I wish they would give more details about all their statistics, like how many of those who tested positive even had symptoms?

Hah! The UK hasn’t (in theory) tested anyone with no symptoms from the get-go. And now they aren’t even testing people WITH symptoms unless they are hospitalised.

Holy smokes...I simply cannot keep up with this thread!! I got to page 2...yesterday. Then it was time for me to head out, and search for food. I am living with my 94 yr old father, as his now live in caregiver. Only a few months previously, Oct 30, 2019..I moved here to the Midwest from SC to be his live in caregiver. He is very limited in his sight..no more driving. Shouldn't be cooking, but especially at his age needs to have access to healthy nutrition, has of course some underlying conditions, and is now basically in an assisted living situation in his own home.

When I went out yesterday, I visited 4 of the main local grocery stores...going in, taking pics of the empty shelves, keeping the 6' distance, not touching anything. Then I ran by the gas station, to fill up the tank. $1.89 a gallon at this point. PPE used of course for fueling at the pump.

My last stop was the local walmart, 3 miles from home. I needed to refill my Rx, as well as pick up the groceries we get from there. Dad no longer can do the shopping anyway. He uses a walker, and has very limited mobility. And...again...being 94 he is now self isolating. Even though he still thinks he can go with me.

So, I left home at 11 am, and finally got back home at 3:30 or 4.
Every day now is new information. Good and bad.

Needless to say, I was worn out by the time I return home. I am also pushing 60 (58 today), and have hypertension as well as Type 2 Diabetes.

Thank goodness for the internet. We can get all information online, as long as there is access.

This is a New World we find ourselves in.

**sigh**

The WHO has changed its position on coronavirus and pets

I think the bottom line for me is that we just don't know anything for sure, they're all still learning about the virus as we go along and the knowledge is constantly evolving.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

What struck me about this one is that in the Key Points section at the top, they didn't state that companion animals can't get it - just that they don't have evidence that they spread it. Further down the article, they state: At this time, there is no evidence that companion animals, including pets, can spread COVID-19 or that they might be a source of infection in the United States - which to me isn't the same as saying they can't get it or be affected by/get sick from it.

Again, not really worried, just saying I wouldn't necessarily rule anything out 100% at this point.

So interesting, there was one journalist that wrote an opinion piece about how this could’ve been handled differently and I found it quite intriguing. His theory was that it would have been better to have the people who are at risk isolate themselves, rather than have our entire population turned upside down, the economy affected so greatly, etc.

of course optimally this “isolation” of high-risk people would’ve happened a month ago.... that and completely restricting travel. Travel has been the number one facilitator of spreading this virus.

Excellent idea, and thank you for posting it.

I'm old and have a compromised immune system. I've isolated myself for years, even from my beloved grandchildren when they even have a sniffle. People need to take responsibility for themselves, be they old, young, or single parents. Our life is often in our own hands. We need to use the brains God gave us. IMO

I've decided not to look at the tests and new cases figures any more. For every official statistic there must be loads more.

Awaiting the death numbers later, that has to be the best way of measuring what's going on. I think?

I hit my critical point last night and had a complete meltdown, bawling and squeaking out some truths to someone in my household.

I seriously don't know how you've all been holding it together as you're working so hard to keep the updates flowing.

I'm working extra hard today on being kind. I have to run out and work. I had ZERO empathy left in my reserves when I went to bed last night. My prayer as I went to sleep last night was ,"God, give me enough sleep to be a nice person again."

I *think* I'm a bit calmer. Thanks to all of you for keeping us up to date!

Oh believe me we’ve had our meltdowns. Well I can only speak for myself, but to give you an idea I’ve had chest pains, nausea, dizzy and fainting-like spells, sleepless nights, profuse sweats, frustration with those around me not taking it seriously, tears, fear for loved ones, financial concerns, all kinds of stuff.

We all have these different emotions at different times.

This we can share.

I’ve found its very important to take breaks and sleep. I’ve advised this a lot from the beginning, hence my “Siesta is now in effect” advisory. :)

It’s important to cry, do whatever you need to do. This is real life and death. We’ve never seen anything like this.

Words fail me but hopefully you get my drift that you are not alone in these regards.

Nice to see you btw, @CSIDreamer . Hang in there. It’s going to be a hard ride for all of us JMO. But we can be there for each other.

Our county and city declared a state of emergency Monday. This adds layers of protection/authority for the locality, including and not limited to the authority to, restricted access, restricted freedom of movement, closed any and all businesses, they can even sequester a business or building.

An article was posted on previous thread. The HHS of GA sequestered a Marriott Hotel in Atlanta, to set up I quarantine facility, to be fenced unsecured with Federal Marshals.

Several neighbors met last night, in a backyard to discuss if we had to defend/protect our neighborhood, especially if it hits LE departs. We've seen an increase in convenience store robberies, a person was robbed in their home, yesterday, had an unlocked front door and a guy walked in with a gun.

We've shared pass codes to our outside camera systems. We're keeping our car remotes at arms reach, will set off immediately for neighbor assistance, and if need, we will take turns patrolling our street, but most of it's covered by video cameras. Several neighbors have drones, never would have thought of using those. OMG, the ideas that came up, I felt like a prepper for the end of time. I slept really well last night and think we can survive this as a team. This is only in a most extreme situation, but we got this!!!

Thanking GOD for good neighbors!!!! Been here 42 years, neighborhood my husband grew up in, and lots of the "kid's" moved back when their parents died. We are a tight group.

Moo...
There will always be the naysayer or the ‘rules don’t apply to me’, the rest of us concerned about our world must step up & report when we see violations.
Beginning Friday, as I previously posted, ALL daycares here MUST close indefinitely.
Even the DMV closed and if you need to renew you have a three month grace extension—do not come to DMV, no face to face contact with gov’t offices.
Honestly, idk what more can be done to make people grasp the severity of this situation.

MICHIGAN (Metro Detroit)

Drivers line up for coronavirus (COVID-19) drive-thru testing at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Drivers were lined up Wednesday morning for drive-thru coronavirus (COVID-19) testing outside Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.

Beaumont Health started processing a limited number of COVID-19 tests in its own lab earlier this week. By doing this, doctors will be able to get results in hours instead of days.

For drive-thru testing, people don’t have to get out of their vehicles...

NY is starting to look and sound like our folks trapped on the cruise ship.

Its about choices, tuff choices....
In what way? I'm in Manhattan and don't feel trapped like those poor people on cruise ships. I took a beautiful walk (alone, with neighbor's dog while he works) this morning. Thing are DEFINITELY very different - things shut down, people keeping social distance, etc. - but not seeing the analogy with being stuck on a cruise ship.

I feel very lucky compared to those people.

all over Australia because they can't keep up with whats happening in store which means they can not fulfill orders for online orders as orders from our grocery super markets are filled from your local store and only some of the orders are filled by a warehouse but even the warehouse is too busy right now just trying to keep stock on shelves each day

yesterday i drove past a supermarket near me at 5am to drop off my wife and i saw 6 semi trailers waiting to unload and this is not normal, usually they get 1 truck every 3 days and urgent stock is delivered by smaller trucks daily
I can tell you that food and essential grocery items are moving across the country via truck.
We haul a lot of refrigerated freight, produce , food service items and beef and turkey.
Orders have slowed down but it's still moving. If that changes I will absolutely keep you posted. Amazon is going strong in case you can't find what you need.
Prayers for All ! Be Well :-)

Our local DMV is still open, but you have to make reservations now. My license will expire soon....but I'm just letting it go until we get the all clear to be in public places again. I'm expecting our DMV to close soon and am actually surprised it's still open.

IMO, I want to shop and pick out my groceries myself. I buy fresh, and don't want the old, wilted, brown etc produce. Or the next day expired date on dairy products, meat and even salad dressing. I use to just pick from the shelf until I realized that the salad dressing I bought last month was already expired. Big box stores are notorious about having close to expire dates.

MOO

Maybe starvation can induce you to lower your expectations?

I'm joking, but maybe this isn't the time to be overly picky about your produce. It is what it is.
