Liquor stores and medical marijuana dispensaries are considered essential, or life sustaining, in NJ.
Ours too.

https://www.ok.gov/able/documents/statement on delivery.pdf

The city of Moore deems the following to be essential businesses:

  • Gas stations (including auto repair facilities).
  • Banks and other financial institutions.
  • Medical facilities and health care operations (including all training and educational programs as well as home health workers, veterinarians and doctor's offices).
  • Laundromats (including dry cleaners and laundry service providers).
  • Pharmacies (including medical marijuana dispensaries).
  • Essential infrastructure (including construction of housing, industrial and commercial projects currently underway, as well as necessary associated professional services) and utilities.
  • Food and beverage providers offering curbside pickup, delivery, takeout or drive-thru service for consumption off premises.
  • Hardware stores, plumbers and electricians. Other service providers that will be providing necessary services to maintain the safety, sanitation and essential operation of residences and other essential businesses.
  • Educational institutions, for the purpose of facilitating distance learning.
  • Mail delivery facilities.
  • Child care facilities providing services that enable essential employees to go to work.
Essential activities that vulnerable residents may participate in include:
  • Errands to maintain health and safety.

I love these stories. I hope this shows the rest of the world how we are dealing with this virus in our community, just like the Chinese showed us when they called out to each other from balconies and how the Italians graced us with their singing.

The video of the self-isolating members of the Rotterdam Philharmonic playing together using video conferencing software is my favourite so far.

BBM I know!
My daughter was afraid to go to the pharmacy wearing a mask for fear of being ”villainized” as a “carrier”. She has been isolated for several weeks now since she is at risk because of immunosuppressants for arthritis. I assured her that mask-wear was the new chic, and her dad and I proudly wear our meager homemade masks when we venture out for food. I give virtual high fives to anyone and everyone wearing gloves and masks. I also told her to just assume we are ALL carriers, and act accordingly.

I agree that the our Asian culture was way ahead of this virus here in the US as they often wore protective masks during flu season. But I am proud to join them now, as are the all the different folks I see who are not Asian but are “masking up”.

I can so relate to these and other posts about wearing the surgical masks now. Here in NYC I am accustomed to the Asian community wearing masks anytime flu season comes around. We are used to a heterogeneous population, so no one thought much of it at all. Once Coronavirus became a bigger and bigger threat, I didn't want to use the mask I received ( I'm 62 with COPD), because the medical advice was not to wear it unless you were ill, which thank God I am not. Therefore, I thought I'd feel stigmatized if I wore it. But now so many people in my neighborhood are wearing it that the reverse is starting to happen...a "where's your mask?" mentality. I wore a mask the last time I went out, to the grocery store over a week ago, and felt that I was "in" with the aware community of mask wearers. Thank you to my Asian friends for helping to make mask wearing more acceptable in other communities!

Stay Safe, stay healthy, stay home, stay healthily bored!

a spring break student that went to FL is now back in KY & coronavirus positive.
One more death, “at least” 198 cases now, gov’ can’t confirm some. New labs are making it harder for him to collate the numbers.

If you use Airbnb and hotels to house quarantined people, I don't want to stay there at a later date unless a deep clean is done. And we will never know for sure if it's been used for quarantined people or not. Maybe hotels and others need to list on a website that their facilities were used so we can stay away from them. It's better to not travel for the next 6 months or more.

What about socks? I always got socks in my Easter basket. o_O

Job one has to be save lives

Proud to be a New Yorker! I hope my link works. Governor Cuomo has an important message for all to hear.

One morning when I was summarizing Gov Cuomo's morning update, I looked up at my TV and saw his always incredibly done Power Point presentation.

Sandwiched between his other key points was a bullet point that simply had one word after it:

- Baloney

He's been the best!

Of course we are out pacing Italy, Spain and France, look at the population differences:

France = 66.81 Million
Italy = 60.80 Million
Spain = 46.42 Million

USA = 327.17 Million

What would concern me is if we pass China because they have 1.38 Billion people.

Something is very wrong with how we are handling this if we overtake China.

China (mainland) cases
Mar 25
Confirmed
81,218

United States cases
Mar 25
Confirmed
55,200

Sadly, some people do not care, they are still out and about, I can hear cars outside (we live near a main road in the city) and take a "Rules are for other people" mindset.

Quoting myself, think maybe Mississippi should tighten up? They do border Louisiana, correct? (Geography is not my strong point). Maybe he thinks if Louisiana cases spread, which is likely, they will go the other way?
Louisiana is bordered by Mississippi to the east, Texas to the west, and Arkansas to the north. That ijit preacher now has enraged so many people that there’s a petition to shut him down. I would have thought that our governor would have done that already.
Pure Louisiana: who ya know & who ya.....
Local idiomatic expression. The mods will probably delete it.
CNN)Remember the Louisiana pastor who defied the governor's order not to hold gatherings larger than 50 people?

He held services again on Sunday, and he plans to do so yet again on Tuesday night.
On Sunday, Pastor Tony Spell said, his Life Tabernacle Church in Baton Rouge drew about 1,000 people to its services, in part by busing people in from across five parishes.

Can LE not turn the buses around, or block them from leaving where pick up point?

If I got socks in my Easter basket the Easter bunny wouldn't need toilet paper.

The outbreak was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020 by the World Health Organisation. It would be interesting to see how long it took various countries to comprehend the warning and take action. Most countries have pandemic protocols waiting for such an emergency, but there was too much time between knowing and acting.

At work, we started prepping how to move about 35,000 people online in January. When it became necessary on March 13, we were ready - smooth transition. Some people got it sooner than others, some national leaders got it sooner than others. Canada got it as soon as the Prime Minister's wife got it. That's good for Canadians.

i agree with you--- i am concerned about that cause we will eventually leave Florida
and go back to Michigan-- we drive about 700 miles the first day and stop when we
need to sleep--' i think i will call some hotels before we leave and ask if they had
quaranteend in their hotel

Can you buy a small tent and sleeping bags? Just rough it? Jmo

Lousiana, "Let the good times roll". Tragic.

I'm curious where that is happening. March 18, Canada announced that all returning international travellers with a cough or fever would not be allowed to board a plane. On March 19, in Melbourne, my son was asked how he felt, he said fine, and he was allowed to board. In LA, no one tested anyone getting off the plane, and no one tested anyone getting on a plane.

Canadians don't need to hide their symptoms because people in other countries would rather send them home than provide for their isolation, quarantine, or health care.

Most countries have pandemic protocols waiting for such an emergency, but there was too much time between knowing and acting.

I don't know about nations, but when I heard about the WHO deliberations around Jan 21, I inventoried our meds and other essentials and ordered some canned goods. Throughout first week of February, I advised students to do the same. I talked about why I thought water was not the thing to stock up on. Already, one student's mother had purchased as much TP as she could! That prompted me to get some too.

But even at the college, most people weren't paying attention (we anthropologists could speak of little else). The political science people were sending us all articles from their international journals.

The CDC knew. Center for Infectious Diseases knew. All the major hospitals in California and Massachusetts (and likely elsewhere) knew. But no one listens until things get bad.

We let our local pandemic protocols lapse about 6-7 years ago in my county, but the statewide protocol was supposedly still in place. Doesn't seem like there was much thought about stockpiling disposal medical technology.
