Dr. Anthony Fauci, speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, offered his prognosis as the federal government weighs rolling back guidelines on social distancing in areas that have not been as hard-hit by the outbreak at the conclusion of the nationwide 15-day effort to slow the spread of the virus.

“I would say between 100,000 and 200,000 cases,” he said, correcting himself to say he meant deaths. “We're going to have millions of cases.” But he added , “I don’t want to be held to that” because the pandemic is “such a moving target.”

Fauci said he would only support the rollback in lesser-impacted areas if more testing is in place to monitor those areas. He said “it’s a little iffy there” now.

Dr. Deborah Birx, head of the White House coronavirus task force, said parts of the country with few cases so far must prepare for what is to come. “No state, no metro area, will be spared,” she said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Fauci predicts at least 100,000 coronavirus deaths in US

Yeah, walk it back, Cuomo.
Apparently some entity in the tri-states area ordered these supplies because they were not being supplied by the feds. Future supplies by this distributor, according to the Admiral, are going to other areas.
IMO

Everyone, I just pulled two ticks from my horse, just want to remind everyone they are in season, we sure don’t need another health scare or host of symptoms. So check yourself after being outdoors, as well as your furry friends.

The article says he flew to Mexico on Mar 13th, sounds like he picked it up traveling or brought it with him? Where did he travel from?

I have relatives in their 70's in 4 places in the USA. My relatives in Alaska are as frightened as I am, and haven't left their rural house for 2 weeks, banking in person there is by appointment only. My relatives in the mid west where the virus has already hit, say they are "being careful", yet go regularly to shop in a huge food store, one family member comes and goes from their job, and they see their grandchildren. My other relatives in the NW say they will do whatever the governor says to do. So even within my own family there is a range of reactions, for instance I am way ahead of what any governor is saying.
I am petrified, I live in a very rural area, town of about 500, and I leave my house, in my car, only to go hiking where there are no people at all, or to the corner store to get dog food and chicken every few days. It's a tiny store, I stand out on the steps about 8 feet away from the counter, and tell her what I need, I actually hold my breath while in the little store and have her put it on my account instead of having to exchange money. Then, lol, I kind of reach in and snatch the bag and wash it all when I get home. I leave the non food items out in the sun for hours, turning them over.
It's great living in a rural area, but it also means that if the virus ramps up here there will be few beds and probably they will discriminate against older folk.
Thank you very much. It is interesting hearing the first hand perspectives around the country...and just shows how big and diverse this country is! I try to take in "where people live" who speak on these threads..... and have felt a sharp absence from Western States, excluding CA, WA, OR and AZ..... So interesting what you said about Alaska...so widespread a population but such fears.

Dr. Anthony Fauci said “bottom line” Gov. Andrew Cuomo has to have the ventilators he needs to treat people stricken with the coronavirus in New York as it struggles with the largest number of cases in the nation.

“One way or another, he needs the ventilators that he needs and hopefully we will get him the ventilators that he needs. They may be closer to him that is realized but if they’re not, we’ll get them there. And if they are we’ll try to get him access to the ones that are there, Fauci said on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday. “Bottom line, he’s got to have the ventilators. Period.”

Fauci, an infectious disease expert who serves on the White House coronavirus task force, was responding to Cuomo’s plea for the federal government to supply 30,000 ventilators as the number of sick New Yorkers is expected to increase.

There are a lot of different calculations. My experience, I tend to believe Gov. Cuomo,” Fauci said.

He said there are reports that the ventilators are available but need to be made accessible, “we just need to connect the dots to get them accessible.”

I don't think it's going to pan out to enforce travel restrictions only from hotspot locations - too unconstitutional. Someone pointed out that not filtering and just making a flat rule for any state may be ok, but face legal battles. Curious if a middle ground would just be border checks for symptoms, or when those 5 min tests are readily available? California used to do border checks for illegal fruit (they may still do that). To me, that's not much different than making the virus a forbidden fruit. You want to cross the border, shed the virus first as it's not native to the state.

Each locality will need to protect themselves, within the limits of the law. Moo..

LE drive though at motels and hotels parking lots.

LE can and should report these folks directed to the local health dept to monitor under self isolation.

Hotel staff can and should refuse to service those from out of state without PPE. Employees can report to OSHA.

Hotels can chose to close on a moments notice. Many small towns the local hotel owners closed last week to protect the community.

Use SM to alert potential risks. I'm certainly not going to support any business that puts local employees at risk, not a restaurant or hotel.

There are many ways localities can protect themselves from out of town residents and non complaint locals.
Many small communities have been working for weeks, publicly and behind the scenes.

Moo..

Great suggestion. I found a tiny little tick crawling on my PJ’s when I woke up this morning! Skin crawl! Linens went immediately into the wash. I’m sure my baby Daisy brought it in with her from the yard but YIKES!

These Axios interviews with the admiral from FEMA are fantastic, finally someone else in the Fauci mode =straight talker.
Fixing America's broken coronavirus supply chain
The senior Navy officer now in charge of fixing America's coronavirus supply chain is trying to fill the most urgent needs: ventilators and personal protective gear. But barely a week into his role at the Federal Emergency Management Agency, he's still trying to establish what's in the pipeline and where it is.

Driving the news: "Today, I, as leader of FEMA's supply chain task force, am blind to where all the product is," Rear Adm. John Polowczyk tells Axios.

Why it matters: Polowczyk hears the calls from Congress, governors and medical equipment suppliers who want the federal government to nationalize the supply chain using the Defense Production Act — but he argues that's not the right move this far into the crisis.

  • "They want me to do all the buying, all the distributing, and all the allocation," he says.
  • But the nation's medical supply chain consists of six or seven major distributors with 600–700 distribution nodes around the country.
  • "I'm not going to re-create that," he said. "I'm looking to break down barriers ... to help them feed product where it needs to go."

Bless him. Give him all the help that he needs to do this. Maybe every state should assign a staffer.

What about the reat of the US. We re a small town and not receiving any PPE from our state government.

Everything is going to NY and this state doesn't even have mandatory shelter in place. They are threatening to sue other states for those traveling into our areas, they REFUSE to self isolate for 14 days. We are trying to protect yourselves, from a population who refuses to comply with CDC recommendations and a Governor that gets everything because he's screaming to the press.

The residents of NY have the same blood as in my body, we are all equal!!! I'm feed up with how special NY is.

NO New Yorker is more important than any other human being!!!

Moo...

Again, it's up to each State to obtain PPE and equipment. Instead of pointing fingers and blaming another actively working Governor, reach out to your Governor and ask him why he isn't obtaining these items for the residents of your State.

The federal government said they are not a "shipping clerk" and put the responsibility onto the Governors to find the items needed and organize a taskforce on their own.

President Trump On Supplying Governors: 'We're Not A Shipping Clerk'

I just read the Pope’s new speech. Not a religious person, I still find comfort in his words.
Read: Pope Francis’ Urbi et Orbi address on coronavirus and Jesus calming the storm

I am thinking about the human duty of the priests - to comfort, while they are scared.

Through the work at my tree, I connected with my two second aunts living in Russia. One of them is the wife of the priest whose spiritual father. Alexander Men, probably would deserve a thread on Websleuth. Anyhow, everyone past 65 is not allowed to leave the houses, but the priests still have sermons, and funerals, and lots of other functions. Many of them are old and immunocompromised.

And we are approaching Easter, of course it would be better to have all sermons online, but I see issues with this, too.

My mom just finished her virtual Mass and thought it was great. They put the camera right where she sits in church so the view was perfect.

Even the children have big hearts during this stay-at-home.

MEDFORD LAKES, N.J. -- Nora H is a young girl of many talents. The 6-year-old is somewhat of an entrepreneur, making jewelry to sell to neighbors. That's how she funded her latest big idea in the face of COVID-19.

When she found out the annual community Easter Egg hunt may be canceled, she started to share her other talent with the community: painting rocks.

It's a hobby she has loved for "years and years and years," she said, which is roughly half of her life so far.

On her Facebook page, Nora's Rocks, she announced that she would organize a "rock hunt" around town and invited everyone to participate.

6-year-old creates social distance substitute for Easter egg hunt

Very cute: a 6 year old talking about loving something "for years and years and years".

This is my state. I have not problem with other states limiting and or preventing our citizens from visiting other states during the pandemic. I personally have no problems with other states do this during this overwhelming pandemic. The individual State Departments Health are struggling to contain its own issues.

It's against the 4th Amendment of the Constitution. Rhode Island pulled their road stops after it was brought to her attention.

Cuomo said today during the press conference that he did not know that Florida was also breaking the 4th Amendment and said he would address it later today. I expect those roadblocks will be coming down soon, too.
