I’m posting this for others to check their own state’s policies in case it is similar to below:

“Sunday, March 29

7:30 p.m.: Colorado Department of Labor tells Coloradans not to file for unemployment yet

The Colorado Department of Labor says that because they have not received any official guidance, they are asking individuals not to apply for unemployment yet. If you do you will be determined ineligible and you will have to reapply.”

Me neither. But Instacart helped the economy by providing me with Pledge Multipurpose instead (we'll use it but it's not the same). I have no Lysol. My poor grandma must be quite disappointed in me.
Just get some bottles of peroxide. People aren't buying it and it is still on the shelves. No one is realizing that putting full strength 3% hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle is one of the most effective and quickest way to kill microbes. I am still finding it and keep stocking on it. And better yet, you can spray a little on your hand and it is better than sanitizer than these gels we are buying. And you can saturate a paper towel with it and it is better than a Chlorox wipe!

I love makeup, but always hair dry my hair.

Trying to prove the makeup is "just for me" but...slowly...I'm just sort of avoiding the mirror.

I love make-up too. I have enough to last at least a year. I need to put some on just to make myself feel better. I have been avoiding mirrors - no make-up and frizzy hair. It does feel really good letting my hair air dry.

I am now thinking of steam showering each night. It makes me really relaxed and I think I would sleep good. I am a person that needs their sleep or else look out world.

New York State Exceeds 1,000 Coronavirus Deaths
Thousands of People Will Pass Away,’ Cuomo Warns as Mayor de Blasio said the city had a week’s worth of medical supplies.

““It was a jarring scene — a giant field hospital rising in the middle of one of New York City’s most iconic spots.

But the coronavirus virus has upended life in New York City in many ways. Now Central Park has been chosen as a location for one of several temporary hospitals being erected to help hospitals inundated with coronavirus patients.

The filed hospital in the park, which is being set up by the Mt. Sinai hospital system, will have 68 beds and is expected to be operational by Tuesday, Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Sunday.

“We’re going to use every place we need to use to help people,” Mr. de Blasio told reporters. “This is the kind of thing you will see now as this crisis develops.”

Mt. Sinai is working with Samaritan’s Purse, a nondenominational evangelical Christian humanitarian organization. The hospital is being built by volunteers from local churches.”

I'll check out this one, too. Love Dave Grohl.

Dave Grohl was on pretty early. Hope you saw him. He sang “My Hero.” I quick texted my nurse friend who loves him too. My dh said “Tell her she’s our hero.” Sniff.

I have made my make up history now. I want everything clean. And I am only using now my creams that have squirt bottles. I am so scared of cross contamination now.

I've decided the only clothes I really need to launder or keep are the ones I can wear for work-at-home and at actual work. I'll be wearing pajamas (black capris) to work. I promise I'll wear a shirt as well. Of some kind.

If anyone has any ideas about how to lose self-consciousness and embrace Zoom, it would be much appreciated.

Our elementary teachers are using Zoom. They love it. My husband/ the high school is using google classroom, as all the HS students have a district provided chrome book. ( high school has an excellent grant writer) the teachers all have document cameras as well (from another grant)

ETA- you can use zoom without them seeing you. You choose whether your video is on. The below is if you turn yourself off on your own screen.

I was onto H2O2 from the beginning. I actually use it as a mouth wash every night, and have for years. Nice whiter teeth is a plus from this.

However, I think people have caught on because I haven't been able to find it lately.

Just a few random things I wanted to post.

1) I am obsessed with this thread. Somebody stop me, I need help. Lol.

2) @margarita25 was concerned about violent offenders being released from prison. Yes, there have been. I have posted links to at least four murderers being released, one a home invader who shot a mother and son 17 times.

Another career criminal who stabbed his girlfriend 17 times, all captured on video, and then asked police “Is she dead yet? I hope so.”

One shot his best friend in the back of his head.

There were no cases of Coronavirus in at least one of these jails and were not high risk. They were released without bond. I’m sure there are more but I haven’t checked lately.

3) Cruise lines WILL NOT be receiving any stimulus or bailout funds.

4) How shoppers can avoid catching coronavirus at grocery stores.
  • Head to the grocery store during off-peak hours, usually as soon as they open. (BBM I disagree with this, as many stores are open to only seniors the first hour and it is very crowded. I went to Walmart close to closing time yesterday and there were very few people there and had everything in stock. Montgomery, TX.)
  • Order your groceries online and have them delivered and use the order ahead and drive-up services.
  • If you do venture into a store, wipe down your shopping cart with disinfectant wipes.
  • Avoid crowded aisles.
  • If you can, leave the kids at home to limit the number of people in the store.
  • As soon as you get home, wash your hands.

I've worked thru Zoom daily for two years now and the key is to turn off your video and claim you're working from a desktop that has no webcam.

Duh. I think I can pull that off (it's a lie, although "webcam" doesn't really describe what happens on my laptop - it looks like fishbowl cam.

I am psyching myself up for it. I am a good public speaker, I just do not like appearing on camera. I've mastered the make-up techniques that keep me from looking weird, but...I don't want to see myself in a square with my facial expressions while I'm trying to communicate. I tend to look rather impassive even when I'm not (if I could walk around the room in my little square, that would be different).

Steam shower or hot bath. Both seem to lower blood pressure, give the heart and lungs a break.

I'm thinking of just sleeping in the bathtub.

The Need for Specially Trained Experts to Run Ventilators

Today I noticed more news articles stating the need and shortage of medical experts trained to operate ventilators . There is currently a shortage of critical care experts, intensivists, pulmonary Dr's, respiratory therapists, There was a shortage of respiratory therapists in some states before the virus.

--Hospitals are seeking tens of thousands of ventilators to help patients breathe as the disease attacks their lungs. But someone needs to operate those breathing machines. And there aren't enough specially trained personnel, health care experts and reports warn.

"They're very complex machines, and you don't have enough respiratory therapists," said Dr. Thomas Frieden, a former director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"You're going to have to train nurses and others to run them," he said. "This is not a surprise. We've known for more than 15 years that this is one of the biggest chokepoints ... in saving lives in a pandemic."

New York is among the states with the lowest concentration of respiratory therapists compared to the national average, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data from 2018 that was analyzed by USA TODAY. The concentration is similarly low in Washington, the first hotspot in the U.S.

In New York, Cuomo
cast an even wider net, seeking retirees in many health care specialties. Roughly 40,000 people volunteered to be on call for the state’s newly-created Surge Healthcare Force, including 160 respiratory therapists, according to the governor’s office.

A similar plea in Illinois recruited 450 healthcare retirees.

Shortages of respiratory therapists could limit the number of patients on ventilators to 135,000at a time, according to a 2015 assessment of the U.S. health care system's capacity during a major health crisis.

--Licensing officials in North Carolina, California, Ohio and Colorado told USA TODAY they are cutting red tape to help retirees return quickly.

The respiratory care board of North Carolina, a state with about 5,000 licensed respiratory therapists, approved 50 respiratory therapy students to work as assistants in hospitals. It's working on approvals for dozens more.

“Even prior to this we were struggling to keep up with demand for therapists,” Croft said. One hospital had 20 openings for therapists before the coronavirus crisis.

Their numbers, sufficient for ordinary times, are too few for the pandemic.

“Ideally, if you want to train someone to be competent to do critical care in a respiratory sense, you need a better part of a year,” Gibson said. “If you’re just going to use them as sort of an extension of the physician or respiratory therapist six to eight weeks, maybe. But we don’t have that.”

Some of the most important specialties needed to fight the coronavirus pandemic are intensivists and critical care nurses — the physicians and nurses specially trained to manage ventilators and life-supporting medications essential for critically ill patients. There are currently fewer than 65,000 physicians, physician assistants and advanced practice nursing intensivists and about 550,000 critical care nurses in the United States.

Further complicating the provider shortage. first-line doctors and nurses need robust layers of backup personnel in case they fall ill and become an infectious risk to others.

Coronavirus treatment: Hospitals need ventilators, respiratory staff

For now, SA has enough ventilators and medical staff. Will it in the future?
