There is another standard of living for the wealthy, celebrities, politicians: there always has been and there always will be; that is why i don't get my drawers in a knot over it. i know it is just the way it is. it will never change.

okay- so now i am freaking out: i go to Walgreens to get a few things-- and this guy comes kind of close to me (in front of me) and tells me I am beautiful --- normally that would be a nice thing to hear ( though i am by no means beautiful)-- anyway, now i am freaking out because he got way too close -close enough to breathe on me---- Oy Vay!!! I don't think it is a huge risk but it is a risk to have someone too close to you with their breath-- I am a person at high risk- elderly with asthma----
I think you are probably attractive also...... Did you have a lot of toilet paper, coffee, and cigarettes in your shopping basket ?... You gotta watch out for those smooth talkers, my Mom always told my little sister.....moo

Just wanted to update you all with some good news! My daughter and SIL had their baby. Welcome baby Willa! Mom and baby are well. She had her last night and hopes to go home this evening if all goes well. Of note, her husband was able to be there with her. Her doctor said it was a good thing the baby came now. She figures by next week they may even restrict partners in the OB ward as Michigan is having a horrible surge in cases.

Congratulations!!! Glad all are doing well.

This made me laugh, it’s a poll conducted by our local ABC affiliate a couple days ago. Math is hard.

I don't think it's going to pan out to enforce travel restrictions only from hotspot locations - too unconstitutional. Someone pointed out that not filtering and just making a flat rule for any state may be ok, but face legal battles. Curious if a middle ground would just be border checks for symptoms, or when those 5 min tests are readily available? California used to do border checks for illegal fruit (they may still do that). To me, that's not much different than making the virus a forbidden fruit. You want to cross the border, shed the virus first as it's not native to the state.

Many states already have border checkpoints. They can check for whatever each state says to check for. So while California might not close borders, the line to get in could be purty darned long.

When the 5 minute tests (and the antibody tests) become more widely available (two months from now?) then things can get back to normal.

Fortunately, most people from Nevada and Arizona know there's no point in fleeing to more-populous California. Oregon apparently has the lowest number of hospital beds per capita (in the nation), but the far north of California isn't exactly well-equipped for medical emergencies either. It's a long drive from southern Oregon to San Francisco or Sacramento, and then many hoops to jump through to get treatment.

Can't wait for the antibody tests, but that's much lower on the list of priorities right now.

Well, lets hope FL is prepared for a boat load of infected passengers that are NOT US citizens. This cruise started in Chile.

Don't be screaming you need PPE and ventilators when the Governor could have stopped it. He may not have the authority but the State Health Commissioner in ANY State CAN quarantine, close any and all facilities, etc. You would be surprise must how much power the have.

ETA... This is directly from the Code for State of Florida

381.00315 Public health advisories; public health emergencies; isolation and quarantines.—The State Health Officer is responsible for declaring public health emergencies, issuing public health advisories, and ordering isolation or quarantines.

[snipped]
4) The department has the duty and the authority to declare, enforce, modify, and abolish the isolation and quarantine of persons, animals, and premises as the circumstances indicate for controlling communicable diseases or providing protection from unsafe conditions that pose a threat to public health, except as provided in ss. 384.28 and 392.545-392.60. Any order of the department issued pursuant to this subsection shall be immediately enforceable by a law enforcement officer under s. 381.0012.
The cruise originated in Argentina on March 7. They did stop in Chile, Punta Arenas, on March 14, but were stopped from docking in a different port in Chile on March 21, the scheduled end of their tour. Four Dead, Over 100 Sick on Cruise Ship Off Panama Canal

No matter where they end up, I can’t help but think how scared those passengers must be. They are on what is quite literally a floating Petri dish.

Coronavirus: Belarus president refuses to cancel anything - and says vodka and saunas will ward off COVID-19

This would be hilarious, if not for the stakes:

Few measures have been enforced to curb coronavirus in Belarus - instead, people are being urged to drink vodka and go to saunas.

The country - specifically its president - has shrugged off concerns about the COVID-19 outbreak, starkly illustrated on Sunday with the nation's football matches continuing as normal.

As most countries enforce strict measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus, fans continued to shuffle into football grounds as they would any other weekend.

A Sheriff deputy that lives just up the road from me pulled in to say hello, he said he had a few calls at a couple of low income trailer parks & a housing authority complex earlier today. One neighbor calling on another type stuff. Kids and adults all together, pre Covid style. He can’t arrest them, there’s no place to put them & I’m sure no cop wants physical contact with anyone he does not know. He said he could get them to split up but as soon as he drove off they regrouped.
I have a bad feeling about some larger cities when the hot Summer time gets here.......moo

MS Zaandam - Wikipedia

Port of Registry- Netherlands.

Are they going to quarantine everyone for 14 days? In a hotel? Military base?
No temperature doesn’t mean they don’t have COVID-19 or possibly infect others. How are the passengers supposed to get home if they come to Florida? Are international flights still being flown out of Florida?

According to Cruise Critic the demographic of Holland American passengers are American and Canadian with a fifth being from the UK and Australia. HA has been transferring symptom-free passengers on board the Vaandam over to the Rotterdam in the last day. Unfortunately, symptom-free could mean asymptomatic which could possibly create a second bout on the Rotterdam. Holland America is an American owned company flying flags from the Netherlands and Malta.

Here's an 'update' on HA's website posted on March 17, 2020:
“These are unprecedented times, and while no guests or crew have tested positive for COVID-19 on any of our ships, we must take a leadership position as a global citizen and ensure that we are doing everything we can to help stabilize the situation,” said Orlando Ashford, president of Holland America Line. “We know this decision will be disappointing and also inconvenience guests currently in transit, and for that we sincerely apologize. All of us at Holland America Line are fully committed to supporting all our guests through this change."

They boarded that cruise ship on March 7th. The entire world knew it was not the best idea but they went on it anyway.

This information you are stating is NOT true. There are lots of Americans. They have transferred the healthier to a second boat. Of course this is a nightmare TO Florida, but all these people on that boat are living a MUCH greater nightmare. Have a heart, and try to set up the best possible solution. AND the cruise lines are willing to put up most of the transferring costs.

Of course the Broward County Commissioners are in panic....but this was just printed within the last couple of hours. This can be handled.
But while Udine (a county commissioner) supports refusing to let the ship dock, Commissioner Mark Bogen said Sunday afternoon he has another proposal: Let the passengers off at Port Everglades, then take them by bus to the Homestead Air Reserve Base in Miami-Dade County to be quarantined.

“We protect Broward County residents and let these people off the ship,” he said of his idea. “The feds put up the resources ... That protects Broward residents, it doesn’t put a strain on our resources and it lets the people come in.”

I realize this and do feel for these folks, but they got on this ship by CHOICE, on March 7th. They all knew about the outbreak.

I have family in Broward County, working in healthcare. They are scared to death, have little to no PPE and worry about bringing this home to their husbands and kids. They made the choice to be RNs but not to risk their lives for people who make poor choices.

The reason the county is trying to have the military intercede is because nurses are threatening to quit or call in sick. It's one thing to take care of your community but Flordia has put all the healthcare workers in dangerous situation. All for tourism.

Healthcare workers are only going to take so much.

Did Florida discuss where they will be getting doctors and nurses for the 1,000+ passengers on this ship if they set up temporary shelter in Homestead? I hope they don't pull them from your hospital system.

I won't accept this.
Me neither, because it isn't true, although it may feel that way. Not for this virus, anyway. Let's hope we have our act together for the next one. I actually think we will.

Why do I see winning game show contestants suddenly gifted with even more cruises?

What about the reat of the US. We re a small town and not receiving any PPE from our state government.

Everything is going to NY and this state doesn't even have mandatory shelter in place. They are threatening to sue other states for those traveling into our areas, they REFUSE to self isolate for 14 days. We are trying to protect yourselves, from a population who refuses to comply with CDC recommendations and a Governor that gets everything because he's screaming to the press.

The residents of NY have the same blood as in my body, we are all equal!!! I'm feed up with how special NY is.

NO New Yorker is more important than any other human being!!!

Moo...
Is there a way to "double like" this post........moo

I wonder just how many test kits were on that ship before it sailed. I'm guessing ZERO. So of course no one has "tested positive." It's like the stance West Virginia was taking ("Nope, we don't have it here!" No testing being done at the time).

Meanwhile, NY's mortality rates are tracking a bit higher than world average (per person positive for CoVid). The sheer number of test kits that NY has been able to use is amazing. California would love to have that many (we are keeping them in reserve to test people heading into hospital with severe symptoms, to segregate CoVid patients into their own wards).

NY continues on its exponential curve experience. Per capita, NY had 4X the increase in CoVid cases overnight, as compared to California. New Jersey saw a 20% increase in cases overnight as compared to 3% in California (using similar standards in both states as to who gets tested).
