Is it clear when all these beds will be needed? Tysm
Cuomo is being extremely proactive. He wants the beds there for whenever of if ever they’re needed.

On a different topic, I'm still upset about the UK health care workers and their inability to find food.

Nurses are coming off long shifts, have had little food, have to go to stores and try and feed their families. There's no food in the larger cities, which is where the healthcare is. Specifically, there's no protein, eggs and milk are gone, and no bread. Nurses need the best nutrition IMO. I wonder how it's going in NYC with that aspect.

We've got food banks here that still have food for health workers, but I sure do hope things don't get worse.

'There's No Fruit Or Veg': U.K. Nurse Makes Emotional Plea To Panicked Shoppers

And the work. The WORK the healthcare workers are doing (everywhere). It's crazy.

I'm sure it's the same in NY already. The next week is going to make or break our own nation's responses.

no beans, lentils, chickpeas, green peas, quinoa, oats, oatmeal, soy milk, wild rice, nuts & seeds, broccoli, spinach, potatoes, bananas, nectarines, blackberries?
those and more contain protein

THE COVID TRACKING PROJECT

Our 4 pm update is published. The US has now completed tests on at least 179,220 people, up 44,035 from yesterday's total.
Note that we can only track tests that a state reports (for now). And not all states report all negative tests.
For details, see: The COVID Tracking Project
The COVID Tracking Project on Twitter

New York accelerated past Washington in per capita positive tests. Here’s the top 10:
New York
Washington
New Jersey
Louisiana
DC
Michigan
Massachusetts
Colorado
Rhode Island
Illinois

I don’t believe any stats regarding tests. Too much confusion. One lab reports, another lab does not, one lab sends test to CDC and so forth. Each time our gov’ updates I’m more confused. When an out of state person tests positive he counts the person then tells us the person is actually not from here. Makes no dif if she’s here & tested here.

NEXTSTRAIN

1/7 To support our local/regional #COVID19 investigations, we (@JosephFauver, @VogelsChantal, @AndersonBrito_ et al) sequenced the 9 #SARSCOV2 genomes from Connecticut. Importantly, these sequences cluster with the large Washington clade, showing domestic spread within the U.S.

2/7 Only 2 of our first 9 genomes cluster together, suggesting multiple independent introductions into CT.
This is not too surprising given the amount of transmission around the US/world and our global connectivity. Nathan Grubaugh on Twitter

3/7 Most of our CT genomes cluster with those from WA, and one (Yale-005) is even basal to the clade. Until we have more data, it’s difficult to know where this clade was first introduced in the US, or if it was the result of multiple introductions of genetically similar viruses. Nathan Grubaugh on Twitter

4/7 Main point of CT genomes clustering with WA is that this provides evidence for interstate, and potentially trans-continental domestic spread. We are analyzing travel patterns to help investigate. Note that spread is probably not CT -> WA or WA -> CT directly, need more data.

5/7 Domestic spread - which would come as zero surprise to anyone following this outbreak - does have serious policy implications. We must focus our efforts on improving local surveillance rather than banning international travel. This is not a “foreign” virus.

Tysm @zecats I try to listen each time he’s on, I wasn’t sure if anyone on the east coast had a timeframe on when the beds must be established. Weeks? Months?

Online teachings is happening globally, perhaps religious leaders should take heed.
Could you please provide a link or some kind of proof that religious leaders in the U.S. are not taking heed? Thanks.

“Hong Kong closed schools; Singapore did not, and there was hardly any difference in the rate of transmission.”
Perhaps because Singapore PH are SARS-CoV-2 ninjas who doggedly tracked down and tested people.
I know the US, and the US is no Singapore. https://t.co/FvKppM0qeW

You know, I have to laugh at myself sometimes. When I was in the Kroger a few days ago, I caught myself thinking angry thoughts at the shoppers around me, silently judging them for not being prepared earlier, and for clogging up the aisles. Then it occurred to me. . . "they" are probably thinking the exact same things about ME. LOL.

Thursday morning, I was on my way to work and was surprised at how heavy the traffic was. Again, I found myself thinking: Why are you out and about? What's so important that you have to be driving around this morning instead of staying home? Again, they may have been thinking the same thing about me in my car.

The problem of the outdoors being overcrowded is partly because everyone else also thought it would be a great idea to get "out" and away from people. I'm not a big "texter," but so many people are texting constantly. You'd think it would be easier for them to keep an acceptable social distance from their friends/family while enjoying the wide open spaces. No need to chat while walking, just text each other from 6 feet away!

Aren't humans funny? IMO
I am at odds with blaming people that aren't following the guidelines.
I am a hugger. If not hugging leaning in to engage someone.
It's a tough habit to break though I am learning.
It will take time to adjust to the new normal.
Hard to grasp that this disease should be first and foremost in our minds.
MOO.

I didn't say they weren't taking heed, just mentioning that teachers, religious and otherwise, across the world are going online at this time.

I FEEL NAUSEOUS TOO....

Doing analysis today on past 9 weeks of covid response and it makes me feel nauseous how little action was taken early on. Widespread complacency to take covid seriously, early denial by many government, & lack of compassion by govt & advisors on what this means for families.

You may have to wean yourself off hugging if you can't go cold turkey. Depending on how bad this gets and how long it sticks around, hugging may be considered assault with a deadly weapon in the (near) future. IMO. LOL

@drama_farmer I think the same thing, all of us must, lol.
Obviously we all need things, at one point. I detest shopping so my goal is and has always been to race in & out as fast as I can, without causing bodily injury to myself or anyone else. I have friends that can spend hours in the grocery section. On a good day I can hit the car wash, Lowe’s, gas station & WMT & be home in under two hours, with the rest of the day to do as I please.

CANADA

March 21 #COVID19 update in #Canada
Total 1329 reported cases, with 242 today — incl first in Northwest Territories.
With growing testing capacity, not a surprise to see jumps in #’s. But we all have to do our part to #FlattenTheCurve
