zaandam update

Maybe some of the quotes will answer your question or add information:

The ship was originally scheduled to arrive at Port Everglades on April 7 at the end of a 31-day cruise that originated in Buenos Aires, Argentina on March 7, and made stops along the coast of South America. Holland America has confirmed that 411 passengers were booked on the 31-day cruise. The remaining passengers were booked on shorter segments, including a 14 day cruise that was scheduled to end in San Antonio, Chile. Since the cruise was terminated before arriving at San Antonio, all those passengers remain on the ship. After arriving at Port Everglades on April 7, the ship was scheduled to go into dry dock for two weeks, then return to Port Everglades to leave for Canada on the first leg of its reposi
...
There are 1,243 passengers aboard the Zaandam, including 305 U.S. citizens and 247 Canadians. There are 49 Florida residents on board, including several Broward County residents.
...
Holland America Line has been a primary customer for Port Everglades since the mid-1930s. Further the Zaandam was christened at Port Everglades by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in May 2000.

This cruise season, October 2019 through May 2020, Holland America had 11 cruise ships scheduled to sail from Port Everglades, including Zaandam.

...
Btw. It is Netherlands, not Holland
This is valuable information, thank you. I don't want to point fingers at any of these ports, but the cruise lines help make their economy. And I bet there is lots of money made at every business they stop along their cruise. Yet the ports, and stops, all of them, turn their back. If this is the end of the cruise lines, so be it, but it will also be a major decline in economy of these places.

Aren't all churches and schools closed in many areas, and why can't a make shift quarantine be set up in them so they can get the people off the ships, and then determine if they need to be hospitalized?

MOO

Trudie, have you checked out “our” Gov’s meme page on Facebook with 15K members? It’s hilarious. And women are crushing on him, but only in a respectful way. And his sign language gal is a major hit, too. Anyway, if you need a smile, check out the Beshear meme page on FB.

(I say “our” because I’m still not used to KY not being my home. Last weekend I was supposed to be on vacation In Louisville. Now I don’t know when I can return or when my friends can come see me. I had a long list of people I needed to hug.)
I’ve only watched him on TV. I’ll look at FB, tysm. Hugs are def’ off limits. Lol

One of the most terrible aspects of this epidemic will be the economic consequences. We have not handled this reasonably or well. I hope for better next time.

And there are so many people needing help, I do not have a clue how to begin to help.

Any thoughts on how it will effect real estate values?

A judge has ordered two Louisville residents to stay inside their home after refusing to isolate themselves amid COVID-19 concerns.

The two people live in the same home near Bardstown Road and Hikes Lane. One has tested positive for the highly contagious illness, but the other has not, according to the order issued Friday by Jefferson Circuit Court Judge Charles Cunningham.

Both were ordered to stay home and isolate themselves,Cunningham said.

Cunningham put both on home incarceration and had them fitted with global positioning devices. They have been ordered to stay home until at least April 6, if not longer.

The pair will be monitored by the sheriff's department and could face criminal charges if they violate the court order.

I started on mine this morning. I didn’t get far before the razor clogged up. I decided I’ll work a bit on it daily. :D

I'm glad someone else brought this up. I had the awful thought the other night how embarrassing it will be if I end up in an ER lol. Jmo

You are talking about very rare, hard to find perfumes there.
I would usually opt for the more affordable "eau de toilette" version of that perfume, but not after reading about bathrooms on this thread! :D:D:D

US is similar to Italy and Spain with daily deaths today. France and UK not far behind.

I am pretty sure the medical staff will be too busy to notice. Likewise the state of your underwear.

They are probably doing their "plan", "go to the United States"
I think these cruise ships have been doing these trips up and down the coast of North and South America for many years. It seems half of the passengers are from the US and Canada so they are going to have to disembark and fly back to their homes as are the remaining passengers. After testing and quarantine I guess. Did someone say there are 11 cruise ships altogether? How did they deal with the Diamond Princess in Japan?

Small Victories....:p

I was determined to find some toilet paper somehow. I had two instacart orders, and neither delivered any paper supplies. And my daughter had been on two grocery runs for us, and no luck.

Then when I saw the posts about the possible strikes by Amazon employees and instacart employees, and Whole Foods, I began to be concerned....

I had heard rumours that our Home Depot has TP when it opens, at 6 am. But it is gone quickly.

So my wonderful daughter and her boyfriend said they didnt want me or hubby to go, they would do it....I told them I had masks for them, so they would be safer too.

We agreed to meet in the 7/11 parking lot at 5:45, and hand off the masks. When I arrived, I looked at the front window of 7/11, AND THERE WAS AN ENTIRE WALL OF TOILET PAPER AND NAPKINS AND PAPER TOWELS, right in front of me....

@otto I planned to list a remote vacay home in western Mi this summer, but now going to hold off a year, or longer. Home prices are really low in Mi, compared to where I live in KY, I do fear MI will plummet. Jmo. In my area of KY, they need to drop a bit, but I don’t see that happening. Jmo

I'm not sure I would want my child to return to a school (scheduled to open in May, according to FL) that housed virus patients. As to churches, you don't see Joel Osteen volunteering Lakewood in Houston, do you?

The Zaadam was supposed to end its tour in San Antonio, Chile. And began its tour in Argentina. Not one part nor one port of that tour had anything to do with the USA. The ship is flagged in Holland. Meaning they don't pay any USA dictated minimum wage, they don't have to follow environmental rules of the USA, and they don't pay any taxes in the USA.

Why didn't they stay in the Pacific and head for California? Did they get advance notice from the governor of Florida that if they made it thru the Panama Canal they could dock in Florida? They had to have some official incentive to come to Florida, IMO.

I've been following this conversation, and I too feel badly for people who made bad choices, but this is on par with planning to send "surplus" ventilators to Europe when when we need them ourselves, or $100,000,000 of medical supplies to Italy because we don't need those supplies ourselves.

Meanwhile entire online forums and youtube channels are dedicated to citizens' making masks to help protect medical staff. And there is a run on vacuum cleaner bags to provide some filtration.

AND, Trump said he wanted to use part of the stimulus bill to make the cruise ship companies "vibrant".

Trump says $1 trillion coronavirus relief package will ‘help everybody’
Half of the passengers are from the US and Canada though.
