New Orleans is next coronavirus epicenter, catalyst for spread in south, experts say

New Orleans emerges as next coronavirus epicenter, threatening rest of South

(Reuters) - New Orleans is on track to become the next coronavirus epicenter in the United States, dashing hopes that less densely populated and warmer-climate cities would not be hit as hard by the pandemic, and that summer months could see it wane.

I need to thank @nyvictoria, @Sachi, @Love Never Fails and all the other people who have been thanking me for the post about the Holocaust survivor who said that there's nothing as wonderful as a boring day.

I've really received a lot of grateful comments about it, so I want to make sure that I deflect the sweet comments back to that Holocaust survivor's credit. I wish I could remember her name!
I heard her say that years ago, and I imagine she has passed by now, as she was quite elderly then.

However, it did make me learn how to do a signature! Hopefully her words will continue to be a blessing in such a frightening time as today. She endured far worse, and I thank you, unnamed Holocaust survivor, for your hard-earned wisdom.

Using a random selection of countries, this is what testing looks like per million.

I don't think we have to worry about that.
Most people that have their Income taxes direct deposit will have stimulus $$ direct deposit.
There is also Mobile banking and you can deposit into your account while sitting in your recliner.
There are ATM's , just wear gloves and have disinfected wipes to wipe down keyboard, ALONG WITH HAND SANITIZER.
For those that are not living in the digital world, the DRIVE THRUs are open at most financial institutions so you don't even need to get out of your car or go inside.
Again, there will NOT be a stampede at the Bank as we can all still do our banking in a SAFE and Healthy way.
What if you have moved but have not yet notified the IRS?

What if you chose to pay or get refund electronically in 2018 but changed your bank since 2018??? hmmm. complicated.

I worked for a CPA for years, working with submitting tax returns electronically. If you changed bank accounts, and didn't notify us, the bank, of course, rejected the refund and sent it back to the IRS. They in turn changed it to a paper check (which took much more time to receive). IMO this would also be the case. Also, f you moved, have you notified the post office with a change of address? In that case your mail will get forwarded to your new address, although I'm not sure if a government check would get automatically forwarded.

From an email from uk asda CEO-

  • Perspex screens will soon be fitted at checkouts, until then please keep your distance from our colleagues
  • Please only touch items you intend to purchase
  • Use cashless payments wherever possible - contactless limit will be increased to £45 from 1st April to make this easier
I am delighted the check out staff are getting perspex screens. I have been served by many older check out staff with zero protection and felt so sorry for them. Sitting ducks.

This is an awesome step! My husband (who is considered an "essential" worker, he does maintenance for apartments and rental houses) said weeks ago that offices, grocery stores, and other places should install these...it would cut down on a lot of germs being passed back and forth.

Well, has the Senate already voted and passed their Stimulus Bill so that it can go to the Congress and then the POTUS ? The fantastic speed with which these devoted Public Servants are helping the American public and American businesses, and helping the Nation, makes me so proud of them all, in both parties........moo
HAHA! Funniest thing I've read all day!

I agree that the our Asian culture was way ahead of this virus here in the US as they often wore protective masks during flu season. But I am proud to join them now, as are the all the different folks I see who are not Asian but are “masking up”.
Would love to know where to get some masks.

I think it is going to be terrible, IMO, at stores that cash checks like WalMart. Have you ever seen the lines of people cashing checks just on a regular pay day at walmart? A surprising amount of people don't use banks and just cash checks at walmart and other stores.
ITA and is the reason we are avoiding Walmart. Way too many people for our comfort level.

The stores are getting ugly according to my friends. Hugs to you all because we all need to buckle up because it will get more dire each day. :(
Hubby went last week and it was not bad.
I have to venture out tomorrow or Friday to pick up a few things so I am hoping what I need is in stock. I should call before I go LOL... no sense risking going out is they don't have what I am going out for.
I have been inside for 2 weeks now.
I am fortunate to still be able to work from home.
I am just starting to feel cooped in here though and think I will go for a walk in the morning just to get outside.

Laissez les bonne temps roulez or whatever version, Creole or Cajun, of what is now a death song
Yes. It’s my state. New Orleans is the Epicenter. It’s home to several colleges, 2 medical schools, 2 law schools, dental school, teaching hospitals, 2 pro sports teams, tourist hub with numerous museums, a large zoo, numerous conventions hosted weekly, an international airport, barge traffic via the Mississippi River and more. I-10 passes right through the city. New Orleans and south Louisiana has large families and multi-generational homes. We do have a joie de vivre, however we are more then Mardi Gras.

My SIL, a Lt. Firefighter/Paramedic has always told me it’s so important to place my DNR over my bed or in the most conspicuous space available to first responders. I couldn’t do it. I’ve talked with my granddaughters about it. I just couldn’t let them see it in my room every time they came in. My family does have the documentation along with an Advanced Directive by Proxy. They know when to pull it out (I hope). I’m hoping it doesn’t come to my decision that I must hang it up. There is the potential I will need to permanently remove that decision from their hands and hearts. They know I don’t want CPR. My extreme osteoporosis would assure the chest compressions would fracture my already weakened rib cage. The probability of puncturing my lungs has been discussed at length by medical professionals at many levels. It won’t end well. That’s not how I want to go. I’m struggling to find a balance of hope and reality. Some moments are better than others.

Great that they've upped the contactless limit to £45, too.
