Usually, when we do the major cases, folks can start a sub thread if they have posted more than 20 times or so. Have you tried to start a subthread for such?

Tricia has requested that members not start threads on this subject while she is in the process of setting up the forum.

Hey Everyone,

This forum was supposed to be invisible while it was being worked on.
A mistake was made and the forum was made public.

PLEASE DO NOT CREATE ANY NEW THREADS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE GENERAL CORONAVIRUS DISCUSSION THREAD.

We will do our best to have this organized by the end of the weekend.

My sincere apologies. I know you are all working hard to try and help each other. It will be much easier as soon as we have the subforums set up.
Thank you.

A literal floating Navy hospital will be dispatched to New York City to help in the response to the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19.

Navy spokesperson Elizabeth Baker said the 1,000-bed hospital ship will be used to treat non-coronavirus patients to clear up space at area hospitals.

The Asbury Park Press was not able to get confirmation if patients from New Jersey hospitals will also be treated on the ship.

The ship is at Norfolk, Virginia, and will arrive at New York City some time in April.

The Comfort is a nearly 900-foot long converted supertanker with 12 operating rooms that can sustain up to 2,000 people on board, crew combined with patients.

Unfortunately, for the rest of us...some members of our society are just nasty. I was thinking about that very thing this morning. As I was washing the breakfast dishes in hot, soapy water. On the members of my immediate family who are lacking in respect for cleaning in general. When I go to a sisters house, I will not touch ANYTHING. Barely going inside the house as it is.
I stepped in to be live in caregiver for my elderly father. He has sporadic cleaning/hygiene. Some things yes, some things...ick. This new situation doesn't help.
Idk why any mom wants her child touching stuff nor why she thinks anyone wants to touch what her child touched. But we all see children opening & playing with toys on the toy aisles, lol. I would have promptly been relocated to a juvenile facility, that stuff did not fly with my mom.

Florida is going to see a huge spike in a week or two when testing starts.

And so will Ontario once all the snowbirds settle in and ignore the mandatory 14 day isolation requirement.

My apology to epiphany for removing posts due to no link. I came in mid-thread and did not realize you were summarizing a live briefing. Those deleted posts have been reinstated.

Hopefully the FDA is rewriting the rules for establishments serving-selling food/beverage.
There’s certainly room for improvement. I go condiment free when I eat out, the co Di ent bottles on tables petrify me. Idk how many touched them, I do see the busboys wipe them off with a dirty cloth.....the individual packets are also fear provoking, how many times did they get returned to the bin because they were not used, but handled? How do most open the packets? With their mouth. Then they move unneeded packets to the side with what? Their dirty hands. It goes on & on. I guess I’m lucky, I am and have always been paranoid so I’ve never gained wait from an incessant desire to grab food each time I’m out & about. Lol. Moo

I wish we knew how many patients over all states are in ICU or are on ventilators now. Did Cuomo say in his last PC?

Dr.Mark Siegel from NYC on Fox just now said that's important data to know as to how many ventilators are actually needed. He said even in NYC there are many who arent requiring ventilators so he believes governors may be wanting more ventilators than they may need which will cause drastic shortages in other needed hotspot areas in the country.

Does anyone know how many are in ICU or are on ventilators now in NY based on the total cases this far? TIA!

I think once that data becomes known the federal health experts can determine how may ventilators may be needed in areas hit hard by the virus such as if 1000 are required now, etc ...they can up it by using a formula to cover new cases based on how quickly its spreading in that area, and how many are requiring ventilators now.

Doesnt each state have a prepared state emergency fund in their state budget each year where they each stockpile needed items that may be needed for a pandemic like this one or items for other state emergencies?

It seems to me that each state would already have hundreds or thousands warehoused of ventilators or respirators depending on the size of the state,
in case of a state emergency just like this one? Especially since the coronavirus is not the first health pandemic we've faced.

Tia! It's just things I'm wondering about, and nothing more.

Jmho

@Gardenista I asked about this a few times on previous threads. Is it not criminal for a presumed 🤬🤬🤬’ or 🤬🤬🤬’ to be out and about?
We know this happens a lot, as one can find by googling. This virus should be no dif. If someone can be charged for spreading HIV, then charges should apply for spreading Covid.

I’m not sure how these one-time checks will work but it concerns me that there will be plenty of us who get them but don’t really need them. My dh and I probably fall into that category, thankfully, and we don't feel right viewing this money as a fun windfall and using it to buy a new “toy”when so many are struggling...although I suppose that’s the point of “economic stimulus.” But it still feels weird. I imagine others are in that position also. It would be nice to think of positive ways to use the money...

-Donate to local charities directly helping people...food bank, etc.
-Support local businesses (restaurants? hair dressers? etc) by buying gift certificates to use or give to friends.
-Divide the money (anonymously?) among friends who are struggling. (But if they receive low income benefits from social services, they will have to declare the gift and it might reduce their benefits like food stamps.)
-Buy food and other necessities for friends and/or strangers.
-Cover someone’s medical bill.

Other ideas?

My DD and her husband say they don't need the checks and will be donating them. They have some families in mind. My DD is also giving one of her employees rides to and from work. So that she doesn't have to take the bus. Every little bit helps.

This is a very informative article

Coronavirus and Cities: How to Protect Yourself - CityLab

Though there have been no known transmissions in restaurants, says Farley, employees have some control over public health. “I’ve seen a lot of food-service workers using gloves: That’s a good way of protecting themselves,” said Farley. “But those gloves can take the virus from money or a credit card, put it back on your food, and give it back to you. They don’t do anything to protect the consumer.” Having a healthy workforce helps the consumer and the broader community, but what he’s noting is that the outside of a glove can become as dirty as a hand very quickly.

If any of you see where masks are being made in AZ, please tag me. I now have a nurse friend there requesting masks as well.

This is a fabulous idea, Lilibet, thank you!

I actually did this with at least one, maybe both, of the stimulus checks issued in 2002 after Sept. 11. I was a federal employee who had no change in income due to the events. I forwarded the money to a non-profit I support.

And in these current times, your favorite non-profits, regardless of their focus, are probably receiving many fewer donations due to the understandable redirection of funds toward immediate health and safety actions.

There is a thing called "donor fatigue" which happens during hard times where people become overwhelmed with the many calls for help, and at some point can't continue to support whatever/whoever they initially supported.

Keep that in mind as you make your decisions about how to distribute these funds, if you are in a position to not need them to keep yourselves or your family afloat.
