BBM I know!
My daughter was afraid to go to the pharmacy wearing a mask for fear of being ”villainized” as a “carrier”. She has been isolated for several weeks now since she is at risk because of immunosuppressants first arthritis. I assured her that mask-wear was the new chic, and her dad and proudly wear our meager homemade masks when we venture out for food. I give virtual high fives to anyone and everyone wearing gloves and masks. I also told her to just assume we are ALL carriers, and act accordingly.

Actually, this seems to be cultural. In Vegas, Asians are all walking around with masks and gloves. Life as normal.

CNN)Remember the Louisiana pastor who defied the governor's order not to hold gatherings larger than 50 people?

He held services again on Sunday, and he plans to do so yet again on Tuesday night.
On Sunday, Pastor Tony Spell said, his Life Tabernacle Church in Baton Rouge drew about 1,000 people to its services, in part by busing people in from across five parishes.

Can LE not turn the buses around, or block them from leaving where pick up point?

Now is when you call the National Guard. If the governor signed an Emergercy Order, it's the governors call. National Guard is under the leadership and directed by the governor of the state.

Lets see what happens....could get interesting.

Moo...

Despite ongoing public health efforts, the opioid overdose crisis does not appear to be slowing down. The emergency of Covid-19 could worsen it if we do not preemptively develop and implement response plans.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention currently recommends social isolation as a key measure for individuals to prevent getting infected and to curb spreading it to others. Many patients taking medications to treat their opioid use disorder — methadone or buprenorphine — aren’t able to stay home because of government regulations that limit how these medications are prescribed and dispensed.

I agree that the our Asian culture was way ahead of this virus here in the US as they often wore protective masks during flu season. But I am proud to join them now, as are the all the different folks I see who are not Asian but are “masking up”.

Not to mention a renewed interest in bidets and how other cultures manage without toilet paper. Cultural diffusion, baby! :)

Moved me to tears....
Gov Andrew Cuomo always moves me to tears. He is so compassionate while being straight forward about everything.

He gets it honestly, from his father, a former NY governor.

"We believe in a single fundamental idea that describes better than most textbooks and any speech that I could write what a proper government should be: the idea of family, mutuality, the sharing of benefits and burdens for the good of all, feeling one another's pain, sharing one another's blessings - reasonably, honestly, fairly, without respect to race, or sex, or geography, or political affiliation."
Mario Cuomo

Governor Andy Beshear

If any of you need help explaining Covid to young children, our state has a juvenile video. Unlike Gov’ Cuomo, we don’t delve into the hard news. Several of my acquaintances stopped watching the updates, they take too long & a lot of the info is the redundant “wash your hands”,
So many think it is not a serious situation or he would get to it as soon as he gets on air. Idk, Jmo.

Oh wow, write that in stone.

Mardi Gras season in New Orleans started on January 6th and ended February 25th. Considering the first known case of Covid community spread in the US was on February 26th... what other events were shut down in the US in that time frame? Do tell.
I was thinking basically the same. I mean there is something going on most of January and February. The first cases were the latter part of February.
Feb. 26, 2020: 1st case of suspected local transmission in United States
Feb. 29, 2020: 1st death reported in United States

I wish there would have been a way TO KNOW how bad this virus was going to affect the whole world so quickly, but I do not think it was a great concern since it was not in our country. I think that is why our state is the fastest growing positive results in the world
because we were having basically a STATE party that millions attended through the 2 months.
I do remember our Governor closing schools immediately when we only had presumptive cases with no positives.

If you use Airbnb and hotels to house quarantined people, I don't want to stay there at a later date unless a deep clean is done. And we will never know for sure if it's been used for quarantined people or not. Maybe hotels and others need to list on a website that their facilities were used so we can stay away from them. It's better to not travel for the next 6 months or more.

MOO

i agree with you--- i am concerned about that cause we will eventually leave Florida
and go back to Michigan-- we drive about 700 miles the first day and stop when we
need to sleep--' i think i will call some hotels before we leave and ask if they had
quaranteend in their hotel

Sensational headline

Stay at home means that you can still go out to the bank and grocery stores.

Agreed. I'm in NYC and haven't left the apartment at all for a week. My sister is in Jersey, btw, and hasn't left in two weeks. We are both high risk and not playing around with this.

Those pictures do show crowds, and not necessarily at the grocery store. However, most people actually ARE staying in, and also it's important to remember how many millions live here. Even if the supermarket has restricted hours for seniors only, as in one of those pictures, that still will entail hundreds standing on line, close together. No one wants to, at all. It's just hard to avoid due to population density and having every store closed except for a few. I agree they should be standing in line six feet apart. I do also understand that there are some people, mainly younger, who are flouting the rules. But it is not that NYC in toto is flagrantly disobeying, IMO. We know we are the epicenter in the US.

Aww, I like it, especially the patriot part! There are so many governors who I really enjoy listening to or reading their tweets. And I'm learning so much more about different states.

Where and how to isolate is a huge gap in the system. We didn't know what to do with my son when he returned from international travel. He's staying at an Airbnb, friend and family are bringing him what he needs in terms of food and extras.

That gap needs to be addressed in every major city across the country fast. Hotel floors need to be reserved for self-isolators and quarantined people, and staff needs to be provided with education and health equipment to protect themselves. The government needs to pay for it at normal rates - not holiday rates.

The county Department of Health in our city announced that it will use our university's empty residence hall rooms for quarantines, for the public, and for health professionals (nurses and others) and for public safety officers, etc. The governor (Ohio) has also said that state universities would be used for this purpose, and negotiations are underway regarding the details.

'Teacher Parades' lift spirits, provide chance for teachers to connect with students during COVID-19 crisis

I love these stories. I hope this shows the rest of the world how we are dealing with this virus in our community, just like the Chinese showed us when they called out to each other from balconies and how the Italians graced us with their singing.

Abilene and Wylie Robotics Programs collaborate with Hendrick Medical Center creating automated bed tables
ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Abilene and Wylie ISD Robotics Programs are collaborating with Hendrick Medical Center, creating a safe way for nurses to deliver medications without having to step in a room.

High school students in Abilene are doing their part to protect nurses during the pandemic. They begin work on this project on Saturday and the robotic tables are ready to use today.

I’m very impressed that they got this idea and had it ready so quickly!

The outbreak was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020 by the World Health Organisation. It would be interesting to see how long it took various countries to comprehend the warning and take action. Most countries have pandemic protocols waiting for such an emergency, but there was too much time between knowing and acting.

Frustrating as he77.....we are now OVER 20 minutes into our evening presser & not one mention of new cases. Would any of you like this?
Two guy friends texted me to advise them if any “useful” info comes out, even though both tuned in, they can’t sit in front of the TV for an hour listening to people “talk”.
Moo
I wish he’d model his presser after Gov’’ Cuomo. I think it’d prove beneficial and many more Kentuckians would take this seriously. Jmo
