That’s what bothers me. We knew the Chinese government was lying, the world knew they were lying, and we lost crucial time.

I am terrified this is going to happen to me. I was diagnosed with breast cancer last August. I’ve gone through chemo and a double mastectomy, and am supposed to start radiation in a couple of weeks. I still have teens at home.

It’s up to you to protect yourself. You can’t allow anyone around you who has exposed themselves to others. Be safe!

Dear TristanP, please put yourself first and do as MassGuy said and don't let yourself be exposed. You've been through enough. No hugging your teens. Make them clean surfaces and help you stay safe. Stay in your room if you need to when others are around. Maybe block off part of your house. Hope you don't have to share a bathroom.

Do anything and everything to protect yourself.

My city is actually offering to supply rooms for people who need to isolate even from their family. Please do everything you can and know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

“New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday that President Trump agreed to dispatch a Navy hospital ship to the New York City Harbor to “add capacity” for those who need to be admitted due to complications of coronavirus.

Cuomo has warned that the virus puts stress on New York state hospitals, and that the state’s hospital system only has 53,000 beds. For days, he has weighed how to create additional space for the expected influx of patients in the coming days and weeks due to the virus.

Cuomo, during a press conference Wednesday, said that the president agreed to dispatch the USNS Comfort hospital ship, which the Pentagon offered as part of the domestic response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The USNS Comfort has 1,000 beds and is run by military personnel, according to the U.S. Naval Institute.

“The president will dispatch it immediately,” Cuomo said, noting the ship will remain in New York City harbor.

Cuomo added that New York City is the "natural" place for the ship to dock, noting the "density" of the population.”

It wasn’t so much that, but a realization of what it would mean. The Chinese knew what the impact would be (financially), and lied, while miscalculating what would happen.

When this first broke, I think everyone knew there was a coverup going on. But the problem with a coverup is that it masks the extent of the problem.

And the extent of the problem was worse than what most people could imagine.

So they didn’t go ahead and cover up a global catastrophe, they went ahead and covered up something short of that, hoping it didn’t escalate.

It did. And now it’s a global catastrophe that we’ll tell our kids and grandkids about.

N.J. family loses 3rd member to coronavirus as devastation continues

The mother of the New Jersey family that has already lost two members to the coronavirus has died after being infected with COVID-19.

Grace Fusco, 73, of Freehold, died Wednesday night at CentraState Medical Center following the deaths of two of her children — Carmine Fusco on Wednesday morning and Rita Fusco-Jackson last week, Roseann Paradiso Fodera, a cousin and the lawyer representing the Fusco family, told NJ Advance Media.

Several other Fusco family members remain hospitalized with COVID-19. Grace’s daughter, Elizabeth Fusco, and other members of the Fusco family remain in quarantine.

Nineteen members of the family, including spouses and children, have also been tested, Elizabeth Fusco, a sibling who is not hospitalized, said Tuesday.

The family “implores” officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health to perform an autopsy to learn more about how the virus killed Fusco-Jackson, Paradiso Fodera said.

Ha! Good ole Charlie goes with the wind, so we’ll see. I think he’ll hold off sheltering in place until we see the numbers really start to jump (NY has seen an explosion and is about there).

In my neck of the woods (central Mass), everyone I know is doing this social isolation thing. Hopefully it slows the progression down to where there is no need to go to extremes. I guess we might have to do this sort of thing a few times over the coming months.

It’s all about slowing the progression and giving the medical community time to catch up.

That’s what we’re thinking... he’ll see the numbers jump & before we know it we’ll all be housebound. To be honest it’s the only way to stop it. I have to say I’ve been shocked & proud seeing our country so proactive lately!

Ah, I’m central as well... the folks who don’t want anymore national televised funerals for heroes each December! Everyone I know takes it very seriously however they’re also firefighters, ER nurses, medics, even meals-on-wheels drivers... we are trying so hard to be careful but they can’t not work.

We are doing limited contact... I’m just on the fence and really not wanting to hear the truth or even figure out how to handle it. I have a medical background & I don’t panic but I’m watching our local numbers skyrocket.

Yes... no shortage but the folks in my town just don’t seem to get it. I gave away most of my toilet paper to people who couldn’t go get it on there own and I don’t regret it but after a few fruitless stops today I may have to get very savvy or go on a road trip. Amazon had been selling out on the products that everyone is after.

Do you have a timeframe prediction? I’m thinking it’ll be summer before we start to see positive things. I worry Baker loves to go to the extremes... I can picture him ordering sheltering in place. Which is probably what we need!

Louisiana's Senator Kennedy on PBS News says the medical field doesn't have a cure right now, so that means you and I have more impact on not spreading the virus by staying home isolated and not carrying it to someone or being exposed ourselves. Flattening the curve. After five days inside I was starting to feel useless, but no, he said just sitting home I'm doing my part and I have an impact.

“Chicago has joined a growing list of cities establishing COVID-19 relief funds to deploy immediate resources to the families and neighborhoods hit hardest by the economic fallout of the new coronavirus.

On Tuesday, the Chicago Community Trust and United Way of Metro Chicago announced the launch of the Chicago Community COVID-19 Response Fund, a place where individuals and corporations can donate money to be pooled and distributed to local nonprofits with experience in providing food, housing, health care, child care and other crucial assistance to residents in need.

“This is both a short-term and a long-term crisis,” Helene Gayle, president and CEO of the Chicago Community Trust, told me Wednesday. “We want to make sure we can get resources out to people immediately and also think about the mid- to long-term impact on families who are missing paychecks or have children out of school without child care; on our homeless population; on the elderly population who can’t get out to get food; on the most vulnerable, who can’t withstand the shock of missing a paycheck.”

I don’t want to be the voice of doom but I think we are all in for a really rough time of it till there is a vaccine. A vaccine is 12-18 months away because it has to be tested fully to know it is safe.

I have actually been heartened to read about the potential for antivirals or stem cells or ? to curb the worst of symptoms and possibly prevent some deaths. I am hopeful that something in this vein is able to be studied and brought out full force within 6 months - particularly if it is already a known solution used for other issues previously (and hence easier to prove safe once shown to be effective). So I think there is potential to believe this will not be as stark a situation for quite that long...we hope! If we can thwart the worst of this virus, things would look much less bleak.
