BORIS Johnson has warned the NHS faces being OVERWHELMED by coronavirus just like the swamped health service has been in Italy.

He fears the system could start to fall apart within just two weeks unless Brits heed lockdown advice aimed at stopping the spread of the killer pandemic.

Now in a letter to the nation, the Prime Minister warns the country needs make a “heroic and collective national effort.”

He wrote: “The numbers are very stark, and they are accelerating. We are only a matter of weeks – two or three – behind Italy.

“The Italians have a superb healthcare system. And yet their doctors and nurses have been completely overwhelmed by the demand.

Boris warns NHS could be ‘overwhelmed’ by virus in 2 weeks unless Brits lock down

Selfies from Britain's coronavirus frontline: NHS workers share snaps of their worn-out faces after exhausting shifts battling killer bug - and reveal public are 'spitting' at them and calling them 'disease spreaders' on the streets

Nurses are being spat at and called 'disease spreaders' in coronavirus battle | Daily Mail Online

This is absolutely disgraceful these people should be arrested and publicly named and shamed.

Do they not realise these health workers are the ones who they or their loved ones will badly need if their lives are in danger from the virus?

We just started getting our temps taken On Friday. Inside the building. We were all reading like 96.something. I’m skeptical. But maybe those scanner ones read cool. Idk
I take my temp every morning too with an old fashioned oral thermometer. This morning it read 96.8 (F) and has never been higher than 97.5. (F) Is it me or the thermometer?

ETA Either way I'm liking those numbers.

Hundreds of thousands of people were reported to have visited Skegness, in Lincolnshire, on Saturday, flouting the advice to maintain “social distancing”.

Marc Jones, Lincolnshire’s police and crime commissioner, has called for the town’s caravan sites and arcades to be closed, “and quickly”.

Skegness was not the only seaside town reported to have been busy this weekend. In Chichester, West Wittering Beach closed on Saturday afternoon after the number of visitors it accommodated “far exceeded” its expectations. “We understand that the restrictions imposed by the government make us an attractive option for exercise, dog walking, and socialising, but we cannot in good conscience remain open to the public,” the beach’s estate said in a statement.

There were also reports of large crowds along the East Yorkshire coast, and other resorts, including Brighton and Hove, were believed to be busy.

I can’t *like* this, it makes me too angry. What is wrong with the mentality of people like this. And you just know, the moment they get sick themselves they’ll be falling over themselves to get these ‘disease spreaders’ to help them.:mad::mad:

First study I've seen using Cloth Masks vs. Medical Masks:
Penetration of particles:
Cloth masks- 97%
Medical Masks 44%
A cluster randomised trial of cloth masks compared with medical masks in healthcare workers
Concerning, but it's kind of a weird study as their control group was allowed to wear mask as their normal practice. Which basically means they didn't have a control group to compare if cloth masks were better than nothing. The medical masks they were using were disposed of each day, while cloth masks were reused throughout the study, with participants asked to wash them themselves. Also, my understanding is, hospitals that are requesting cloth masks will have to put a filter into the pocket.
But clearly, if those masks are not used as disposable, sterilization will become a big issue.

Kansas City metro issues ‘stay-at-home’ order, extends Missouri school closures for next month

This includes my county now Leavenworth, KS.

I want to thank all of you for keeping the thread full of current information. I read almost everything I just don't post. Please don't forget about us in the middle of the USA. I know we don't have as many cases yet. It is just now starting to grow in numbers.

I am sheltered in place already. Only place I have been is the dreaded grocery store and a medical appointment that was already scheduled

The days of discussion are over.
Every day now spent waiting means more lives marked - to be claimed later.
We can have a million meetings afterwards, but now we must simply act.
No more hesitation.
Form an expert group, divide the tasks, & MOVE.

If you are in TENNESSEE, please self isolate.

Look at the difference between how the Kentucky Governor and Tennessee Governor handled the Coronavirus
And look at the results of those policies

I can sew and would love to help make mask. I just want to know the correct way to make them. If like you say if they have to put a filter inside of them then that changes how they are made. I guess I will wait to make some and see what the requirement are. Thanks for the informative post.

Reuters Exclusive: Tokyo 2020 organisers have started drafting possible alternatives to holding the Olympics this summer, two sources familiar with the talks said, in contrast to the Japanese government's stance that postponement is not an option.

Someone needs to make a GIF of Dr. Tedros saying "test, test, test; trace, trace, trace"

"First, many health experts, including the surgeon general of the United States, told the public simultaneously that masks weren’t necessary for protecting the general public and that health care workers needed the dwindling supply. This contradiction confuses an ordinary listener. How do these masks magically protect the wearers only and only if they work in a particular field?"

If you google "normal human body temperature", there are a couple of links on the first page (from WebMd and Healthline), that explain that average normal temperatures have been decreasing.
I will try and paste links, but I am new to posting here and haven't been able to paste links (don't know if it is my phone, or something I am doing wrong).

I can't figure out how to paste a URL from my clipboard, sorry. It works on most sites, (although FB sometimes gives me trouble), but not here.
