Dr. Fauci answering questions after commercial break, CNN/TV

I hope PT really listens to Dr. Fauci because he is sticking to the facts and reality.

I don't see it as 'insane.' This same drug has been used for years by people with auto immune disease. No one is declaring it is a dangerous or toxic drug in those cases. The patients are happy with it and rely upon it's benefits.

Both China and France have used it with the C Virus, with some beneficial results. So why not test it on those with severe cases, to see if it is effective? What will a severely ill patient have to lose if there is no other treatment available?

There are patients who swear that this drug saved their lives recently. Some have done interviews. I saw a doctor interviewed, who was using it last month with great results, according to him.

I don't see anything in the above article that makes it seem like a 'crazy' idea to offer it to those in dire situations. JMO
False hope.....IMO, IMO of course

Just about every country affected is using that drug. Governor Cuomo has embraced it as well. It’ll be interesting to see some hard data in regards to how effective it ultimately is.

We’ll learn a lot from what happens in New York.

*Governor, not mayor.

I’ve rewatched “Silver Linings Playbook” twice this week. It’s trending on Netflix. Stay healthy my old friend. Peace.
You are in my heart. Always.

I indicated IMO on my post. She is a puppet, IMO, IMO
Dr Fauci rebuts that. He asked that the press STOP trying to pit him and the doctors against the President. He said the president listens to him and his data, has an open mind, and is flexible.

I do not think any of those esteemed medical professionals are puppets. JMO IMO

Fauci: Media should stop 'pitting' me against Trump

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci said Tuesday that he wishes the media would stop "pitting" his advice about the coronavirus against that of President Trump, encouraging people to "look ahead at the challenge we have together."

Fauci said that Trump does listen to his expertise and the opinions of other officials on the task force.

"The president has listened to what I have said and what the other people on the task force have said. When I have made recommendations he has taken them," Fauci added. "The idea of just pitting one against the other is just not helpful."

There is no doubt US is vastly underreporting as well, considering how difficult it is to get tested.

Yes. Although two of our most populated states are doing their best (California and New York). Everywhere, though, is limited by number of test kits.

China however, simply hasn't updated their province-by-province data - and that's their issue. They are deploying resources elsewhere and, well, the whole country is practicing social distancing and wearing masks, just not 'stay at home' as rigorously as some places.

The US, OTOH, is updating each state on a daily basis (some states are really lagging).

It's difficult to impossible to get tested in China, as well. And there are no public briefings nor does the public have anyone to write to, to get their tests. My healthcare provider sent very clear instructions today and thinks that they will be able to test anyone who meets a few simple criteria. I could go get tested if I wanted to, but I'd be crazy to do so. I would be exposing myself on the journey to the clinic, although my provider says they are working to get the system as contact-free as possible by next week.

If China has in fact managed stop CoVid19 to the degree its stats claim, then it's because the methods used in Wuhan are being used everywhere. I shudder to think about it.

Reminds me of an old joke about a person looking for keys under a streetlight. Not because they lost it there, but because they can see under a streetlight.
It's very unclear if malaria drugs do any good, but that's pretty much all we got. So we are using it before we even know if they do any good.

It’s not like this drug hasn’t been widely used for other things, so it’s side effects are well known.

Medical professionals across the world have decided that the risk of using them, is less than the cost of not using them.

The question is if it works, and to what extent. Anecdotal evidence says the answer is that it does work, but that’s not good enough.

We need hard data, and that will come.

It’s not the only protocol being used, so hopefully they can figure out soon what works best, so the mortality rate starts to come down.

Someone is saying Wolf Blitzer is on CNN saying California has the fastest growth rate of cases right now. Is Louisiana no longer in that #1 spot? Does anyone have the link for the site that has the most current data/stats about this type of thing? Thanks.

The last data I saw said the opposite. I will go check. Los Angeles County just got a bunch of tests available, and it really went exponential in terms of positive cases yesterday (and the Bay Area is exponential as well). Most other counties are flat, with low rates. Nothing on the state's on CoVid site yet, but I will check again.

Thank you! She was being somewhat insistent/argumentative about it. She lives in NY and seemed to believe NY has the fastest growth rate because of the highest # of cases etc. and I kept telling her we're talking about two different things. Then she switched to "Well, Wolf Blitzer was just on CNN and he said California has the highest growth rate [blah blah blah yada yada]." I thought maybe she misunderstood and he was saying CA has the highest growth rate in the US (vs. the world for Louisiana), but I'm not sure that would make sense either. I feel like someone posted sites with the most current stats/data on here before but I can't find any.

Unfortunately my son is still in Los Angeles and just extended his trip to Monday, when he'll return to NOLA (was supposed to go back tomorrow). I can't decide which is worse!

Never would I pit one against the other. Some folks state the facts, the others.....not so much.

Yea, this site is struggling finding pending tests.

The COVID Tracking Project

Wow - it's still got pretty good numbers for many states. 25,000 pending tests in California - those stats are going to make it look as if CoVid is rampaging across the landscape when, of course, we're just doing more testing.

I'm sitting here listening to the Grateful Dead farewell concert at Soldier Field (such a beautiful place) and using my calculator to get the number that matters to me (deaths per number tested).

We don't really know the death rates for this virus yet, our early numbers were based on China. Edited to check my math, it was out of control.

It's good we're testing people with less serious symptoms, of course - but if we are to go back to work, we need that antibody test (and people in the schools need both a live virus test and an antibody test because it turns out some people are still shedding live virus after they've recovered and have showing antibodies).

I do not trust her either. She is a player on the team and basks in the glow. Dr. Fauci can not be bought and he does not require fame. He will speak facts. Listen to the words....IMO, IMO
I am wondering why you are thinking that about her. Her credentials are impeccable. Look at this article by the Guardian...

She's a legend in the fight against HIV. Now Dr Deborah Birx is taking on Covid-19

She's a legend in the fight against HIV. Now Dr Deborah Birx is taking on Covid-19

Having gone head-to-head with global health leaders while overseeing a program responsible for saving millions of lives, Birx has become something of a legend in the global health community.

Now her task is to stop the spread of Covid-19.

“When it is a matter of making tough decisions, she will do it,” said Dr Carlos del Rio, a professor in the global health department at Emory University who has known Birx for more than 20 years. “And that, to me, is what we need right now.”

In 2014, Obama appointed her ambassador-at-large and global Aids coordinator. The latter role gave her control of the the largest effort by any country to stop a single disease, the President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief, or Pepfar. According to the state department, more than 17 million lives have been saved.

At one point, the World Health Organization called for people to stop using a HIV/Aids medicine. Scientists at Pepfar thought it was the wrong call. Birx listened to them, then ignored the WHO.

“At the end of the day, she was right,” Del Rio said. “This is the right decision. She listened to the data, she looked at the data and she said, ‘Let’s proceed.’ She is a bold leader. I have a lot of respect for her.”

I’m wondering if some of the more severe cases of CV could be related to smoking. I went through a phase a few years ago that I smoked cigarettes... only smoked a few in the evening, but still... had never smoked my whole life before that. I know, dumb, stupid, etc., etc.

That’s the only time I acquired a very, very bad case of bronchitis, to the point they did a chest X-ray because thought it might be pneumonia. I had never had bronchitis before in my life of almost 60 years. I stopped smoking after that. Haven’t had it since.

Just bringing all this up because I’ve been thinking about some variables that could factor in , especially in cases in younger age groups. Not just cigarette smoking, but smoking pot could possibly factor in as a variable as well, IMO.

Something else, perhaps to do with the level of exposure, as in how many virus cells they had contact with. Say for instance someone was around an infected person for several hours, versus someone around an infected person for only momentarily.

Or, say the route was via infected sputum versus touching a surface that had been touched by infected person... perhaps less virus cells in the latter? And would that affect of exposure determine at last to some degree the severity of illness and symptoms? It seems to me that it very well could, but just MOO.

What do you all think? Any feedback would be welcome. TIA
