Trump working with Ohio gov. to get FDA approval on expansion of mask sterilization technology

According to the governor, the FDA has authorized Columbus-based company Battelle to sterilize 10,000 surgical masks in Ohio each day.

However, the company has the ability to sterilize up to 160,000 masks per day in Ohio alone.

The Governor’s Office says this prevents Batelle from being able to send its “groundbreaking technology” to other areas impacted by the coronavirus, such as New York.

“The FDA’s decision to severely limit the use of this life-saving technology is nothing short of reckless,” said Governor DeWine. “Battelle’s innovative technology has the capability to protect healthcare professionals and first responders in Ohio and across the country, but in this time of crisis, the FDA has decided not to support those who are risking their lives to save others. This is a matter of life and death. I am not only disappointed by this development, but I’m also stunned that the FDA would decline to do all it can to protect this country’s frontline workers in this serious time of need.”

Batelle had intended to send one sterilization machine to New York City and Stony Brook, NY which would have allowed for the sterilization of up to 160,000 surgical masks for New York’s healthcare workers each day. They also wanted to send them to Washington state and the Washington D.C. metro area.

I hope they can get this cleared up with the FDA. With this sterilization process each mask can be used up to 20 times!

Well, lets hope FL is prepared for a boat load of infected passengers that are NOT US citizens. This cruise started in Chile.

Don't be screaming you need PPE and ventilators when the Governor could have stopped it. He may not have the authority but the State Health Commissioner in ANY State CAN quarantine, close any and all facilities, etc. You would be surprise must how much power the have.

Statutes & Constitution :View Statutes : Online Sunshine
ETA... This is directly from the Code for State of Florida

381.00315 Public health advisories; public health emergencies; isolation and quarantines.—The State Health Officer is responsible for declaring public health emergencies, issuing public health advisories, and ordering isolation or quarantines.

[snipped]
4) The department has the duty and the authority to declare, enforce, modify, and abolish the isolation and quarantine of persons, animals, and premises as the circumstances indicate for controlling communicable diseases or providing protection from unsafe conditions that pose a threat to public health, except as provided in ss. 384.28 and 392.545-392.60. Any order of the department issued pursuant to this subsection shall be immediately enforceable by a law enforcement officer under s. 381.0012.
This information you are stating is NOT true. There are lots of Americans. They have transferred the healthier to a second boat. Of course this is a nightmare TO Florida, but all these people on that boat are living a MUCH greater nightmare. Have a heart, and try to set up the best possible solution. AND the cruise lines are willing to put up most of the transferring costs.

Of course the Broward County Commissioners are in panic....but this was just printed within the last couple of hours. This can be handled.
But while Udine (a county commissioner) supports refusing to let the ship dock, Commissioner Mark Bogen said Sunday afternoon he has another proposal: Let the passengers off at Port Everglades, then take them by bus to the Homestead Air Reserve Base in Miami-Dade County to be quarantined.

“We protect Broward County residents and let these people off the ship,” he said of his idea. “The feds put up the resources ... That protects Broward residents, it doesn’t put a strain on our resources and it lets the people come in.”

This is one of many reasons why New York is the most prepared State in the USA to handle this crisis.
Well, they seem to be dropping the football on keeping people alive and uninfected by the TV body counts......moo

You reminded me. Is there ANY country that has enough ventilators?

I would think not. Which is why every nation should be trying to slow this thing down.

I do not think martial law should be needed - anywhere, if people can become educated about their health needs. I am often overly optimistic though. In my own city, people really are obeying the rules - those people you see on the beach are Out of Towners.

(There's no one at a little beach near us...maybe 1-2 people at a time in the early morning...)

What ever happened to 'err on the side of caution'?
But this just begs my question from the get-go. HOW did Rand Paul even qualify for getting a much needed test in the first place. Something stinks here to me....not if it was determined that all of Congress should..but WHY did he have friends in high places....oh yeah, right!1 Guess he's a doctor..with priviledge!

It's against the 4th Amendment of the Constitution. Rhode Island pulled their road stops after it was brought to her attention.

Cuomo said today during the press conference that he did not know that Florida was also breaking the 4th Amendment and said he would address it later today. I expect those roadblocks will be coming down soon, too.
I totally understand this, however during this pandemic, I believe more drastic measures need to be explored. I think Cuomo needs to worry about his state. He’s got enough on his plate. Possibly more action needed to be taken when people were strolling the sidewalks and not abiding by the 6 ft. rule. I appreciate that the New Orleans police are contemplating actions against the leaders of the group second-lining down the streets. New Orleans is rapidly becoming an epicenter for Covid-19.

SOUTHERN OREGON (@kodi and others)

Jackson County—19 confirmed cases as of Sunday morning

This is an increase of 6 or 11 depending on who is reporting. We now have the largest number of confirmed cases in Southern Oregon, not a distinction I want. Our county has conducted 1216 tests which is the third highest number in the state, only behind two very populous counties around Portland. I’m impressed, and I expect more confirmed cases will come from those tests. Jackson County is rural, but is the sixth largest in the state and the most populous county in Southern Oregon where the largest hospital is. This may account for the number of tests.

Oregon has conducted 11,426 tests. There are 548 cases and 13 deaths as of today.

Especially since he said he did not meet the criteria. Of course he has a lot of friends in medical field, as you prob know. Since he’s a doctor, he mighta ordered a few kits.
But this just begs my question from the get-go. HOW did Rand Paul even qualify for getting a much needed test in the first place. Something stinks here to me.

Again, it's up to each State to obtain PPE and equipment. Instead of pointing fingers and blaming another actively working Governor, reach out to your Governor and ask him why he isn't obtaining these items for the residents of your State.

The federal government said they are not a "shipping clerk" and put the responsibility onto the Governors to find the items needed and organize a taskforce on their own.

President Trump On Supplying Governors: 'We're Not A Shipping Clerk'

The NY Governor didn't get those supplies. Now he says FEMA shipped them.

Each state is working to get supplies. ALL the supplies are being pulled to NY and the rest of us are doing without.

The NY Governor is doing NOTHING but screaming on TV. He hasn't even called for a shelter in place , or enforced any tyoe of social distancing. He spends his time grandstanding for supplies. FEMA delivered 4k ventilators and the Governor was still screaming. They had been in the NY emergency supply warehouse since Tues.

Nope not impressed and see why NY is the hotspot.

We all have the right to freedom of movement but we also have the right to bear arms and protect ourselves. Almost every famous person, movie star, Corp CEO has a team of armed private security. As long as you have a license to carry a gun, we can and will protect ourselves.

Moo...

A corona virus response plane crashed in Manila.

Plane Catches Fire at Manila Airport, Killing All 8 Aboard
A plane carrying eight people, including an American and a Canadian, burst into flames Sunday while attempting to take off from Manila’s airport on a flight bound for Japan, killing all those on board, officials said.

The Westwind 24 plane, which was carrying six Filipino crew members and the American and Canadian passengers, was bound for Tokyo on a medical mission when it caught fire near the end of the main runway, Manila airport general manager Ed Monreal said.
