SWEDEN

Sweden joins other EU countries choosing to all but shut their borders. Swedish citizens will be allowed to travel home. Even countries closing borders are allowing access for goods trucks to travel in/out but Poland still seeing massive bottlenecks #coronavirus

I think the US should consider the rule Italy has in place, only one family member in the store at a time. Moo
I wonder if it might even be possible for the big box stores to lock up & only have pre ordered pick up. It would be so. much safer for everyone employed in the stores. They deserve to be safe.

I’ve been thinking about such things as well...

I was thinking about preordered/filled, boxed up, ready to go. Nobody goes in. Drive through...Other thoughts as well on this, as I have mentioned logistical concerns and mobilization previously.

Thanks, have sent to my parents in Siesta Key. 80 years old but were still going to a St. Patrick's Day dinner party in their 55+ community clubhouse last night  My 17-year-old daughter is also in FL for the week--the moment school was closed, her friend's family invited her to go with them to the beach, so she jumped on a plane and went  (She lives with her dad and he let her go.)
My parents are in their 90s in Leesburg FL and as of last weekend they were going to church, restaurants, and gatherings. I don't get it. I was begging them not to go. Hope they will be OK.

@margarita25 I filed for unemployment benefits yesterday for my Mom, who was laid off in Las Vegas. Everything is closed in Vegas, no one can "look for work". I was wondering about this question.

I worked at unemployment insurance for a few years, after 9/11, it was craziness. We had extensions at that time. Constant work. When Mnuchin states unemployment rates could be at 20%, that is absolutely optimistic.

YES, your mother is available for work. Unemployment doesn't ask if there are none available.

Most states require a person apply for two jobs per week. You can do this on line. Lets face no ones gonna call about interviews during the outbreak.

I think they will temporarily suspend this requirement. I think Virginia did back in 2009 when out unemployment was double digits.

Moo
When I was in Costco yesterday, there was a guy behind me in checking out had two girls around nine years of age in the grocery cart. I figured he thought it was better to corral them that way than have to keep track of how close they were getting to people. Children that age can not legally be left alone at home or in the car, so what was he supposed to do with them otherwise? With restricted grocery store hours, it is making it even harder for couples to shop for their families, and I can't even guess how single parents are managing.

Neighbors need/should work together. Many patents are partnering to with p/u groceries, or watch others kid from a 10 ft distance outside.

Got to haul freedom of movement public places to flatten the curve.

Hey guys...just checking in. First official day of my husband working from home...he went to work yesterday to gather his equipment and came home from work early yesterday to get it all set up. He is in the I.T. field so the transition for him shouldn't be too bad. For him. For me, I'm used to having the house all to myself so it's been different having both my daughter and my husband home with me. My daughter's on March Break for now...she has at least 2 weeks off school after that. The questions are starting, like "Are we still going to see the Easter Bunny at the mall?" and "Are we still going out for dinner and to see a movie on my birthday?" I don't think I was ready for that. It must be so hard for children. Thank goodness I'm somewhat prepared for the occasions and she won't end up with cheese slices in her Easter basket and cans of soup wrapped up for her birthday. I'm going to try to get used to the new normal and keep things fun for her as we adapt to this new way of life. My elderly mom emails me every night (we live in different provinces) and last night she wrote that she hopes I'm staying safe in quarantine and that she misses me. I'm not in quarantine, just social distancing...aka staying put until it's safe to do otherwise. Mom and Dad are constantly on my mind...they went shopping and couldn't find much. I wish I was there to fill up their cupboards and fridge so they would just stay put. I only get to see them once a year and I've had to cancel my trip. Up until now, I've been trying to focus on numbers, and statistics and graphs but this is too real for me right now. Sorry for venting, I just don't really have anywhere else to say this stuff. I hope you all are keeping safe, healthy, and strong.

I tried to PM you but apparently that's not allowed

I don't understand why that is happening. Three other people mentioned it to me. Does anyone know, are my settings off?

EDIT: Ok, I checked my privacy and seems like the "start conversations with you" was not checked. Oh goodness. Well, it's checked now so I am now available via PM. :D

I am not going to go to the store for anything, until this house is at the point of no food. Not, "Oh, I really need some parsley.". As of today, this house is home bound and pantry cooking only.

I believe in Virginia they were waiving the job search criteria. They want people to stay home so it would not be prudent to expect people to look for jobs!

Small rural communities don't always have online pickup.

But I agree, online delivery/pick up is the way to go.

Government is mulling re: sending $1,000 to Americans. Would this be tax free? How far would this go in your life? What about an average family?

What happens when this $1,000 runs out?

Congress has to get this right, they just have to. This is such an ungodly amount of money and once it is gone, it is gone. Who gets it? The people, the airlines, medical, etc, etc, etc ? How much for each? I remember how it feels to live paycheck to paycheck. As long as everything goes according to plan, basic living expenses are paid. But who could have come up with a scenario like this? I'm sure that many people are in a panic. Not being able to pay for a roof over their head, utilities, basics for their children, transportation, food, pet needs, etc. Please Congress, get this right.

SOUTH KOREA

1. South Korea reported 93 new #Covid19 cases yesterday & 3 new deaths. Their outbreak totals stand at 8413 cases & 84 deaths.
The amazing decline of their outbreak appears to have plateaued a bit, but they are clearly battling on. KCDC Helen Branswell on Twitter

China's top coronavirus expert says 'herd immunity' WILL NOT curb the pandemic because the disease is highly infectious and lethal

The Chinese senior medical adviser rebuked UK's approach to allow citizens to catch the virus to build up a national tolerance strong enough to stop the virus circulating.

'Herd immunity won't solve the problem,' Dr Zhong Nanshan said in a press conference today.

'We don't yet have the evidence to prove that if you are infected once, you would be immune for life.'

'Our next step is to develop effective vaccines, which requires global cooperation,' he added.

China's top coronavirus expert says 'herd immunity' WILL NOT curb the pandemic | Daily Mail Online

Typical Daily mail headline - TOTALLY inaccurate header. (If there is immunity, herd immunity DOES work - they just focused on the possibility of no immunity/no long lasting immunity... or virus mutations)

I'm guess tax payers, not sure about Social Securtiy, SSI and TANF.

We do not have any details, "they" are working on who qualifies and how to quickly distribute the funds.

No, exact dollar amount, yet. President says AT LEAST 1k. Don't know if per person or household.

Moo... watching for details diligently, @Henry2326 is on this for sure!!!!

So, one thing I’m keeping a very close eye on is WA. (As well as the other hotspots, NY, CA obviously...) but what I mean is, I consider “Seattle” and “Washington” like a “Wuhan” and “Hubei.”

Wuhan, Hubei was the epicenter. There were other areas for sure, Guangdong, etc. that had issues YES, however, what happened in that city ties to what Doc T talked about re: the importance of investing heavily in the epicenter (paraphrasing). We have a few “epicenters” here it seems, but Seattle is most certainly one moo. I believe I linked an earlier article on that, “Ground Zero” I think the article said.

I’m still behind on Monday’s Presser so not sure if any of the WHO docs referenced the US, but I certainly wonder if they’ll talk about the US today, perhaps via reporter question.

You don’t have to agree with me. I have previously linked numerous articles & many from our state website. Our public health has suggested kids go to the parks, ride bikes, walk, etc. And to avoid having children around their grandparents or anyone with compromised health. I think the schools are closed, as well as our local library to shelter people from kids. Moo based on reading thousands of articles.
Obviously animals need to eat. It’d be a shame for a herd of 1,000 to die, would it not? They are a food source.
Children are transmitting the virus.
I am not mom bashing, I’m all for mom shopping. I wish everyone would follow the guidelines.
To answer your question, I’m 100% serious. If people refuse to follow the established guidelines this will only propagate.
moo moo moo

You are forgetting that these parents may face charges and losing their children if they leave them home alone. Please, before you complain, check the law! Don't complain about the parents. Complain about the laws that force the parents to have their children accompany them while shopping.

According to the Illinois General Assembly, current state law says parents can face neglect charges for leaving children under the age of 14 "without supervision for an unreasonable period without regard for the mental or physical health, safety, or welfare of that minor.
