SOUTH KOREA

Daily dose of #Hope from #SouthKorea. After a brief bump in new #covid19 cases yesterday, the sun sets on a better day. Only 87 new cases, returning to trend. CFR confirms what we have seen elsewhere: this is dangerous in the old, rarely lethal under 50. Testing 10K per day ATM. https://t.co/0w8xXWDZA4p

HEALTHMAP TO WATCH FOR INCREASES.....CAN SEARCH FOR YOUR AREA

The map shows two key data points: (1) the illness levels we’re currently observing, and (2) the degree to which those levels are higher than the typical levels we expect to see at this point in the flu season. (Details on how we calculate this are available in our technical approach document.) We believe this latter data point — which we’re calling “atypical illness”, may in some cases be connected to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Please note: We are not stating that this data represents COVID-19 activity. However, we would expect to pick up higher-than-anticipated levels of flu-like symptoms in our data in areas where the pandemic is affecting large numbers of people. Taken together with other data points, we believe this data may be a helpful early indicator of where and how quickly the virus is spreading.

It was discovered a bunch of people in Congress did it before the financial crisis. IIRC, nothing happened to them because there is no law against it.

You’re right it wasn’t illegal then but in 2012 Congress passed the STOCK Act (reluctantly!) which made it illegal for people in Congress to trade on information they learn in their duties. We’ll see if anyone will be prosecuted. They should be.

Sturgeon: I cannot say when measures will be lifted

Asked about UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's suggestion that the tide can be turned in 12 weeks, Nicola Sturgeon says she hopes he is right but adds: "None of us can stand here and say with certainty when we will be in a position to lift these measures."

Chief medical officer for Scotland Dr Catherine Calderwood reiterates the first minister's message to comply with medical advice.

"All of the scientific advice tell us these measures will be effective in slowing the spread of the virus," she says.

Restriction should continue ‘most of a year’

Policies to limit the spread of coronavirus would need to be in place for "at least most of a year" to prevent intensive care units being overwhelmed, according to official scientific advice to the government.

The documents, prepared by the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage), said alternating between more and less strict measures could "plausibly be effective at keeping the number of critical care cases within capacity".
