stay closed for 11 full hours out of a day. That is going to put more hardship on those who need supplies and only have after work to try to get to a store.

Previously they resupplied while they were open and I dont see why that could not continue. The other reasons they give do not justify an 11 hour closure per day if it used to be 24 hours.

There goes my plan to try to shop at 2 AM.

“Additionally, Illinois health officials reported 55 new cases of COVID-19 in the state. In total, there are now 160 cases of COVID-19 in 15 Illinois counties. Cases have occurred in ages 9 to 91.

Among those new cases, Pritzker said testing revealed an outbreak among the residents and staff of a private long-term facility in DuPage County.”
