WA State death count at 69 -- highest in the US

Coronavirus spread in a Kirkland nursing home for weeks, while response stalled

Shape, 81, had moved into Kirkland’s Life Care Center on Feb. 26 for short-term care following time in the hospital for blood-clot surgery. It was terrible timing: that same day, Life Care said it notified state officials of an outbreak of severe respiratory illness, which staff had noticed was spreading for weeks.

But the outbreak, which turned out to be COVID-19, may have been circulating in the facility much longer. A Life Care official said staff noticed a respiratory outbreak by Feb. 10, and interviews and a review of 911 call logs obtained by The Seattle Times show it could have appeared even sooner.

Exacerbating the problem: Confusion inside the nursing home and among state health officials over who was responsible for testing sick patients allowed the disease to continue spreading, turning Life Care into the nation’s largest source of COVID-19 fatalities.

Last month, there were 120 residents at Life Care. As of Wednesday, at least 81 have tested positive for the coronavirus and of those, 34 have died, as well as a visitor. About a fourth of the coronavirus fatalities in the U.S. have been linked to the nursing home, according to state and federal data.

Does she not have a dog? Lol.
I don’t work but I pretend I do, lol. I get up and do my hair & act like I have places to go & people to see. Otherwise, I’m not motivated to do a thing. I’ve practiced this habit for years. Plus, if anyone drops by, I’m ready!
My friend finally found the shade of lipstick she's been looking for, and now she has no place to wear it (LOL).

I said this a couple days ago! I wish our stores would. Soon, I’m afraid they will have no one able or willing to work. I fear for everyone working. Not only from the virus aspect, I fear some nut with a gun will go postal when he can’t buy TP.
OMG, I never thought of that possibility.

True colors really are apparent, aren't they, in a crisis.

Some panic, some fight, some cooperate, some roll up their sleeves and pitch in, some put their heads down and work, some bear the burdens, some complain, some lose their sense of humor, some lash out, some spread fear, etc.

Time to decide how to personally respond, even if it's just your attitude.

And vacuum cleaner bags. That never occurred to me!
I know! Makes sense, though. But don’t stop reading there - the article eventually explains why pillow cases and cotton t shirts are best overall (breathability vs effectiveness)! I almost did not scroll down further to read that.

Testing update: DH reached an actual person on the phone today who told him his CoV19 test results were still not in and that they would take 5-7 business days to complete. OMG! Does this mean the testing numbers we are seeing are behind the actual cases tested by an entire week? It shouldn't take that long to test! And those are just the people who are able to convince of the need for a test by having symptoms and testing negative for everything else first! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!:eek:o_O:(

West Texas - Same shortages in stores. People all over town driving, trying to shop, and working. Nearly all people being friendly to each other, but lots of serious looking faces, when not engaged in talking.... My family and I are fed and well..... A big "Thank You" to nearly all of the posters on this thread. Your Media Links and reports on "what it is like in your area" are very much appreciated by me...... Take care of yourself and your loved ones. Be kind to strangers..........moo

Better than authorities claiming people in the population shouldn't be wearing masks because masks don't work. I don't appreciate being lied too.
Anybody know what specific materials are needed? As soon as the instructions get released they’ll be a run on those too because people will want to make them for themselves. Might as well get ahead of it if we can.

I can see from traffic flow in my area people are angry.
So many can’t cope with change.
Univ of KY basketball is huge here, people are still livid over SEC cancellation, and this new March Madness.
What kills me is how many feel “exempt” from guidelines/rules. After hair salons were ordered closed, several contacted our governor asking if they can remain open if only one client is in the salon at a time or if doing a “special” customer. WTH?

I posted a link to a study that says cotton materials could be used to make homemade masks (cotton t-shirts and cotton pillowcases). Most of us already presumably have some cotton t-shirts we could use.
