There were a lot of problems at the polls, according to the local news. And I know a lot of people chose to stay home. All simply MOO.
I can’t believe all states are not under the simple and wonderful mail in or drop box method in states like CO. Everyone gets their ballots in the mail and can mail them in or drop them in a convenient drive up drop box over a period of time. So many more people would vote and it would not take time away from work, etc. All should quickly move to this method before November for sure IMO - this may not be over by then. Plus, no more reports of hours long lines!

Soldiers can apply for hardship, isolation allowance if impacted by stop-move policy
1 hour ago

“Army personnel can apply for hardship pay and isolation allowances if they’ve been impacted by the Pentagon’s halt on permanent change of station movesduring the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, service leaders said Thursday during a call with reporters.

If a soldier and their family isn’t interested in moving any longer, they can also apply through Human Resources Command to remain in place.

“The Army proactively stopped movement to protect our soldiers, preserve our capability and protect our nation,” said Lt. Gen. Duane A. Gamble, the Army’s deputy chief of staff G-4. “The stop-movement allows for very few and very specific exemptions for personnel movement that are currently being adjudicated at a very high level.””

A friend told me her neighbor is going to FL because our tanning salons were ordered closed. The woman is always very tan & unwilling to lose her color. Idk if hotel pools are open or not. I also don’t know about hotels on private beaches.

Well at least her priorities are pretty clear----- SMH

I have already planned to "pay it forward" when I finally go for a haircut later this month. My stylist has many senior clients who are probably not coming in regularly at this time. I will write her a nice check to help her through this difficult time. DH and I went to the same salon for more than 25 years before it closed more than a year ago. Four of the long-time stylists opened their own boutique salon, so we stayed with one of the stylists that we've seen for more than 15 years.

Yay you! You are awesome in so many ways.

Just as their current claim of no new cases is suspect.
I have to wonder if China actually reported all COVID deaths. We have always been suspect of their numbers.

OKLAHOMA

And Oklahoma makes it 50 states simultaneously in declared states of emergency in response to COVID. Unparalleled responses to a public health threat! James G Hodge Jr on Twitter

I am sure there are. I will try and finds some examples of people stepping up to there plate.

here is one example:

US military to make labs available to test civilians for coronavirus and donate millions of medical masks to HHS amid pandemic

Washington (CNN)Defense Secretary Mark Esper announced Tuesday the department will make 14 certified coronavirus testing labs available to test civilians and donate five million medical masks to the Department of Health and Human Services for distribution as hospitals deal with an influx of patients during the pandemic.

Esper said at a briefing that of the five million N95 masks -- which health care workers wear to treat infectious diseases -- one million will be made available "immediately." He also said the department is prepared to distribute up to 2,000 ventilators "as needed."
Two additional coronavirus testing labs would soon be offered by the department, Esper said.
In addition to the masks, ventilators and testing labs, Esper said the department is "considering activating National Guard and reserve units to assist states with planning, logistics, and medical support as needed."

I hope some of those supplies make it out west - we sure do need them (Oregon in particular needs them).

There are now six people in my immediate family who were laid off this week.

Mama can't cover this much!

:Waves:

Been on the phone all morning with various friends going through the same thing.

That is heartbreaking! I pray things will work out for you guys.

It will all work out. But I know that 20% unemployment was by far a pipe dream.

Who ever saw jobs for entire industries wiped away in a day?
1. Retail sales
2. Entertainment
3. Hospitality
4. Travel
5. Restaurant
6. Education

Those are six, entirely different industries, wiped away this week. It is such a breakdown of the economy.
Those are the six areas in my family that were laid off this week.

Sailor at Naval Station Mayport tests positive for COVID-19
Updated: March 18, 2020 - 9:48 PM

“The Sailor was assigned to the Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron.

The Navy said: “Military health professionals are in the process of conducting a thorough contact investigation to determine whether any other personnel may have been in close contact and possibly exposed. At this time there is no indication the Sailor had contact with any other members of the squadron however, depending on the results of that investigation, additional precautionary measures may be taken.”

I just wanted to say that it's a very nice thing (if you can afford it) to send a little cash in the direction of your favorite hairdresser or nail artist. My daughter and I are going to continue our monthly budgeted amount at our nail salon.

If you expect to continue to have services such as massage, you can maybe help your masseuse out with a little donation at this time. I figure if I can afford the luxury of nails once a month, I can afford to help out.

Me too!

I want to support them. I really need them!

Police in Wuhan apologise to whistleblower’s family

Kerry Allen
BBC Monitoring, Chinese Media Analyst

Police in the Chinese city of Wuhan have apologised for punishing the doctor who tried to warn people about Covid-19 before perishing himself.

Back in December 2019, Dr Li Wenliang sent social media messages to his colleagues in Wuhan, warning of the mysterious viral illness.

He was subsequently interrogated by the police for “rumour-mongering” in early January, and made to sign a letter promising that he wouldn’t do this again or would face prosecution.

Today, the police retracted a letter they initially wrote criticising Dr Li and also apologised to Dr Li’s family.

In the letter, Dr Li was accused of "making false comments" that had "severely disturbed the social order".

Li Wenliang contracted the virus in January while treating his patients and passed away at the age of 34 in early February. His death sparked nationwide anger and led to criticisms that China's leadership had downplayed the severity of the virus - and initially tried to keep it secret.

FLORIDA
Breaking- 19 Care Facilities have confirmed or
suspected Coronavirus cases.

Gov. DeSantis says 'venture capitalists' buying
up supplies of swabs to resell for profit. this
makes it difficult for states to get supplies quickly. Fl. is getting "dribs and drabs" of swabs
from previous order.

I heard the FL governor talking about it and he doesn't even know where some are going! He said the tracking was not efficient and maybe they will go to some department or some hospital.... I couldn't believe it.

Just as their current claim of no new cases is suspect.
I actually believe the numbers.....similar to the issues in the rest of the world, we are finding that its difficult to track and get tests to people. Imagine what they went through......we should have known better....they didn't have a clue what was happening. I admire them tremendously. My niece is in China.....so I know for a fact that mainland china is out of lockdown and moving on with their lives......meanwhile in the US.....

What a waste of tests.....meanwhile critical patients dont have test.....anc they may catch it tomorrow.

Houston residents are waiting in a line more than a mile long as drive-thru testing for the new coronavirus begins. Officials warn there aren't enough kits or protective gear to meet demand. Houston pleads for more tests, gear as cars pack hospital

Wondering if ppl are buying extra freezers?

I feel fortunate to have a yard big enough o plant veggies. And also because of location, close to bay/ocean water, have friends that have property on bay, fishing, crabbing and oysters which we have here now. Meat is the concern, shouldn’t have a problem with that at this time, hubby is hunter so that helps.

Hoping ppl on ss are included in the pay out.

'We can beat coronavirus in 12 weeks': Boris Johnson plans to buy 'hundreds of thousands' of antibody kits - which can tell if anyone has EVER had the killer disease - to 'uncloak the invisible enemy'

Boris Johnson says Britain can 'turn the tide' on coronavirus within 12 weeks | Daily Mail Online

I think 12 weeks is very optimistic.

Years and waves for years, probably for two years according to Robert Koch institute

"Let's hope this is truncated by the vaccine"

Striving for global immunity!,

Where's Chen Qiushi and Fang Bin??!?!!!

Can you please rebump (again, lol) the latest re: you know, all that stuff..”has now become a part of the “x” group”...

Also the other MP I posted about recently tia.

JG, @Tadpole12 , and others:

Possible fates if CQ / FB / other (forgot his name sorry):

1.) thrown in quarantine, contracted virus.
A) Sick
B)Died

2.) Executed immediately

3.) Being held alive somewhere

What are the latest family statements?

China may able to silence their own media, but they can’t silence all the media around the world.

And as we’ve seen, in the age of SM, their own oppressed citizens have been speaking out throughout this!

RIP Dr. LW

Omg where is @Medstudies

He had Dr. LW as his/her avatar

I have not been as meticulous as you, but grew up with similar rules. I've been thinking about this recently, and I wonder how much is related to the 1918 pandemic.

My mother's mother was Queen of Ironing. She ironed everything, sheets, underwear, socks ~ even the occasional grilled cheese sandwich, (wrap it in foil, iron both sides!) When asked, she would say 'for hygienic reasons'. She would get upset if you pressed her on it.

I suspect it was related to the fear of germs from 1918. Think of the news briefs we get. People in 1918 didn't have that, there were no news broadcasts. They had daily, perhaps twice daily in cities, newspapers. They were on their own far more than we are. I have great respect for past generations.

Your post really made me think more about the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic. I want to read up on that more. Then, someone else reminded me of when people had rationing during WW2. Hardship has taught people ways that stuck with them and helped them survive. Two pounds of sugar per person per month seems more than reasonable.

On a lighter note, your post told me how to make a grill cheese sandwich on an ironing board which might come in handy someday.
