Listening to this interview with passengers on board one of the ships says
" The Gov needs to take responsibility and do the right thing"

Hmmmm, when did these people get on the ship?

Regarding the passengers on the cruise ships - these cruises are at most 2 week cruises but average 5 or 7 day cruises ? So they boarded the ship knowing there was an epidemic of the coronavirus, knowing about the cruise ship passengers in Japan and California ? Spring breakers that voluntarily went on a cruise instead of the beach ? I wish them all good health but the situation they are in is due to their own actions. IMO

I think the sick ones should be helicoptered off for treatment and rest should be tested. This is inhumane IMO.
I completely agree with you. I can't believe it's been going on this long.

ETA - We have ALL done willfully stupid things. ALL of us. Much of the time, we've gotten away with it. These folks did not, this time. There is no reason to keep this situation going.

Just a small tip for those clenching their teeth when stressed. Push your tongue to the roof of your mouth. May save a headache and sore jaws.
I have a horrible clenching habit. I broke it totally with this tip! Great advice, IMHO only.

Strange as it seems, too many people believed that the virus was hoax/hype, that it would blow over in a couple of weeks, and so they could carry on with business as usual. Those are the people who are stuck on a sick cruise ship, stranded in the wrong country, and partying hard.

My son was going to travel with some friends from Melbourne to Vietnam in early March, but changed his mind at the last minute. Those people are stuck in Vietnam. Many other travellers decided to ride it out in Melbourne, not realizing that flights would be cancelled and options would be eliminated.

People who boarded cruise ships after the virus spread around the world believed that this would blow over in no time, that ships were clean, and that the virus only attacks sick old people.

I broke it with the advice of holding the tip of your tongue between your front teeth.

Good stuff. It really doesn't take long to become habit.

zaandam update

The decision to allow a vessel to dock here is not taken lightly nor is it determined by a single person

The Unified Command has developed a list of conditions that would need to be addressed in any Plan submitted by a cruise line. They include:

  • Full compliance with all regulatory requirements of U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Protection as well as the U.S. Centers Disease Control and Prevention.
  • All illnesses, conditions, medical concerns and or items of concern must be accurately disclosed and documented.
  • Any last-minute disclosures when the vessel is in transit to the berth or dockside will suspend all operations until the necessary fact finding is completed to the satisfaction of those in the Unified Command.
  • The cruise line, at its expense, will provide all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to all responders.
  • Temperature readings are for all disembarking crew and passengers before U.S. Customs and Border Protection processing
    • The cruise line, at its expense shall secure and arrange for private ambulatory transport.
    • The cruise line shall make all arrangements for care with the medical facilities.
    • To minimize exposure to shore staff, responders and the facility, as well as expedite transport by shuttle or bus or charter aircraft, passengers will leave the vessel with one personal item that holds only essential items. The cruise line, at its expense, will sanitize all other luggage in a location provided by the receiving facility and arrange for reunification of the luggage as soon as possible.
    • The cruise line, at its expense, shall arrange for the disposal of all medical and agricultural waste in accordance with federal regulations.
    • To prevent cross contamination from spreading between the passengers, crew and into the local community, the cruise line will be required to sanitize the receiving facility, which may also include, but is not limited to, any equipment used by first responders, the facility, exposed equipment used by contractors and any hired equipment used for transportation of passengers.
    • No less than 24 hours in advance of the start of debarkation, the cruise line will present a security plan for review and approval to the Unified Command that demonstrates how passengers will debark orderly, safely and in compliance with current health advisories (i.e. social distancing). Failure to maintain good order may result in an immediate suspension of the debarkation until the situation is under control.
    • All debarking passengers and crew must have a final, verifiable, travel itinerary prior to being allowed to debark the vessel.

Imo, they acted just like someone jumping in front of a freight train. On a good day cruise ships are floating Petra dishes imo. The last decade or so, they’ve been plagued with issues. I, for one, never believe the ships are cleaned properly. I’m grateful that I have no desire to cruise, been there, done that, & would chalk every cruise up to one of my least liked vacays ever. Give me a dude ranch vacay in Wyoming, lol. Fresh air, nature, few people.

Coronavirus: 3,000 reservists called up to join MoD's response

BREAKING
Coronavirus: 3,000 reservists called up to join MoD's response

The Ministry of Defence has contacted employers to tell them they are calling up 3,000 military reservists as part of the coronavirus response.

The group are those with specialist skills needed to help the effort and they will be expected to serve for six months as part of the COVID-19 support force.

No one already working for the NHS or front line services is included.

Those called up will be used to help provide medical and logistical support for the NHS.

I know several people like this. It's a total hoax. Let it run its course (that from a nurse *blink*). I'm stunned. Jmo

“The coronavirus relief package includes cash payments to many people affected by the pandemic. Here's what you need to know.

“How much you get depends on last year's taxes
The total amount of your stimulus check will be based on your adjusted gross income, or AGI, from your 2019 federal tax filing or -- if you've not filed this year yet -- your 2018 filing.

If you've filed your 2019 federal tax return, you can find that figure on line 8b of the 2019 1040 federal tax form. It's line 7 on the 2018 1040 tax form.”

[...]

“Here's what we know right about the individual and household coronavirus relief checks that are part of the federal package -- including finding out if you'll be eligible, how much you can expect to receive and how to receive your stimulus payments.”

[...]

Who is eligible for a stimulus payment?
The amount you'll receive will depend on your total income in 2019 or 2018. If you qualify, you'll receive one payment. Here's who qualifies:

  • If you're a single US resident and have an adjusted gross income less than $99,000
  • If you file as the head of a household and earn under $146,500
  • If you file jointly without children and earn less than $198,000
Read on for how your payment is calculated and how much you can expect. You can also look at this calculator from the Washington Post.”

Here’s how I deal with that.

Yell at the top of lungs like a crazy woman so they get so freaked out they run away. Like I’m talking psycho.

I did this when I heard some idiots making jokes about Jessica Ridgeway’s murder at the bar. I screamed at them so loud they went RUNNING out of the building. Two grown men.

Moo

ETA: and if you make crazy facial expressions and widen your eyeballs all the better

And grab a frying pan too! Moo JMo

ETA2: Yeah don’t mess with me because I WILL BITE YOUR HEAD OFF and for all of you who know me here know I’m not joking.

The article says three weeks ago. Three weeks ago, I was already restricting my activities at that time. COVID-19 on cruise ships has been reported since early February.

thanks everyone for the support. I went to Publix and it was a madhouse. No way you could stay 6 feet away from someone. I just turned my head. Used the produce bags as my gloves - thanks to your suggestions. Publix was out of many many items but I did find a can of Lysol - yippee. Must not be a popular scent but I don't care. I am glad to be home. I had high anxiety during the 20 minutes I was in the store. I still have items to get but they will have to wait until another day. I don't know why my husband thinks that I am the only one that can venture out to the stores and take out the trash. LOL. I am exhausted from the high anxiety and I have a headache from clenching my teeth.
I made a joke to my daughter to wish me luck as I was heading to the front line when I went 10 days ago but it was fine. I have to psyche myself up again in a couple of days. Glad you got back from there ok. Let hubbie make dinner and clear up. Put your feet up you deserve it.
