I am in Fort Myers Florida and i have not heard about atypical fevers throughout the state. I googled that- nothing. I checked Fort Myers News- nothing. Who is Topher Spiro? I do have to say that the powers that be in Florida were irresponsible for allowing the spring breakers to remain on those beaches for too damn long. it boggles the brain how lax some of our so called leaders are, both federal and state.

Coronavirus: Social distancing needs to be in place for most of a year, say government advisers

Coronavirus: Social distancing needs to be in place for most of a year, say government advisers

Social distancing restrictions need to be in place for "at least most of a year", according to scientists advising the government.

Evidence from the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE), which is advising ministers on the UK's response to the coronavirus pandemic, has been published by the government.

It comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Thursday that the UK could "turn the tide" against COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, in 12 weeks.

However, evidence from SAGE has cast some doubt on this claim.

This is leading indicators from hospitals. Frankly the Governor probably already has the data. Different organizations have tracked leading indicators of flu for years.

I'm sure you haven't heard.....that's why Topher is telling us.

#BREAKING: NY, CT, NJ, and PA will temporarily close all barber shops, nail & hair salons, tattoo shops, & similar services in our four states effective tomorrow at 8PM.
These temporary closures are not going to be easy, but they are necessary to protect the public health.

Shelter in place? Whitmer says it's not under consideration

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is blunt when asked whether she's considering a shelter-in-place order that might grind the rest of Michigan's economy to a halt.

“I am not," she said in an interview with The Detroit News. "I want to be very clear about that. I’ve gotten a lot of questions about that lately.”...

Coronavirus: 51-year-old Milton father second person to die from COVID-19 in Ontario
''The family of a 51-year-old Milton man who died from COVID-19 is remembering the father-of-three and musician as someone who was vibrant and caring.

“He’s one of those good guys that you love to be around. He was super friendly, super outgoing, loving, caring – just one of the good ones,” Linda Watson, who is cousins with Sean Cunnington’s wife, told Global News Thursday evening.''

“Just living his life up until a week-and-a-half ago and then [COVID-19] hit.”

-ensure medical treatment for uninsured
-build up healthcare facilities, equipment & supplies
-provide needed relief for unemployed & struggling businesses
-conduct elections & basic local govt.

This article is SO misleading:
Trump’s 500 Million Respirators Could Take 18 Months to Deliver

See:
beta.SAM.gov

The Contract Solicitation pdf states:
C.4 Contract Period of Performance
The Government has a requirement to acquire these items for both response to public health events, and preparedness. Due to
the COVID-19 response ongoing at the time of solicitation of this requirement, the Government has a need for some of the items
to be delivered quickly; offerors are to provide a proposed schedule for items that can be delivered quickly without overwhelming
the supply chain, with additional items delivered over a period not to exceed 18 months.
In an effort to not disrupt the current
supply chain during a national emergency, the Government is anticipating a split award resulting in multiple contracts for
incremental delivery of items over a period not to exceed 18 months. Proposed delivery schedules will be finalized and become
part of the award.

Toilet paper customers clog Cheboygan warehouse for rare public sale

Cheboygan — It doesn't matter if your car isn't No. 1 in line when you have to go No. 2.

Drivers stocked up this week when a commercial tissue company decided to offer cases of toilet paper to the public for cheap. Among the most enthusiastic purchasers and creative stackers was Sarah Fitzek of Gaylord, who bought more than her Mercedes could reasonably hold...

Not sure if this has been posted yet or not, but it is intriguing..
rbbm, lengthy article.
Copper Destroys Viruses and Bacteria. Why Isn’t It Everywhere?
''In the 1854 to 1855 cholera epidemic, Burq could not find any deaths of jewellers, goldsmiths, or boilermakers—all those who worked with copper. In people in the army, he found that musicians who played brass instruments (brass is partly copper) were also protected.

''Today, we have insight into why a person handling copper day in and day out would have protection from a bacterial threat: Copper is antimicrobial. It kills bacteria and viruses, sometimes within minutes. In the 19th century, exposure to copper would have been an early version of constantly sanitizing one's hands.''

Since then, studies have shown that copper is able to destroy the microbes that most threaten our lives. It has been shown to kill a long list of microbes, including norovirus, MRSA, a staph bacteria that has become resistant to antibiotics, virulent strains of E. coli that cause food-borne illness, and coronaviruses—possibly including the novel strain currently causing the COVID-19 pandemic.

If copper were more frequently used in hospitals, where 1 in 31 people get healthcare-acquired infections (HAI), or in high-traffic areas, where many people touch surfaces teeming with microbial life—it could play an invaluable role in public health, said Michael Schmidt, a professor of microbiology and immunology at the Medical University of South Carolina, who studies copper. And yet, it is woefully absent from our public spaces, healthcare settings, and homes.''

''On copper surfaces, bacteria and viruses die. When a microbe lands on a copper surface, the copper releases ions, which are electrically charged particles. Those copper ions blast through the outer membranes and destroy the whole cell, including the DNA or RNA inside''

Henry, you are the best! You did graphs like this previously that were per capita (vs. one here which is straight numbers). Is your source still doing per capita graphs as for some reason I really liked that one better as a true picture (as so many countries have such different numbers of populations so that made more sense to me in that format)

If you come across such, could you share that one type? Thanks in advance.
