Kansas governor, announcing stay-at-home order: "While I left these decisions to local health departments as long as possible, the reality is that the patchwork approach that has developed is inconsistent and is a recipe for chaos."

I wish the South Carolina governor would realize his patchwork approach is equally disastrous, if not more so. I'm afraid he's going to wait to act until it's far too late. I just don't understand his lackadaisical attitude.

okay- so now i am freaking out: i go to Walgreens to get a few things-- and this guy comes kind of close to me (in front of me) and tells me I am beautiful --- normally that would be a nice thing to hear ( though i am by no means beautiful)-- anyway, now i am freaking out because he got way too close -close enough to breathe on me---- Oy Vay!!! I don't think it is a huge risk but it is a risk to have someone too close to you with their breath-- I am a person at high risk- elderly with asthma----

i hear ya... i just hope you scrubbed ferociously when you got to your car or home. I felt it recently in a store too...no gooey comments...but the young kid disinfecting the floors in my Winn Dixie just felt soooooooo close. All I think anymore is "carrier carrier" I really do gargle with mouthwash and sanitize my hands before and after any entry into a store! Probably have to give up the visits all together with whats coming in this next week.

Southeast Michigan is burning': Michigan's coronavirus case count doubles every 3 days
How widespread coronavirus is in Michigan is unknown, but what we do know is that the official case count in the state is doubling every third day. Coronavirus cases doubling every 3 days as surge hits Michigan
Sick people fill intensive care units of already overtaxed southeastern Michigan hospitals at a pace of about 100 new coronavirus patients a day.

So far, 111 Michiganders have died, and at least 4,650 had confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of Saturday afternoon, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services.

How widespread the virus really is, and how many people have contracted it, but don't have confirmation through testing, remains unknown.

Access to tests and testing supplies remain very limited in Michigan, which has conducted 15,282 coronavirus tests on a population of nearly 10 million since late February in the state's Department of Health and Human Services labs, hospitals and commercial labs.

What we do know is that the official coronavirus case count is currently doubling about every three days in Michigan.

At this rate, Michigan could reach 10,000 cases on Wednesday, and surpass 25,000 on Sunday, if the growth rate doesn't slow, and the state is able to test enough people accurately to assess the caseload.

Medical plane reportedly used for coronavirus response in Philippines 'caught fire and exploded,' American among 8 dead

An aircraft that's been used as an air ambulance in the Philippines as the country deals with the coronavirus outbreak caught fire while attempting to take off for Japan on Sunday, killing all on board, including an American, according to officials.

The aircraft, a Lion Air plane, was bound from Manila to Haneda Airport in Tokyo with eight people on board when it caught fire at the end of the runway at Manila International Airport.

"There were no survivors," Manila airport general manager Ed Monreal said at a news conference.

From my local news. And it seems not so long ago that the WA nursing home cases made world news. Now it’s really reaching home.

“Additionally, fifteen residents at the Brighton Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Beaver County have tested positive for COVID-19, according to a release from the facility.

At the nursing home, officials said several other residents were tested but were negative for coronavirus.

The facility had its first days a few days ago, and within 48 hours, there are now 15 positive cases. Five of those residents are at Heritage Valley Hospital because they were having significant symptoms and respiratory problems.”

I feel for the cruisers, taking a trip that they probably saved for for a long time and then to have this happen. It does seem that FL is prepared, thank goodness.
I am comprehend how scared these cruisers are.

Well, lets hope FL is prepared for a boat load of infected passengers that are NOT US citizens. This cruise started in Chile.

Don't be screaming you need PPE and ventilators when the Governor could have stopped it. He may not have the authority but the State Health Commissioner in ANY State CAN quarantine, close any and all facilities, etc. You would be surprise must how much power the have.

Today. Waiting for next week. There are 10 million situations now, that are almost impossible to solve. The biggest elephant in the room, is going to be the jail and prison population.

And the ongoing issue of people who can travel to the United States, from foreign countries, or people in the United States, who travel to areas with fewer infections.

It is interesting, that people in the State of Montana are required to "Stay at Home", but a traveler from NYC could check into a local hotel.

i am wondering how those Western states are going to handle. They can require a 14 day quarantine though, can't they. Florida has this going on right now... I have really felt there is no way to actually manage it though... In other words, if you tell someone they "have to quarantine, where do they go, who checks on them etc".

The data, and mixed messages from the media, news, government officials is conflicting. Right now, all of my kids, in their 20's, are out working in the community. And wondering about their safety.

The "good" news, is that the ones who were laid off, got hired at other jobs, immediately. My son, who was working as a chef, is now enrolled in CDL training, he got a huge sign on bonus, paid training, and an older retired driver who is going to go on a few trips with him.

I just read the Pope’s new speech. Not a religious person, I still find comfort in his words.

I am thinking about the human duty of the priests - to comfort, while they are scared.

Through the work at my tree, I connected with my two second aunts living in Russia. One of them is the wife of the priest whose spiritual father. Alexander Men, probably would deserve a thread on Websleuth. Anyhow, everyone past 65 is not allowed to leave the houses, but the priests still have sermons, and funerals, and lots of other functions. Many of them are old and immunocompromised.

And we are approaching Easter, of course it would be better to have all sermons online, but I see issues with this, too.

I did watch the Pope’s special blessing and prayers. It was truly comforting in these troubled times.

Just wanted to update you all with some good news! My daughter and SIL had their baby. Welcome baby Willa! Mom and baby are well. She had her last night and hopes to go home this evening if all goes well. Of note, her husband was able to be there with her.
Her doctor said it was a good thing the baby came now. She figures by next week they may even restrict partners in the OB ward as Michigan is having a horrible surge in cases.

Oh - congratulations! It must have been a worrying time, but now all the fun begins (especially for Grandmas and Grandpas). Willa is such an adorable name. Baby Willa.

Between my husband and I we have family in many states: NY, ND, NC, AZ, OH, MN, IL, CA, WI, NC, LA, TX, CO, SD our close relatives. My head was spinning so I had to go through my thoughts and prayers. My niece in WI is having her first baby and I won't go on lol. I feel better. We want everyone to be safe not only in the US.
