Shut what down? The White House or the virus or what?

Tia.

I listened to the Ackerman interview. It was terrifying.

He means shut down the entire nation for a month.

I saw that last night, cute!! I was going to try to find it to post.
I think it's very effective. The message needs to be repeated by many people, imo, because of course grandparents want to see their grandkids. We need to make it normal to say "not now."

The person that tested positive in the county where I work works on a Military Base in the Pharmacy for the Army Hospital.
Yikes.

I agree. Rationing/limits on food purchases happened during wartimes in America. This is not a communist concept it's a logical plan.

When I was a young child I remember very well sitting on an empty shelf while my grandmother waited in line for someone to fill her grocery "coupons". There was rationing and it wasn't easy, but most people understood it was necessary.

So anyway
It finally got to coastal Louisiana. Bars & restaurants delivery or take-out only... but, has anyone else noted long lines at the banks/ATMs?

Saw an article on CNN, telling people that their money is safe, and that the world runs on debit and Venmo accounts.

People are scared.

Thanks for clarifying. Has NY closed schools and restricted resturants and bars to take out only and less than 10 people per location?

I'm really confused on the compliance and support of the CDC/White House. 15 day program.

Thanks :)
NYC and NY state...Yes to school closings. Yes to bars and restaurants closing with restrictions of takeout only, and 50 was the last number I heard for gatherings, not 10.

May have changed. @Inthedetails ??

ETA NJ, CT & PA in complete agreement as a unit.

Hopelessly behind reading. Am just now able to sit down for a bit. Major scrambling this morning. I got notification yesterday that my dog food order from Amazon had shipped. So relieved. I have two Labs and I will be out of food tomorrow (thought I had more...don't ask...I should have been more vigilant). Overnight I got another notification from the 3rd party seller that the packaging had been damaged and they are cancelling the order.

Chewy.com sold out of the kind my dogs eat. I hate to switch brands...makes their stomachs upset.

Grocery delivery isn't available where I live.

Tried to make an account at the big city grocery store so I could order dog food and a few groceries for curbside pickup. Website keeps crashing on me.

Tried at a smaller store in a different town. Supposedly they have my dog food etc. I got a confirmation to pick up this afternoon.

I hate hate hate to go out, but, hopefully I can get all of this and then be done. The plus side is hopefully they have eggs. I ordered two cartons--my neighbors can't find any so I'll drop them off on my way home. Fingers crossed.

I feel the same way and faced the same obstacles on Monday. I spent 8 hours shopping: 4 of those hours spent driving.

It may not be true of everywhere, but here’s what I found on the north-west shore of Nova Scotia:

-the dollar store had my cat’s brand of food and kitty litter (no kitty litter found in 4 other stores)

-the largest dollar store didn’t have tp, but did have boxed tissues, wet wipes, and paper towels. They also had powdered hot and cold drink mixes.

-I went to Michaels craft store and found they sell and have hand sanitizer in stock (!!)

-check the organic and international sections of the more expensive grocery stores. I found eggs, flour, mystery soups, and mystery breads while the rest of the ‘common’ areas of the store had none of those items.

-check the damaged/reduced section.

-go shopping very early in the day

I know I’m preaching to the choir, but be sure to thank the grocery store staff, especially those loading the shelves. A lot of them are students, and it’s back-breaking, exhausting work.

I found in the lower priced stores, the customers were politely and efficiently shopping, not bothering the staff with questions.

In the high-priced grocery stores, I found people with empty carts chatting in groups, people waiting in the back of the store, asking staff to check for very specific brands of items, and other poor pandemic shopping etiquette.

^^I mean no offence to anyone, but I’ve noticed this pattern for the last few weeks.

I think it's important to get some cash out if you can. Many who can't get out will need someone else to pick up food, medicine and other necessities for them. They can't count on that person to pay for it JMO.

As of 2:00 PM (17 minutes ago), PEI liquor and cannabis stores will be closed. This doesn't affect me at all (it's been 13 years, 5 months, and 3 days since my last drink and if the stress of this hasn't caused me to drink yet I'm going to be okay) but I'm so worried about those who are dependent on alcohol...this is going to be so hard on them. And nothing has been said yet about those who use cannabis for health purposes.

I'm 13 years out, but this thought also occurred to me. I never realized that heavy drinkers and those who drink daily can have health threatening reactions when quitting abruptly. Seizures are a big problem.

From my personal experience.. I know people who were very high functioning and who had no idea of the acute danger. Imo

In China, citizens in various neighborhoods blocked streets so no one could get in (or out).

In Chinese cities, each block has a committee and leader that keeps charge of that area and works for the communist party. It is their job to report anything they determine is wrong-doing to the authorities. They also can organize a city block to keep people out. So social control in Chinese cities - same in rural communities - is a way of life since Chairman Mao - and everyone is used to it and it is highly organized.

Edited to correct typo

I haven't seen any reliable information that the WHO test (or protocol) produced 40 or 47 percent false positives.
This morning on MSNBC the governor of Michigan, Gretchen Witmer said that she is trying to get the WHO tests for her own state of Michigan, since they are not getting testing kits from the US Government.

So I think the article quoted above has some inconsistencies as to whether or not there were tests shipped by WHO, and not just a protocol test design that countries could adopt and make on their own.
BBM
"Testing began at the CDC, and on February 5, the agency announced it would begin shipping test kits to public health labs around the country. Just a day later, the World Health Organization said it had already shipped 250,000 tests to more than 70 laboratories around the world.

As WHO shipped hundreds of thousands of tests, broader US testing struggled to begin. Days after CDC's tests shipped, some labs reported that the test kits were not working as expected, which eventually required tests be re-manufactured."

Missing in that article is the reason our own CDC developed faulty tests.

But thanks for posting the article, it's very hard to get the truth.

The WHO test kits are not approved by the FDA for use in the US. They refused to send the supporting information for approval.
