Latest case figures and fatalities in Germany

The number of confirmed cases in Germany has risen to 12,853, with the number of deaths reaching 34.

Politicians, police and prominent figures appealed to Germans to ‘stay at home’, or risk the introduction of curfews as in France, amid widespread evidence that many people are still not sufficiently reducing their movements to halt the spread of coronavirus.

Good morning all.

One of my daughters is a student at CCU, Coastal, Conway-Horry county so I am including this to date. She is off campus with 3 roommates.

This is surreal- it isn't any easier to accept once it has sunk in. It is actually more difficult if I may say so. You know what and who to believe after following breakout from China day 1.

Five cases of the coronavirus, or COVID-19, are confirmed in Horry County, health officials say.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control confirmed the fifth caseWednesday night. Four additional cases were confirmed earlier in the week, with the first confirmed case in Horry County announced Saturday night.

There have been no deaths related to the virus in Horry County as of Thursday morning.

Any interventions we make today will not show up in our data for 1-2 weeks. The time it takes to show symptoms after being infected is about 5 days, and then it takes a few more days to get diagnosed and counted. For a while it will feel like nothing is working but it takes time.

On Tuesday, my husband asked for and got permission to work from home. By the end of the day, the company had ordered all to work from home and to not enter the building again without permission. When he went in to retrieve some equipment, there was only one entrance open and he had to sign in. The next day we got word of a positive case in that county. I’m hoping it was not a co-worker.

I’ve read a smoker is more vulnerable. I wonder if poor lung function is a contributing factor OR is the dirty hand to mouth contact to blame. No smoker I know washes his hands each time he wants to light up.
As I attempted to doze off, I thought of all the nasty habits people have that might put them at risk. Little things—we’ve all seen busboys return unused individual cracker & condiment packages to the bin, diners opening condiments packs with their teeth, gas station clerks here are great for constantly making coffee without washing their hands. Most have to wait on customers, handle money and clean bathrooms, take out trash, etc. I know the station I normally buy gas & lottery has one employee on duty at a time. I can honestly say, I’ve never seen her wash her hands.......we go to concerts, rodeos, festivals & the food booths/trucks are SRO, & people having few places to wash their hands are buying food/using squeeze bottle condiments, leaving stubborn germs behind. Filthy hand to mustard bottle to hot dog to mouth to what? Death?
As a society, we need to be much more conscious about what we touch, imo. I could not eat finger foods if I only used hand sanitizer, I’m a person that must use soap & water. How insane is it to think of how many things we touch in the course of a day, going from one to the next?
The “hands off face” is incredibly hard to do if one has long hair, imo. Especially on windy days. I’ve started clipping mine up more. Of course I’m not able to go out do it matters none what my hair looks like, my animals love me just the same, lol.
