Can anyone help me find out when the Coral Princess cruise ship set sail and from where, please? Someone I know from the UK is stuck on it as it's not been allowed to dock anywhere, there are no virus cases on board.

She's playing merry hell on social media though, and there's a part of me thinking why tf did you get on a cruise ship in the first place. I just don't know how long she's been on it. My sympathy levels are in limbo until I know more!!

Reuters: TOKYO GOVERNOR: MAY NEED TO CONSIDER LOCKDOWN IF WE DON'T TAKE MOVES TO SLOW INFECTIONS AND INFECTIONS CONTINUE TO RISE AT THIS PACE
Vincent Lee on Twitter

"The fact that Tokyo's governor is talking about even the possibility of a lockdown for the city is pretty jarring, just a day after the Summer Olympics were officially postponed"

I’m not sure how these one-time checks will work but it concerns me that there will be plenty of us who get them but don’t really need them. My dh and I probably fall into that category, thankfully, and we don't feel right viewing this money as a fun windfall and using it to buy a new “toy”when so many are struggling...although I suppose that’s the point of “economic stimulus.” But it still feels weird. I imagine others are in that position also. It would be nice to think of positive ways to use the money...

-Donate to local charities directly helping people...food bank, etc.
-Support local businesses (restaurants? hair dressers? etc) by buying gift certificates to use or give to friends.
-Divide the money (anonymously?) among friends who are struggling. (But if they receive low income benefits from social services, they will have to declare the gift and it might reduce their benefits like food stamps.)
-Buy food and other necessities for friends and/or strangers.
-Cover someone’s medical bill.

Other ideas?

We don't need the money either, but with five adults in our immediate family who are currently unemployed, the crunch is going to hit us like a ton of bricks. This money is one more month of helping them out.

Not having enough masks, protective clothing etc for healthcare workers and just under 9000 ventilators for a country with 67 million people (the U.K) is inexcusable. The U.S has the same problems. I have been watching the U.S task force press conferences too and have had to resist smashing my TV when the non-medical expert speaks. He is telling a fairytale that everything will be great and the churches will be full on Easter Sunday. The reality is thousands of people will have died and thousands of people will be very sick on ventilators and the U.S healthcare system will be on its knees.

**I'm not going to say anything more on the subject because I do not want to get political and the thread shut down. I just care about innocent people needlessly dying before their time more than the economy. We should also not just accept thousands dying from coronavirus because of the number of people who die from the flu.**

Many many of us know we MUST get better and more reliable than listening to those variety shows each day. The next few weeks are going to be very scary if people just think they can go outside as if nothing is going on. Lots of people are believing this.........

They were building hospitals in a matter of days so yes I agree - I would multiply their death rate by 10 - I believe millions have died
JMO

There were reports and video from China where they were doubling up the dead in body bags. The dead (and semi-dead if you followed some of the citizen journalists) were getting hauled off to incinerators 24/7.

Where is Chen Qiuishi and the other citizens who reported this information? Hauled off by police, never to be seen again.

Amidst all the news tracking, i want to add something for the lighter side to give us a smile. This is how an Oklahoma museum is handling the closure, it is such a nice idea in this hard times
Cowboy Museum Puts Their Head Of Security In Charge Of Their Twitter, And His Tweets Are Hilariously Wholesome

This kind of stuff helps me, while still doing my best in practising social distancing (but calling friends and family frequently ), working from home, supporting locals etc.
You have no idea how much I needed this this morning! Thank you! Tim is the best! :D

It is an absolute disgrace nobody should be going to their work in a hospital and be forced to put their lives at risk. Doctors and nurses are going to die in both our countries just like what is happening in Italy.
Yep. They will sacrifice their lives to "try" and save someone else.
Only... the sad fact is...most patients don't wake up and hop off the table and continue living...
I'll stop right here.
It's awful!

Thanks, she can't be in Florida yet as was only off the coast of Brazil a couple of days ago. I wonder if the blue markers on that map are the planned route and the red marker (which is hidden behind no8 and I can't zoom in) is current position.

Either way I think she's been on it since 5th March, on a 32 day cruise around South America from Chile to US. Not sure I would have boarded but I guess at that point she'd have lost all her money if she'd cancelled. Trip of a lifetime yet they've not been able to disembark and see anything, what a shame.

From what I've read, there is nothing going to be in any stimulus package that covers independent contractors, gig-workers, people whose previous unemployment has run out and who have been searching for work, anyone who did not file a tax return in 2018, and anyone whose 2018 pay was below a certain amount (I believe the cutoff for no funds was in the $2,000-3,000 range). Homeless people will not get funds. In short, only people who made over a certain amount with a filed tax return in 2018 with a w-2 (not a 1099) will qualify. Also, for many restaurant servers, it won't cover their loss of tips.

Just what I've read. I'm an independent contractor writer who knows a ton of fellow writers and other gig-workers who have no idea what we'll do. And no, in California, independent contractors and gig-workers are not covered by unemployment insurance at all.

Your opinion is important and valid. I think differently.......They own homes, pay their local and state taxes and utilities, spend their money in their communities etc. all out of their SS checks and lifetime savings ( if any)... Opinion - Every American deserves the same stimulus check regardless of income. That would really help a lot of people out during this time and help the overall economy....moo

Many of my retired friends and colleagues who are receiving social security are also impacted by the stock market crash and loss of money that they count on to make ends meet, and their retirement plans could be at risk. Ohio, for example, is a state where public employees don't pay into social security as they receive a state pension, but not necessarily health benefits, other than medicare, without a supplemental plan unless they purchase it on their own. This includes teachers in public schools, police officers, firefighters, county and local state employees, as well as faculty in universities and colleges, etc.

So I have no problem with them receiving stimulus checks. This is an uncertain time economically and will be for quite some time, and retired people on small pensions, etc. need to be prepared.
