Very early Tuesday morning my cousin Jim passed away of the Coronavirus. He was in good health & had no underlying medical issues/diseases.

Additionally, the state that I live in, West Virginia announced Tuesday evening that they have their first positive case.
I'm terribly sorry for your loss!

How tragic. Was your uncle elderly, if I may ask?

I wish you guys could see the stuff my family is posting from Spain. How people are having dance parties with Music on individual balconies. (Just them blasting dance music to the neighborhood). Or the police car coming onto the street and imitating The religious processions we usually have this time of year, to the religious music- as if it’s dancing, in a way, much like the professional floats dance.

It’s very beautiful- the spirit of community there. Of everyone trying to boost each other’s morale.

My cousin posted a video of herself climbing to the roof top and yelling to the town “Animo, mi gente!” (Be strong, my people!”

We are fighting a microscopic war enemy.

We can win together.

Here’s something that sounds decidedly useful right now: A home test kit that anyone could use to see if they have the coronavirus. A kit that’s nearly as easy to use as a pregnancy test, and that would give results in half an hour.

It doesn’t exist yet, but serial biotech entrepreneur Jonathan Rothberg is working on it.
Full Page Reload

If he can get this to market,, I hope he can produce enough for everyone that wants to home test, cuz the way I understand it you can test negative but one trip out after a negative you can contract it. Moo based on Dr. Birx’s opinion

Wanted to stop by (again) and post this info for anyone who has an elderly or vulnerable family member or friend in the UK - from Thursday March 19th, Sainsbury’s will be reserving the first hour of trade for older/vulnerable customers. I could do a happy dance at this news, as it means my Dad, who lives in a remote area, will be able to walk up to his little supermarket and get some fresh air and some socially-distanced human contact.

The best thing would be one that could be used over and over again. LOL. but that's probably impossible....

Hundreds of thousands of people across New Jersey are suddenly without jobs, causing the state's unemployment insurance system to crash while small-business owners wonder whether they can recover from the economic impact of the coronavirus crisis and legislators consider relief.

Coronavirus: Unemployment system crashes as hundreds of thousands in NJ are without jobs
I posted upthread a link about Kentucky’s UI site crashing. I bet they all will, probably a daily thing.

I have been exposed by a young woman at work with all the symptoms. Received a text today.
I've been isolating away from my 80+ year-old parents since Thursday, so that is a plus.
We are now out on paid leave until April 6th.
I know that is just a number and we will be out waaaay longer than that.
Feeling good.
Walking the dog.
Keep the faith.

It occurs to me that those who are losing their jobs will also be losing their health insurance. hmm

I see this happening throughout our America.
Our little Bistro had to layoff 1/2 of our employees.
Complete crisis.
On our doorstep.
Good people. Who did nothing wrong.

Hi! Did you see my question to you? I asked if it bothers you that the news seems only focused on LA county, with the mayor doing daily briefings? I feel like OC is on its own, and all the great things LA is doing to help people ends at the LA/OC border. Doesn't OC have leaders, or are the cities on their own?

Agreed. The response has been ridiculously slow and unconcerned, IMO.

I’m afraid WMT and the other box stores will become the social arena for frazzled women with children, further endangering everyone.

I think you’re right. Friends of ours were out in Trader Joe’s tonight with their baby. Who had an earache and and has been sick. One of my family members saw them there.
