MOSCOW

"Moscow goes full lockdown. No leaving the house except to the nearest shop or pharmacy, you can take out the trash and walk pets up to 100m from the house. Special pass system to be developed soon. Unemployed to receive 19,500 rubles ($250) per month."

Andrew Roth on Twitter

"People can still enter and leave Moscow in personal cars. Apparently the same restrictions are being instituted for the Moscow region."

"Not clear how this is going to be enforced (police or military on the streets?) but Moscow mayor's statement promises a "smart control system," which probably means cell phone tracking or facial recognition on city cameras (they're installed on most building entrances)."

Approximately 1,243 passengers were on the ship with 586 crew members.
Total of 1,829.
100 “well” passengers were transferred to the other ship. Unknown number of crew members.
Looking at over 2,000 that will need to be quarantined for a minimum of 14 days.

Where will the crew go? In quarantine too? Then back on the ship?

“The wait staff is from the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia, many of whom are sick and need medical help, she said.”

Does this mean that there might be more dead in their cabins?

NYC

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio told CNN's Jake Tapper Sunday that the city, which has become the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in the US, only has enough medical supplies to last through the week.

"We have enough supplies to get to a week from today with the exception of ventilators. We're going to need at least several hundred more ventilators very quickly," de Blasio said on CNN's "State of the Union."

"But we have otherwise the supplies to get to next Sunday. We are going to need a reenforcement by Sunday, April 5th in all categories, especially ventilators but in other areas as well. And personnel is becoming more and more the issue."

I cannot find lysol anyplace!!!
Lysol is one thing I loaded on when I first heart of covid. Unfortunately it didn't occur to me to load up on TP. LOL.
I just didn't think of TP as an essential covid fighting supply.

SCOTT GOTTLIEB

"Florida is at risk of becoming major epicenter of epidemic spread of #COVID19 in the coming weeks. Miami appears to be a major hot spot. The outbreaks were apparent there weeks ago. And the state was slow to implement mitigation steps, and probably exported a lot of its infection.

States that don't yet have evidence of epidemic spread should heed this experience.
Without widespread sentinel surveillance screening we're never sure where there may be transmission until case counts build to high levels. It's prudent to use this time to get ahead of outbreaks.

Scott Gottlieb, MD on Twitter

I feel so sorry for the mayor of Miami, thankfully he recovered from the virus but I hope he is strong enough to deal with what is to come.

Cannot imagine what things were like in the days of smallpox...
Sometimes I wonder how I even got here. Both my parents were 3 years old and in the packed Chicago inner city during the Spanish Flu, and they made it through that, 2 world wars and a great depression. I got pneumonia as a baby, just when penicillin became widely available. And I already mentioned the sugar cube polio vaccines in the 1950's. The Vietnam war where I was just lucky to be a non draftable young woman. Chicken pox, measles, all the rest. Sure hope they come up with a vaccine for this covid.

I am so relieved this was finally publicized. I emailed the local tv station 11 times, as well as the Gov’, to ask why this was “hush hush”. A lot of us were made aware of this days ago. Why why why is this stuff kept from the public?
Toyota employs 8k plus. This is the daycare for their children. Duh
So, of course the reluctant to close Toyota plant is full of presumed positives that can’t get tested. Moo.

<modsnip>
Oh....the Toyota labor pool of course shop & live amongst us.

Keep your pets inside or with you outside...especially cats and little dogs. Coyotes are known to prey on them.

Coyotes, pets and community cats
No worries. None of my cats have ever been allowed to go outside, except on our screened-in porch. One time sitting out there with them, a red-tailed hawk spotted my calico Macy, and actually flew right into the screen, not realizing the screen was there. Scared the you-know-what out of me. If she had been outside, I would never have been able to react quickly enough to save her.

Coyotes aren't the only issue around here.

Yes. Apparently many got cheap air and boarding passes. They knew, or, should have known the risks. However, we can't just let them possibly die because they were stupid.
That is not human nature. At least I hope it's not.
Maybe they could land in Cuba ? It is pretty there in the early Spring......moo

It was here! I linked an article about using humidifiers.
When up I was sick in January with a “viral infection” & thought I was near death, my doc’ told me to start using humidifiers. Immediate relief. I bought a cool air one for my 4 legged daughter, also. They are about as much fun to clean as having a root canal.
I’ve read Covid patients that heal at home are advised to use one.
Thanks for reminding me about your link. I think I've read 500 articles in the last couple of weeks. Hard to remember where.

Is Martial Law your only option in an emergency such as this? I'm not familiar with US options for maintaining order. Does this mean that military law replaces domestic law?

Canada has an Emergency Measures Act, which suspends civil liberties for a short period in order to ensure safety and security during national crises. It stops short of martial law. Justice still remains with the courts. Even so, this has never been done without extreme cause, and no one is talking about doing it now.

Is this the same as the emergency measures act that Trudeau invoked in 1969 or 1970? I thought it was called the War Measures Act, but am not sure. I have lived in the U.S. for over 30 years now, but grew up in Canada and was in Montreal when this act was invoked.

Joe Diffie, an icon to many country fans for his string of No. 1 hits in the 1990s, has died from complications related to the coronavirus, a spokesperson revealed Sunday afternoon. He was 61.

Diffie, a member of the Grand Ole Opry for 25 years, is a household name to any country fan who came of age listening to the format in the 1990s. He had more than 20 top 10 country hits, five of which went to No. 1 (“Home,” “If the Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets,” “Third Rock from the Sun,” “Pickup Man” and “Bigger Than the Beatles”). Two of his 13 albums went platinum and another two were certified gold.
