SOUTH CAROLINA
SC DHEC Update - Thursday, April 2, 4:04pm

1,554 positive cases
31 deaths

Again, no statewide stay-at-home mandate from the governor. :(

ETA: Maybe it's just my imagination but it seems like South Carolina has a higher number of deaths compared to other locations with a similar number of positive cases ??

This is why they can even get away with saying that some of the individual stimulus checks will take 20 weeks to send out.

Does anyone think the big corps will wait 20 weeks to get their handouts?

All direct deposit payments will be quick, starting in three weeks, per IRS website.

The delayed are CHECKS. These are folks that used a debit card from the tax preparation company or ones that have changed checking accounts. It could take several months to track down a person that has moved and/or has no checking account.

The good news...IRS will have a website up by the end of April/early May. You can check/ change your address, checking account number and follow where your check is in the process.

Hi friend. I have a long response to this I’ve been meaning to create. Noting to pick up here after coffee.

SO... I'm really really glad I stocked the fridge and kept it stocked during this so that when it died today it died carrying a full load! We can't get a new one until Friday and of course they won't deliver it beyond the front porch. So that means somehow getting it to the kitchen ourselves and then an unplanned trip to the grocery store where I doubt we'll find enough to actually refill it.

ARGH!!!

/rant

I'm grateful we were able to easily replace it and it won't break the bank to start refilling it and the new fridge is super nice.

But still.
Have you considered checking with neighbors to see if they have any ice packs they could freeze for you and change out each day so you can use your existing fridge like a "cooler" until your new fridge is delivered? I keep several in my freezer. Maybe someone around you does too.

There was contradictory information on Velshi about an hour ago, but there's only so much time I'll spend tracking this as I do file all the time.

PPl should watch out for this, there could be many people who don't file, who DO have dependents under the age of 16:
From the link
"Since the IRS would not have information regarding any dependents for these people, each person would receive $1,200 per person, without the additional amount for any dependents at this time."

As I mentioned yesterday, it's pretty easy to free file on the sites mentioned on irs dot gov. Lots of ways to enter data on dependents even if your over all tax liability doesn't change with increased dependents. If I were in that category I'd go ahead and free file online, keep a copy of the filing, and when they open up that IRS web portal I'd recheck to see if they have my routing info.

So I noticed that both this morning and yesterday morning, that right when I woke up and hadn’t even opened my eyes yet that I had this awful heavy feeling of what I only know how to describe as deep depression. I was barely even awake, yet I could feel this awful depressed heavy feeling. Of course I’ve experienced depression before this, but just noting that the “ick” is really peeking it’s head out again. I look forward so much to coming here and reading everyone’s posts because it really really makes me feel better.

Now I’m crying LOL.

I think no yoga, been cooped up in here, stress, dread, worry for my family who are elderly and health workers is starting to take a toll. I feel sick.

So, I really have to be aware that this “invisible depression monster” is trying to get under me. I’m going to have to consciously fight this monster it seems. This means, as I’ve talked about before, really doing positive things to bring joy and help resume some sense of normalcy. I’ve been in the house for a month so no wonder I’m starting to lose it.

Goals: Clean and get house back in order.

Some of you may recall from the early days when I said I had a home issue which was going to require workers in the house and everyone advised against it unless it was an emergency. Well here is the deal - I was in the middle of planning to move to a new house. :(. But no way I was going to risk movers and a moving truck.

Anyway that all went to crap and I’m stuck here now, which is okay, but I was half packed, living out of boxes so to speak.

So now I have to get settled back into my house. Which will make me feel better, because everything is in disarray.

Thanks is for letting me ramble and thanks everyone for being here.

It’s so important remember during these emotional episodes that there is so much to be grateful for. I have so much. Others had no warning to get themselves food and supplies...

I’m financially stressed too. We all are.

Boohoo.
Margarita I had a moment like that tonight. Not sure if you guys do this, but on a Thurs at 8pm we go outside our houses (or open upstairs windows) and clap and shout for the NHS and key workers. Last week I wasnt well enough, so tonight I joined in for the first time. I got so upset, like a child, at how UNFAIR it all suddenly seemed. For all of us, finding ourselves in this awful situation. However much you try and be positive there is an underlying reality that bites you sometimes.

Oh Mags, big ((hugs)) to you. You've been so helpful and it's always a pleasure to 'see' the giraffe online. :)

The hubs and me were starting to get a little grumbly having been quarantined together for a week now, plus it was my birthday yesterday. We got completely tipsy and made a Corona video just being silly.

This morning we looked at it and immediately deleted it.

My only concern is that bit of news that the virus survived on the Princess after 17 days. That makes me nervous.

Me too. But I think if we look closer we would be less alarmed. Maybe!

They detected the RNA from the virus that causes COVID19. So sort of like DNA because some viruses carry their genetic info that way. I don’t know that they found anyone could contract the disease from the RNA found in those cabins.

Also, this was 17 days after the cabins were vacated. But we real don’t know whether anyone had been in there. Like staff of some sort.

Per other studies:

Researchers from the National Institutes of Health, CDC, UCLA and Princeton University previously found that COVID-19 can last up to three days on plastic and stainless steel. That study also found that the amount of the virus left on those surfaces decreased over time.
CDC says coronavirus RNA found in Princess Cruise ship cabins up to 17 days after passengers left

I am truly not trying to minimize this dreadful disease. I would not survive it so my stake in preventing the spread is super high. I’m very scared.

But I’m also just trying to employ logic.

If we look at the cruise ships, 19% of the passengers on the Diamond Princess ship became infected. This is a population that skews older and cruise ships are hotbeds of diseases transmission with super enclosed spaces, buffets, and tons of socializing. Yet only 19% of them were infected. Nine died. That’s .24% of the ship who died. Or 1.2 % of those who were infected.

This is a very good model to look at because everyone was tested. But we also have to consider that this is an older population in enclosed, tight places with high socialization and buffets.

So while the death rate is high (ten times higher than the flu at least) and every last one of those nine people deserve to have lived and should be grieved, and every last one of them had a life worth living, it appears that if this was truly airborne, most of the people on the ship would’ve contacted it. And many more deaths.

I believe if it was that airborne around 70% would’ve contracted the disease and around 312 people would’ve died.

Yes, you are correct. Social Security and SSI beneficiaries who have dependents will need to file a simple online tax form including the dependent information and they receive the additional funds.

Bless you. Balling. Thank you Going to make some coffee.

Margarita,

I haven't posted since the pandemic hit the US. I live in Ft Lauderdale FL, I began sheltering in place during spring break. Perfect brewing environment for COVID-19 (and many other bugs, too)!

I also wake up every day feeling depressed and financially stressed. I only buy food and pay utilities. I am worried that it will take too long to defeat the virus and jump-starting the economy will be impossible due to the overspending done during good years. And, even a cursory examination shows that the plague brings the worst in people.

When St. John had his vision of plague in Revelation, he knew from some experience or race memory that those who survived “repented not of the work of their hands.… Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.”

No. It’s easy to criticize from the benefit of forewarning. You’ve been on this thread for a long time. You know as well as I do that the information has been there for a long time indicating we needed to shut down by at least mid-February.

We are well within our rights to criticize government for its huge failures to protect or even try to protect the population. At ALL levels on both sides of the aisle. Period.

These people should all be tasked with following world news and understanding the threats to their constituents. Every last one failed to some degree. Every governor. Every mayor. Every health department official.

And they did so despite information that was READILY available to them.

How on earth did websleuthers know more about what was happening and what was needed than government officials tasked with protecting the public?

BBM.

Not sure if your question is rhetorical.

Most WS'ers are interested in facts and science. We look to the experts. If I need a legal opinion, I call an attorney ;) If we want medical information, we look to the scientists. :)

Also, many of us here were sharing "inside" information, not really secret, just not widely publicized.

Just my two cents.

I had the same reaction from most of my doctors offices. In one doctor's office, my husband went for his appt., but I didn't and he said my wife stayed home because of what is going on, and the nurse actually, said, "why, what is going on." In this same office as of today, no one (nurses and doctor) are wearing masks or gloves. Wht is this about? I am mad, and stunned. Thanks, Katt

From today...April 2. On video. This cannot be...

"Finding out that this virus is now transmitting before people see signs, so what we've been telling people from directives from the CDC for weeks now that if you start feeling bad, stay home... those individuals could've been infecting people before they ever felt bad. But we didn't know that until the last 24 hours. And as Dr. Toomey told me, this is a game changer for us."

Georgia governor to order shelter in place to curb coronavirus
Pretty wild. He should have read websleuths, we knew a long time ago people become infections before they are starting to show symptoms.

The situation with the cruise ships is more complicated than people think.

INMO, American citizens should be allowed off, and enter the United States.

The news media has skipped this part of the story.

JMO, but this would kill any desire to go on a cruise for me.

I think your information is inaccurate. I've been on plenty of cruises and crew members regularly get off the ships to explore the ports. They rotate so that there are always crew members on board but I've never heard of any crew members not being allowed off the ship. If there is something about them that makes them inadmissible to get off the ship then they are probably not eligible to work on a cruise ship. Whether in Cozumel, Tampa, Madeira, UK , or Spanish ports we regularly saw crew members walking around the port, having a beverage, or buying souvenirs.
