Do you think that the elementary teachers are all used to having their face be the focal point? I'm used to writing complex things on a whiteboard and I can't figure that part out. I mean, I can sort of hold up a piece of paper (no digital whiteboard at my house). I guess it's okay if I just appear perplexed part of the time. I hate having to fake being happy to see everyone (I'm not happy about this situation at all, but I'm not an elementary school teacher -further, the course content - human biology and human evolution, including natural selection - is already sort of grim).
I need to try it though. Because we're told we're not going back into actual classrooms until August.

Maybe some of us should try a WS zoom. How many boxes can a screen hold? (I have 70-100 students in some classes).

My husband uses a USB connected document camera to show what he is writing- his kids never see his face- only hear him and see what he is writing/ figuring out. His video is turned off. He uses a whiteboard in the classroom- but has mastered this camera thing. @10ofRods

Pentecostal preacher Tony Spell didn’t just stand before his congregation on Sunday in defiance of the governor’s order to stay home: He leaped into the pews, paraded, hugged and laid hands on worshipers’ foreheads in prayer.

“We’re free people. We’re not going to be intimidated. We’re not going to cower,” the Rev. Spell said from the pulpit of Life Tabernacle Church in a suburb of Baton Rouge. “We’re not breaking any laws.”

When people are frightened, they turn to God, but one of the cruelties of this pandemic is that places of worship are closed.

While booze, marijuana and guns are essential services in various parts of the country, spiritual solace has been deemed superfluous.

But the pastor of Hell’s Kitchen, Father George Rutler, whose parish was hard hit by the Spanish flu in 1918, has kept his Church of St. Michael the Archangel on West 34th Street open for private worship by anyone who happens to wander in through the open doors and sits in back — as long as they keep a safe distance from one another — after the archdiocese, on medical advice, canceled all Masses indefinitely two weeks ago, in the middle of Lent.

I am. She's amazing. So are her sisters and brother (my sister's kids). They have had their sewing machines for Hawaiian quilting (prize winning) for a long time. But now, of course, they are devoted to helping their island.
Sending Aloha and Mahalo to your nieces and nephew.
We used to live in Hawaii. My avatar is a picture of Hawaiian quilt made and gifted to us by MIL.

The 60-year-old church has continued to use its fleet of two dozen buses to bring hundreds of congregants to services three times a week from five surrounding parishes, including congregants from mobile home parks and public housing in low-income neighborhoods. More than 1,100 people of various races worship by age group at seven sanctuaries on the property. In addition to spiritual guidance, the church offers free breakfast. Only about 10% have stayed away, said Spell's father, the Rev. Tim Spell, 66, including his own 90-year-old father who has been sheltering at home.

Covid-19 deaths: Fauci says US could see millions of coronavirus cases and 100,000 or more deaths - CNNPolitics
[...]

"Whenever the models come in, they give a worst-case scenario and a best-case scenario. Generally, the reality is somewhere in the middle. I've never seen a model of the diseases that I've dealt with where the worst case actually came out. They always overshoot," Dr. Anthony Fauci, a key member of the White House's coronavirus task force, told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union."

"I mean, looking at what we're seeing now, you know, I would say between 100 and 200,000 (deaths). But I don't want to be held to that," he said, adding that the US is going to have "millions of cases."

Ha! The locals are none too happy about that.

They are typically insulated from tourism during the winter months, which would also mean that they would be at a lower risk of this thing spreading there.

Unfortunately, that’s where the wealthy are fleeing, especially people from New York.

The bigger problem is their hospitals aren’t equipped for an emergency like this.
Yeah. Those wealthy New Yorkers have taken over the neighborhood. :p

Good evening. I hope everyone is well and safe. I wasn’t sure where to post this and apologize if this is not the correct Place.

Anyone else out there wondering who the woman is the military rescued from a “horrible situation” last week? Trump mentioned it in one of his briefings and since then... nothing. I’ve seen that it was someone who went missing during the Obama administration, and other places saying it’s someone who went missing in 1999 - just all unsubstantiated tidbits I can not verify. Anyone else hear anything? Or have any ideas?

Thank you!

@jvikes Can you share your screen only? Then it would be like a voice over

Yes when you share your screen it doesn't show your face. You can also doodle on the screen for people to see. But just turning off video and muting yourself allows you to stealthily lurk on the call and only shows your username handle if you do speak up. My company has gone basically 120 days work from home (although I've been that status for almost 10 years now). The technology we have these days really allows weathering storms like covid-19 much easier, but there are so many smaller companies that don't know they can do it or how to do it (service oriented jobs excluded). In 30-40 more years this will all probably be second nature - the ability to flip a switch and keep employees safe at home doing their jobs.
