Well, I sanitized my loaf of bread & left it on my covered porch coffee table. I just heard an odd sound so I rushed out to see what the heck was going on. I got out just in time to see the neighborhood thief (large German shep’) trotting away with my bread. My fault.

Sanitizing the loaf of bread gave me images of a raccoon sloshing a slice of bread around in a dish of water.

Hello WS friends, I am trying to stay strong as most of you are through this time. Helping my Dad through his cancer treatments - he was just out passing his extra fruits and veggies to people. Helping my RN daughter with 2 under school age children - she was in Wal mart to buy a pair of shoes for an elder patient. Most of all my best friend sister an RN in NC is sewing extra masks. We are close, we chat on the phone, laugh and cry at times. I can not believe how strong and unselfish she is. Together she and I are staying as positive as we can. I have not had a melt down until a person told me " I don't feel sorry for nurses or doctors etc... they chose the career, they can quit. " That statement is what makes me hurt the most. No one asks anyone to feel sorry during this hard time but please remember to pass on kindness and support.

that's disgusting that someone would say that
know that most of us do not think that
we are grateful for your daughter and all medical personnel
sending you hugs

NYC

"*Right now* there are 20 trucks on the road delivering protective equipment to New York City hospitals. They’re carrying:
• 1 million surgical masks
• 200,000 N95 masks
• 50,000 face shields
• 40,000 isolation gowns
• 10,000 boxes of gloves"

Tomorrow these same trucks are going out again with 800,000 more N95 masks, 2 million more surgical masks and hundreds more ventilators.

Coronavirus: NHS staff first to receive 'antigen testing' for COVID-19

Hundreds of frontline NHS staff will be tested to find out if they have coronavirus by the end of the weekend, as the government moves to ramp up testing for the disease among healthcare workers.

Michael Gove announced that increased "antigen testing", developed in partnership between UK businesses, research institutes and universities, will be rolled out "immediately" to those working in hospitals and social care.

Speaking at the government's daily coronavirus briefing, cabinet minister Mr Gove said that the testing would "dramatically" scale up next week, allowing those working in health and social care to "have security in the knowledge that they can safely return to work if their test is negative".

"This is absolutely crucial to our response to - and fight against - coronavirus," he added.

WAVES....Dr. Dena Grayson

"Many experts (including me) expect new hot zones to arise in the Southern Hemisphere during our summer/their winter, then the #coronavirus will boomerang back north next fall and cause a 2nd, much larger and more deadly wave of infections."

Bad news: 2nd wave likely to be worse (has ENTIRE flu season to spread).
Good news: researchers say this #coronavirus does NOT appear to be mutating significantly, so no "second strain" is anticipated (as yet) next fall.

#BREAKING: @HALcruises confirms 4 passengers aboard a #Florida-bound ship have died. Holland America says almost 150 more people have flu-like symptoms. 2 tested positive for #COVID19 #coronavirus @10NewsWTSP
4 passengers dead on Holland America cruise ship headed to Florida
Angelina Salcedo on Twitter

The Zaandam ship has been anchored off the coast of Panama awaiting permission to travel through the Panama Canal on its way back to Florida.

Did I read correctly the other day 45 cruise ships tested positive for CV?

Looking for link

——

While I’m looking for that, here’s an updated CDC report from yesterday on cruise ships, not sure if already posted:

https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/pdfs/mm6912e3-H.pdf

“Summary
What is already known about this topic?

Cruise ships are often settings for outbreaks of infectious diseases because of their closed environment and contact between travelers from many countries.

What is added by this report?

More than 800 cases of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases occurred during outbreaks on three cruise ship voyages, and cases linked to several additional cruises have been reported across the United States. Transmission occurred across multiple voyages from ship to ship by crew members; both crew members and passengers were affected; 10 deaths associated with cruise ships have been reported to date.

What are the implications for public health practice?

Outbreaks of COVID-19 on cruise ships pose a risk for rapid spread of disease beyond the voyage. Aggressive efforts are required to contain spread. All persons should defer all cruise travel worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I think it should be stated as such. IMO

Yes, everyone is free to hold their own opinion and yes, it should be stated as such, but the question is: is it a worthwhile opinion? Opinions don't affect facts, but facts should affect opinions. When we are flooded with so much information about Covid, it's important to know the difference. moo ;)

Lol, nurses don't "quit"!
If they were quitters, they'd have never made it through nursing school.
My class started out with 70.
1st night we got 7 HOURS of homework, only 40 showed up the next day. As time went on, bedpans, watching a 6 hour bowel surgery on a elderly woman who had an epidural and ativan, but was awake. She would wake up every now and then and ask if she was still alive.
Witnessing patients die and going to watch autopsies.
Being forced to take the stairs and never use an elevator unless with a patient and having to stand up whenever a doctor entered the nurses station, regardless of the number of chairs...
We graduated 18!
Moo
I'm retired now, but nurses rock!

All opinions are worthwhile, as everyone here is valuable. You can always click on a poster's name then "ignore" if you feel they aren't worthwhile. Jmo :)

It is wise to do your own research on any article printed by the Daily Mail. Moo

Healthcare workers in New York City are being told to keep returning to work, even if they have tested positive for the coronavirus, as the city's hospitals battle against the worst outbreak in the United States with 23,112 infections and 365 deaths as of early Friday morning.

I wish the healthcare workers could go on strike until they get the protection equipment they need. Nobody should be needlessly dying because of a lack of equipment at their work. It is inexcusable.

On a positive note, I have not gotten 1 robo call in a week! They must all be at home too!
Moo

Me neither! I haven't been threatened with arrest for nearly 2 weeks.

I’m so glad Le Le and her kittens survived and they had food and water during their ordeal.

It is great to post a story about this terrible crisis that isn’t a tragedy for once.

How close do you all live to the suburbs? The reason I ask is that we live on a small acreage and those in our 'hood with horses are going to do a little parade for us at 6 PM tonight so families can come out to their front porches and wave. Kids of all ages love horses. We'll be in our porch rockers with a cocktail.

JMO
This sounds amazing - what a great community! Enjoy.

People, don't leave food outside unless you have a garage you can close shut.
LOL.

Me too. I rolled my eyes at myself this morning as I caught myself thinking, ‘oh, but I want to make soup - I need a pot of basil!’
I find myself constantly having to remind myself of @cody22’s post from the other day, ‘I have enough food and TP, I have enough money to pay the bills’
Adjusting to the new normal is sometimes hard...but I/we have so much to still be grateful for.

So true. I just dropped off a lot of stuff to one of our stores and am headed to another right now. Most of what I dropped off was food to our employee break room so they don’t have to worry about bringing breakfast, lunch or dinner during this time. Heard a few grumbles about having to be at work but all I could think was “me too, but I’m extremely grateful we all still have a job and are able to be working”
