But that’s just his (educated) opinion. There are plenty of opposing opinions that the virus doesn’t thrive in heat and humidity. Human Coronaviruses tend to be seasonal, but animal Coronaviruses usually aren’t. But patterns have shown this one IS behaving seasonally with the biggest outbreaks in a certain latitude, temps and humidity. (I’m getting info from previously posted articles in these threads). So who knows?! Only time will tell. I’m going to hope for it being affected by heat/humidity b/c that would make it easier to predict, but not counting on it. We’ll still have to deal with it coming back in the fall then, but still. Maybe we’ll be better prepared.

The situation & guidelines remain fluid, I’m sure many are confused. One day we’re told to get out, go to the parks, get fresh air, the next day we’re told to stay away. Anyone not glued to the news is likely clueless on many directives. Moo

Just spoke w/ friend who's grandson is a cook
in a Georgia restaurant and has tested positive.
In his 20's, works the night shift, quarantined
to his home. He had a bad headache for 3 days
as first symptom.
Might want to re-consider even getting takeout
or delivery from restaurants. Anyone can be carrying the virus even before outward symptoms show up.

In the state where I live they are urging us to order carry out and delivery from restaurants to help support them. But I feel this is a bad idea. People are still handling your food, and we have no way of knowing whether everyone is truly washing hand, disinfecting counters, etc.

All it takes is one sick person to infect countless others.

Locally the news stations, radio hosts, and Yelp are recommending restaurant delivery using UberEats, DoorDash, etc. That is even worse because you are adding an additional person handling your food. Even if the food is in a box or bag, coronavirus can live for 24 hours or more on cardboard and plastic.

Also, the same Uber drivers that deliver food also provide rides to passengers when they aren’t on a food delivery run. How many people have been in the car where your food is being delivered?

Four friends from Charlotte are currently stuck in the Galapagos Islands after their return flight to the United States was canceled amid concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

BB-S, AS, LC and CC have been in the Galapagos Islands since March 11. The group planned on taking a vacation together, but the trip has been anything but relaxing.

I’m glad Gov’ Cuomo mentioned you can be negative at 10, talk to six people & get it. So many still think a negative is a free ticket, it means nothing, except at the precise time of test the person was negative.

Background

Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is caused by a newly discovered coronavirus (SARS-CoV). No effective prophylactic or post-exposure therapy is currently available.

Results
We report, however, that chloroquine has strong antiviral effects on SARS-CoV infection of primate cells. These inhibitory effects are observed when the cells are treated with the drug either before or after exposure to the virus, suggesting both prophylactic and therapeutic advantage. In addition to the well-known functions of chloroquine such as elevations of endosomal pH, the drug appears to interfere with terminal glycosylation of the cellular receptor, angiotensin-converting enzyme 2. This may negatively influence the virus-receptor binding and abrogate the infection, with further ramifications by the elevation of vesicular pH, resulting in the inhibition of infection and spread of SARS CoV at clinically admissible concentrations.

Conclusion
Chloroquine is effective in preventing the spread of SARS CoV in cell culture. Favorable inhibition of virus spread was observed when the cells were either treated with chloroquine prior to or after SARS CoV infection. In addition, the indirect immunofluorescence assay described herein represents a simple and rapid method for screening SARS-CoV antiviral compounds.

Chloroquine, a relatively safe, effective and cheap drug used for treating many human diseases including malaria, amoebiosis and human immunodeficiency virus is effective in inhibiting the infection and spread of SARS CoV in cell culture. NY Post article about the wealthy fleeing New York City for The Hamptons, east end of Long Island. There has been extreme demand for rental houses. Those fleeing the city have wiped out the small groceries that are low stocked only for locals during off-season, they are carrying COVID19 and will overwhelm the little hospital.
