Everyone put your TV on CNN, Cuomo is on, he had NJ family on earlier, they have had 4 family members die now, several more are hospitalized & 19 more still hoping for test results someday.

Hubs is good- seems to have it down- twice as much work than the classroom he says. If he could just learn to use his "inside voice", not his "inside a large classroom" voice.

OT—This made me laugh! My husband taught elementary school for 30 years and about halfway in he developed polyps on his vocal chords, partly from “inside the large classroom voice” and partly from coaching kids outdoors. After having the polyps removed, not speaking for six weeks while they healed, and having speech therapy, he spoke very quietly in his classroom, so his kids had to be quiet to hear him. Worked like a charm. It helped that they we’re fifth graders, not middle schoolers, and wanted to hear him. (He used a portable megaphone outdoors.) Wishing your husband well. Such a challenge!

It is awful. I’m worried about all of us too nobody is safe in my view. Thank you for asking about my friend she is doing ok so far. Unfortunately she had serious pneumonia a few months ago but recovered thank goodness.

I sure hope so and I also hope it is prosecuted. The dotcom bubble and housing crisis bubbles weren't prosecuted. I think Americans are sick of fraud.

There probably were no crimes committed, as even insider-trading is legal for Congress. I don't think I'd call this actual insider-trading, and I don't like it, but to be honest, I'm jealous I didn't do the same darn thing back in January when I thought maybe I should. And I'm just a simple retired housewife....
I do think those elected officials should be forthcoming with their own individual explanations, though- no doubt about that.

Good morning everyone. I’m never going to catch up, I only read of half of yesterday’s thread and we’re already fifteen pages into a new one.
I have a day of Skype calls booked in - likely accompanied on screen by one or two of the cats. William sneezed all over the screen as I was talking one of the Directors yesterday - the subsequent giggles bought said Director’s children to the screen, all cooing over Wills - I have to say, I am not missing going out to in-person meetings.
Today, I have three large bags of potting compost being delivered. Taking every precaution, I have a bottle of disinfectant by the door, ready to spray the bags over before taking them out to the garden.
On my gratitude list today - the thought of a few days of sunshine coming up and being able to plant out the veggie seedlings.
I am coming to realise it really is the little things that matter.

I saw one hipster Millennial kid in the middle of Midtown East a couple years back, legit doubling over (including bent knees?!?), spasming like he was trying to hork up a hairball. No. I think this is evil. These aren’t people who depend on those monies to retire. This is sick.

hear you, I truly do. After reading more, I'm not 100% sure the public was being mislead for any nefarious reason, at that point. It was ( and still is, to a point) an unknown that could go in several different directions. I know that one of the jobs our leaders have is to make sure one has enough facts before possibly panicking the public, and this was and has been a big deal where messaging and info has got to be as good as possible. And we know it can't be as perfect as we like, either.
Is it a good thing for a member of Congress to forcefully speak out, on his/her own, before having a coordinated, expert group well in place? I'm not so sure. I think it might depend on the case, and thank the good Lord, our govt. is not the CCP.

Will see what the morrow brings I do feel a bit more hopeful than I did.

Senator Burr should have spoken to that group with the exact same message as the CDC/White House. His alarm triggered a sell-off that harmed the rest of us which is why insider trading is illegal.

I don't think his speech to that group was what triggered the sell-off. It didn't help, but I know quite a few regular people who have no "connections" at all, who decided to sell, as well. Even I could see it coming, and it wasn't all because of the virus. We also have all the computer, logarithmic institutional selling and buying, which kicks in. As news of the virus got worse and worse, then everyone and his brother panicked and sold.
For people other than Congress people, insider trading is illegal. It is not illegal for them. They wrote their own law that exempted them, don'tcha know? Now, THAT is a law I want repealed, for sure. That steams me, and always has.

This is so difficult for most of our population, and some people are selfishly making it worse for others.

I’m here on Maui, where we will begin lock down tomorrow morning. We’ve already been encouraged the last week to not go out except For essentials,, but tomorrow it will be the law. I’ve noticed that our small local grocery stores have very few people, the non-tourist areas have very little traffic, and people are keeping their distance while shopping. Our schools are closed, our libraries are closed, even our county parks are closed.... the only thing open to residents is our county beaches. All of the local areas are very very quiet, everyone I know is at home, which tells me that our local residents are taking this seriously. (Yeah!)

BUT, our local government has NOT shut down restaurants, tourist targeted activity Businesses and nonessential retail, it’s been on a voluntary basis so some of our establishments have remained open. Why you may ask? the Almighty Tourist dollar.

Yesterday many local people commented that they had seen one of our shopping areas along the beach fully packed with people, two different restaurants had lines out the door, the whale watch boats were full, and many tourists packed on to the beach. (these are reports from local residents who have no choice but to go to work in essential jobs and observed all of this). There were demonstrations yesterday and today at the airport of local people wanting visitors to stop coming. Our governor put out a plea 2 days ago for vacationers to not come for 30 days.

Yet they continue to come. Yesterday we had 16 cases, today 26. All but two of the cases to my knowledge are tourists and not residents of our state. Being on an island, we have less resources than most places on the mainland... no trucks to deliver goods, limited medical supplies and hospital beds, and we STILL have people bringing their infections & viruses from all over the globe.

There was one article in the local news where a couple was interviewed, where they stated they were so happy they got $197 last minute tickets ... And they went on to say that they originally had tickets for Tahiti but because Tahiti is doing a 14 day quarantine and Hawaii does not have any restrictions, they came here instead. Honolulu airport has very limited screening for incoming flights, but the outer islands including Maui do not have any. The tourists are being allowed to frolic and play on the beaches, go to restaurants etc while all the local residents stay home, essentially under ”lockdown”.

My neighbor, (who probably won’t be having many hours soon because he works for a car rental company), told me when he was at work two days ago there were tourists that were bragging that they got such cheap tickets that they decided if they have to be stuck somewhere and/or quarantined, they’d rather do it here than where they’re from.

The local people are begging our government to establish a quarantine. I sent emails to our Mayor, our head of the department of transportation, & to the White House.

Are we angry? Yes

We rely on visitors and therefore we usually welcome them with open arms, but not at this time. It is not the time for vacations . Not only will our local businesses suffer from this epidemic, but it will decimate our tourist industry, yet stopping the flow of visitors to our islands is essential, Even if it cost us jobs... better to lose jobs than lives. We need to, like everywhere else, contain the spread, get our people and our economy healthy, and then we will welcome you all back here with open arms & Aloha.

please, if you know anyone that is planning to come visit please tell them DO NOT COME. We love you but we don’t want you here right now.

BTW, woke up this morning with a headache, stuffy nose and generally feeling not very well. Hoping it’s just allergies. My son is not feeling well, and he is an essential worker, LE. In the past week he’s had to fly inter Island twice for business, and has been to the emergency room for police business twice. Because of his high exposure, I can’t have contact with him or my grandkids. My daughter has lupus, I haven’t seen her for over a week. We left some food for her on her porch the other day, and thankfully she has a supportive husband. I live alone and I’m having to stay away from all of my family, which is pretty hard. But I’m preaching to the choir because many of you are in the same boat.

thank you, and I will hope that your friend stay safe and healthy. some people are out of work but it should be temporary, and our state is making it easier for people to apply for unemployment and there won’t be the one week waiting. That is usually the case
