@MimosaMornings are you still staying with your dad? How are you sheltering him from people? Best wishes.
I’m so sorry @LadyL
Things are so sad and depressing right now.
We had to make that decision recently and the nurse said to post it above the bed which we didn’t do. It’s on an exterior door so he doesn’t see it everyday.

I wonder how many 9/11 first responders with lung issues end up in hospital.
"A New York City fire marshal sickened at Ground Zero after the 9/11 terror attacks has died of COVID-19 complications, according to reports."

"He had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and reduced lung function after working at Ground Zero following the 9/11 terrorist attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center, according to the paper."
RIP John Knox, age 83

The number of cases continues to rise daily in my state. It was announced today that schools will remain closed for the rest of the school year - some people are angry about that. I don’t understand them!

"JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On Friday morning, the Florida Department of Health said 2,900 residents or visitors to the state have now tested positive for the new coronavirus, another 30% increase over the DOH’s data from the same same time Thursday. The state also reported another seven deaths overnight."

Florida’s number of coronavirus cases jumps another 30% in 24 hours

Check out the projections for Florida - might need some adjustments.

Kids are not the only ones who are potentially carrying/ spreading the virus. What about the adults? Are they somehow exempt from spreading the disease? Could the able bodied adults possibly stay home, and order their loaf of bread online, instead of going to the store?

We live an hour from a city. Walmart, Amazon and Sam's Club have very limited items that can be mailed from online orders. No bread, snacks, canned items, of course refrigerated items and cleaning items. LOL, cotton towels and deodorant are plentiful though but not much of a dinner. (They taste awful).

All walk ins. Inside Walmart :(
Oh boy. I wonder if his bank will eventually close, allowing the ATM and drop slot for transactions?

Just curious........ I haven't heard "lines at banks" too much so far.. Is this to get some cash in the pockets, or is this that "Western distrust of Government" thing?? Ignorant East coaster asking...

It's recommended to have some cash for a regional emergency. I guess this hearkens back to some earthquakes, at least for us in California, because power went out. Most stores are in fact discouraging cash.

I think the thing is really about using farmers' markets, roadside vendors (there are many), and so on. I live about a mile from a cash only fruit stand...it's still open and it's open-air, so even better.

Maybe some people want it for bribes. Loo roll bribes, as they would say in Jolly Olde England.

New measures: These are the circumstances in which people will be permitted to leave their homes

(Ireland)

THE GOVERNMENT HAS introduced a raft of restrictive new measures to contain the spread of Covid-19.

The Taoiseach announced the new measures in a press briefing at 8.30pm tonight, and they are due to come into effect at midnight.

The announcement followed fresh advice from public health officials.

People are being told to stay at home for the next two weeks, until Easter Sunday 12 April.

We’re to stay at home in all circumstances, except in the following situations:

  • To travel to and from work in circumstances where the work is in an essential health, social care and other essential service and the work cannot be done from home
  • To shop for essential food and household goods or collect a meal
  • To attend medical appointments and collect medicines and other health products
  • For vital family reasons, such as providing care to children, elderly or vulnerable people, but excluding social family visits
  • To take brief individual physical exercise within your locality, which may include children from the household (e.g for a run or walk with/without dog) within 2km of the home (i.e within half an hour from the home) adhering to strict 2 metre social distancing measures
  • For farming purposes – i.e. food production and/or care of animals
All public or private gatherings of any number of people are prohibited.

‘Cocooning’ will be introduced for those over 70 and people who are extremely vulnerable to the disease.

Additionally a further range of non-essential shops and services are to be closed and everyone who can work from home must – excluding essential workers and workers in essential government, utility or other specified functions.
