Have you read the S bill? It gives $500 billion to businesses. H wants it to go to the people. Not sheer stupidity.
I haven't seen the S bill but Trump made it very clear he is not in favor of giving businesses large sums of money they could then turn around and use for stock buy-backs to run up the stock price....and ultimately $$ land in the pockets of executives rather than the workers.

I agree with the wet markets but do some deeper investigating on this particular virus. Frank Plummer was a great scientist that had been working with this virus.
Wow and he was Canadian!!!

Do you have link to help us find the information that you're talking about?

There will be a lot of people with heightened mental health crises as a result of this virus; anxiety, stress, fear, depression and loneliness can all be killers. Suicide numbers will rise due to those things, and also the prospect or reality of losing loved ones, jobs, businesses and homes.
Yes, sadly. This is epic!

Given that our young are overweight or obese in larger numbers and given that those same youth are disproportionately from lower socioeconomic levels and

Given that our young have a higher rate of diabetes 2

...we will see different profiles for mortality here. Also, we have high rates of depression and anxiety in younger people, and depression is not good for the immune system. I suspect anxiety is not good either.

Do Depression Symptoms Predict Early Hypertension Incidence in Young Adults in the CARDIA Study?

At any rate, our youth don't always get exercise, live in polluted circumstances (worsened since EPA regulations were lowered), and science can't keep up with it.

This event will give fodder for thousands of future studies - but without federal funding, the results will be localized to California, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington and Oregon (IMO)

They ALL need to get their s**t together and get it done! R's and D's both.

I agree, they need to stop the squabbling and pass the bill..or put together a new bill containing only what the both parties agree on today and squabble about the rest in the days to come. If you are a small business owner or laid off employee the sooner something passes the better.

I know there are many services such as salons etc. etc. who are out of work. Check if you can buy a gift card online.

<modsnip: quoted post was removed>

As far as science goes, I get it. But is it especially useful or a good use of resources to get that hindsight now? Genuinely wondering.

That kind of research is what has solved major viral problems in the past. How do we get a vaccine otherwise? We want one that works for everyone, right?

GEORGIA

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — The U.S. government is asking a metro Atlanta county to work with a facility it recently closed as the need for sterilized medical equipment grows around the United States.

In a letter from Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Stephen M. Hahn, he asked on behalf of the FDA that Governor Brian Kemp and Cobb County help the country battle COVID-19 "by working with Sterigenics to allow for the appropriate sterilization of PPE."

Sterigenics, which has a plant in Cobb County just outside of Smyrna, had previously come under fire for the release of ethylene oxide - a chemical linked to some forms of cancer. The chemical is also key in the process of sterilizing medical products.

Sterigenics has been installing new emission control equipment at its Cobb County facility. However, the facility was forced to close during the process amid continued public concern and the request of Governor Kemp and the Environmental Protection Division.

The coronavirus pandemic, however, has since put a severe strain on sanitized medical equipment supplies across the country.

"As part of FDA's ongoing and aggressive commitment to address the coronavirus outbreak, we continue to keep a strong focus on facilitating the development of medical products, surveilling the global supply chain, and working with state and local officials to ensure the necessary supplies are available to care for and protect our most vulnerable populations," Hahn said.

Your opinion is your opinion, I have read about the Spanish flu way before the COVID. And about why so many viral diseases come from China (again, it is not against China, rather, about “social distancing” between the people and the wild animals)

Let's face it, if they hadn't been slaughtering and eating wild mammals, this would not have happened.

As an anthropologist, this issue has troubled us for decades. We are not designed for this practice (🤬🤬🤬🤬 sapiens).

Oh well, too late now and probably not going to change in China (although they did outlaw slaughtering and using parts of wild cats, I believe).

So many reasons why bats and bat-related species are a problem but...that doesn't change habits of people on the ground in China. Look for China to enact some new measures.
