I have been washing my hands constantly, perhaps it’s the soap - but now I have very dry patches on my knuckles and cracks starting. I’m hoping my mom has some cotton gloves somewhere in the house.
Anyone got any suggestions?

What's in the $2 trillion stimulus package - CNNPolitics
[...]

CNN reporters are reading through the draft legislation. Here's a running list of highlights:

Direct payments to individuals
Under the plan as it was being negotiated, single Americans would receive $1,200, married couples would get $2,400 and parents would see $500 for each child under age 17.

[...]

Student loan payments suspended
The Department of Education would suspend payments on student loan borrowers without penalty through September 30, according to the bill.

[...]

REAL ID deadline delayed
The deadline to obtain a REAL ID, federally mandated identification that will be needed for passengers to board aircraft, will be extended until at least September 2021 -- a year past the current deadline, according to a draft version of the Senate stimulus bill obtained by CNN.

[...]

Historic boost for unemployment benefits
In an unprecedented expansion of unemployment insurance, the federal government would give jobless workers an extra $600 a week for four months on top of their state benefits, which range from $200 to $550 a week, on average, depending on the state.

In addition, lawmakers want to add up to 13 weeks of extended benefits, which would be fully covered by the federal government. Currently, state unemployment checks last up to between 12 weeks and 28 weeks, depending on the state.

[...]

$500 billion lending program
The Treasury Department can provide $500 billion in loans, loan guarantees and investments.

That specifically includes $25 billion for passenger air carriers, $4 billion for cargo air carriers and $17 billion for businesses that work in national security. The rest of the funds, $454 billion, are given wide latitude to provide loans to businesses, states and municipalities.

It seems insane. But people are still in denial. I’m going to use this smaller deal with mask-making to make my point.

Here’s the interesting thing I have observed about this. First, I posted about masks being made in Indiana for a hospital on my timeline and I tagged friends who sew. I said it looks like we need to do some WWII type stuff, gals. People were shocked. Nobody mobilized because, hey, we’re not in Indiana. So then I posted about another state. Still, nobody I knew started.

Then in a small community group for the village next to me, a nurse posted, begging people to make masks. Someone tagged me and all of a sudden people got in gear. More nurses from other hospitals started posting in there as well and we were/are a bit overwhelmed.

So then a friend from a different state posted, asking if anyone was doing this in her area. Nobody responded except me. I said if the hospitals haven’t asked yet, they will, so I would get started. Nobody did. They, like us, thought it would never come to that in their state! So then yesterday a nurse from that state started begging me for some masks and I went back to these other friends and all of a sudden they felt overwhelmed by requests.

So people keep looking at this happening in other states with shock and awe but do nothing yet because they still somehow believe this isn’t going to come to their door. And when it does, they are overwhelmed.

It’s really exactly what happened with this entire country, and almost no one was prepared.

Now we need to make sure the rest of the states don’t become NY and that the US doesn’t become Italy.

@JaneEyre Thank you for making these masks, and for advising others who can, to do so.

To your last point, I'm in NYC and you're right. Believe me, we don't want the rest of America to deal with what we are dealing with here.

I haven't left my apartment for a week, and have only opened my door to get my newspaper (which is delivered), and to throw out the garbage in the hallway incinerator. Never did I think the day would come when I would be afraid of my own newspaper.

It almost sounds like eczema. What I learned is that cortisone can help. Even neosporin plus pain (plus pain part is crucial here because of the ingredient) will help. And I would start with that at night and then use a good moisturizer during the day. Cerave is recommended by doctors.

@MimosaMornings best stuff for cracked hands is "Bag Balm", they sell it at Walmart and on Amazon. Aquaphor is good too. Or even just apply Chapstick to those knuckles a couple of times a day.

Vaseline!
I have had terrible bouts of eczema, and then addiction to and withdrawal from the multiple topical steroids that were prescribed, and what healed my skin best was plain old Vaseline. I swear by it, and I am using it now that I am having the same hand issues as you from the constant washing.
Vaseline!

Online poll: Fauci, Cuomo most trusted leaders on coronavirus
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) and National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci are the two most trusted Americans when it comes to information about the coronavirus outbreak, according to an online poll.

The Business Insider poll conducted this week found that Fauci and Cuomo scored first and second, respectively, on a list of U.S. leaders among adults who were asked to rate each figure on a scale of one to five, with five being total trust in the person's words.

Fauci scored a 3.84 out of five, according to Business Insider, with 40 percent of respondents rating him a perfect five. That percentage was twice as high for Fauci as it was for Cuomo, the second-most trusted U.S. figure. More than 86 percent of U.S. respondents rated Fauci a three or higher.

Cuomo scored an average 3.29 out of five for trustworthiness, with at least 75 percent of Americans rating him a three or higher and more than a fifth (22 percent) rating him a five out of five.

Sorry if this has already been posted.
Minnesota governor declared a stay at home. $1000 fine/90 days in jail for violations. Grocery shopping, pharmacy, walks, jogs, biking still allowed, but no more treating this like a vacation. No more parties. No more pick-up games around school yards, etc.

I don't think it's eczema. I got the same thing (red patches on my skin) due to much more frequent handwashing. I am using hand creams to help with that.

I’m a germaphobe and I’ve always wanted to clean the groceries before putting them in the fridge but I thought that would be a bridge too far for my husband and that others would think I was nuts. Now it’s par for the course. And yes, I’m afraid of my mail. I’m afraid of the brick I use to set down on the mask packages I leave out because nurses are lifting that brick on their way home from work. When I realized that I had not immediately washed my hands after touching it earlier, I worried I may have touched my face and hair so I ended up showering. I feel crazy for all of this. But then again, Murphy’s Law tends to follow me around and I can totally picture me contracting this from a brick while doing a good deed.

Yes but have gloves because this stuff is messy! (I’d still apply cortisone or neosporin first, though.)
