@beatrixpotter
My usual seed suppliers, as I said waaay back since the threads are moving fast as a summer storm, are low on everything I normally can order anytime. I use Renee’s Seeds, Territorial Seeds and a VA company who’s name I have written down but I can’t order till next week. Will try the local feed store as well. Thank heaven my local tomato, pepper & herb grower is holding an order for me tomorrow. Best of luck. COVID Victory Garden, yay!!

I posted this on Texas Coronavirus thread but thought I would bring it here too. A Tx RN volunteered to go to NYC (yes volunteered give her a cape people) to help with the battle. She is stationed at the Elmhurst hospital that Trump speaks about. Anyway she created a facebook page and is documenting her time there. It is a must read..... TX RN Takes On NYC

Indeed it is a must read! Made me tear up. My dear nurse friend here in Oregon did her first shift overnight at our small local hospital with Covid patients. It is the Infectious Control and Response (ICAR) hospital for our region here in Southern Oregon. The mild and medium cases will come here and the ICU cases to the large hospital twelve miles away. I’ll see if she wants the link to this FB page. I pray for all these heroes.

Yes. When I went out yesterday in San Diego at least 75% were wearing masks too.

Kali, I meant to send you this article, not sure if it is occurring in San Diego:

L.A. restaurants can officially sell grocery items
Mar 31

“L.A. restaurants that have turned empty dining rooms into ad hoc corner markets — selling pantry staples, dry goods and more to stay afloat amid a forced shutdown — can continue to do so for takeout or delivery, according to an email from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

“Public Health is allowing restaurants to offer grocery items as part of their menu for takeout, pickup and delivery,” a department representative wrote in the email sent to The Times on Tuesday.”

Hopefully you been able to successfully move to a takeout and delivery platform . :)

Dr. Fauci says it's 'mind-boggling' that any of China's wet markets are still operating

White House coronavirus task force member Dr. Anthony Fauci said on Friday that all of China's wet markets should be shut down immediately in light of the pandemic ravaging much of the world.

“It boggles my mind how, when we have so many diseases that emanate out of that unusual human-animal interface, that we just don't shut it down,” Fauci told “Fox & Friends.”

“I don’t know what else has to happen to get us to appreciate that,” Fauci said.

snip

Fauci said that other countries should speak out against any unsanitary selling of wildlife.

“In other countries in which this is commonplace, I would like to see the rest of the world really lean with a lot of pressure on those countries that have that because what we’re going through right now is a direct result of that,” he said.

It’s absolute insanity and makes me very angry. I wish the world would put enormous pressure on Chinese government to do everything possible to ensure this never happens again.

Unfortunately, my BIL was tested a few days ago. We just found out he is positive.

I am very sorry to read this. I really hope your BIL will be ok @Windsorite

Daughter, SIL and grandson joined us this past Wednesday. After staying home and out of NYC (working from home ) for over 14 days, DH picked them up in Hoboken and brought them to our house. It’s an adjustment but we’re happier to have them with us. They need help with a toddler and we need to keep them “safe.”

Plus it’s grandson’s # 3 birthday next week.

I am happy you are with your loved ones @zecats and really hope you will all be well.

UK

Hundreds of new ventilators are being manufactured daily in the UK - and 300 arrived from China on Saturday, a senior government minister has said. Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove said the government was working with ventilator suppliers in the UK to make existing and modified models in great numbers, with new models available soon.

Mr Gove said a team from University College London, working with Mercedes Benz, has produced a new non-invasive respirator that has been given clinical approval.

Coronavirus: Hundreds of ventilators being manufactured every day, government says

Thank you to China, Mercedes Benz and UCL today.

Does anyone know of outreach that their community is doing for those who live alone? I can't help but worry about what this isolation is doing to people who have no one to talk to.

I used to work retail, and I would see the same people, every shift. It looked as though going out to the mall was their exercise and their time to be around others. I wonder about them now. :(
My township called over a week ago to check on us and everyone in our area. . It was a call that offered support for anyone in our home or anyone we knew. Left a number to call.

Absolutely! After our first case was announced, our Governor would not confirm “is it true the patient worked at WMT?” But in a town of 5k, nothing is confidential. Thank goodness. Same thing in my town at two restaurants, thankfully word spread. Anyone feeling ill deserves to know if their last waiter, cashier or drive in employee is positive, imo.

I don't understand. Are you saying that no one is following up on possible contacts of people who test positive?

Oh, for heavens sake. Argggh
I could have sworn that at yesterday's press conference they said that the ship would accept COVID patients, and they would set up a tent or some enclosure on the wharf to test people.

Happy Dance!!! I know you are ecstatic!!!

I drive over and visit the grandkids from the end of their driveway. They set the phone on speaker. Oh my, I want a hug so bad!!!

I facetimed granddaughter and provided instructions while she made Tacos. I miss the chaos of the three. I could hear the boys laughing and talking in the background.

I want my life back !!!!
I know. I hear ya. We all are missing someone and something. The best is to try and be happy for what we have and remember this will be over eventually. I hope that gives you joy for the moment.

I am ecstatic. I was so sad for him as he doesn’t understand why he can’t go to preschool and see his friends. Or why his nanny, who’s been with him for almost all 3 years, doesn’t come anymore. Or why the playgrounds all have yellow tape around them.

His little school mates have a video chat every Friday morning. And he did an hour of Tot Shabbat (SIL is Jewish) yesterday morning, singing songs and listening to stories. The teacher sang him happy birthday. And he said “Oh, thank you.” So cute.

430,000 People Have Traveled From China to U.S. Since Coronavirus Surfaced

BBM "Since Chinese officials disclosed the outbreak of a mysterious pneumonialike illness to international health officials on New Year’s Eve, at least 430,000 people have arrived in the United States on direct flights from China, including nearly 40,000 in the two months after President Trump imposed restrictions on such travel, according to an analysis of data collected in both countries."
----------------------------------
Flights continued this past week, the data show, with passengers traveling from Beijing to Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York, under rules that exempt Americans and some others from the clampdown that took effect on Feb. 2. In all, 279 flights from China have arrived in the United States since then, and screening procedures have been uneven, interviews show.

Mr. Trump has repeatedly suggested that his travel measures impeded the virus’s spread in the United States. “I do think we were very early, but I also think that we were very smart, because we stopped China,” he said at a briefing on Tuesday, adding, “That was probably the biggest decision we made so far.” Last month, he said, “We’re the ones that kept China out of here.”

I don't understand. Are you saying that no one is following up on possible contacts of people who test positive?

Not sure who you're posting to, but not every person is being followed up for who they've been in contact with. The number of these investigations that are on hold or ongoing (everywhere) is quite large. Once the number of patients gets beyond 10, it's very difficult for public health authorities to find enough people who can investigate.

In China, workplace contacts were notified and attempts were made to isolate every person who had come into contact with the positive patient. Basically, the entire workplace was put on lockdown (literal lockdown at home). Chinese patients could submit other contacts to investigators and then the apartment buldings of those people were locked down.

It wasn't just an investigation.

AFAIK, in most US situations, all that happens is that the workplace is notified and everyone is told they were exposed. We're not doing much with the information. We all know that self-quarantine is only partly effective, especially when the nexus of infection spreads to schools or other places where there are kids. We're not locking up entire apartment buildings just because one person inside has CoVid (which apparently, China did and is doing).

In China, they did also try sealing individual apartments as I'm sure most of you know.

At any rate, for places like New York, you'd have to divert people from more important jobs to get an investigation of the networks of each CV patient. It's a good idea to assume, in a crowded city, that everyone has been exposed.

For anyone who doesn't file taxes, but wants to be sure the government knows you exist: Turbotax

I can't take credit; DH found it. He's the $$$ guy in our household.

Cases will continue to be identified in Northern Kentucky through testing, but more often people with symptoms associated with COVID-19 (fever, coughing and difficulty breathing) are being evaluated by their health care provider through telehealth visits. Even without testing, a health care provider can tell a patient if they think they have COVID-19. If you have not been tested, but have been diagnosed with COVID-19 by your health care provider, the instructions for care are the same. If you have mild symptoms, you must stay home, take fever-reducing medications and avoid others. If symptoms become more serious, you should seek emergency care. Additionally, it is important that you inform those you have been in close contact with, letting them know they have been exposed to COVID-19 and should monitor for symptoms.
MEDIA ADVISORY: 72 Cases of COVID-19 Identified in Northern Kentucky | Northern Kentucky Health Department

I’m really concerned how many people not tested but diagnosed positive walk amongst us & failed to notify their contacts. No wonder so many areas see such low positive cases. Most diagnosed cases (imo) are not tested, only tested results are reported. Moo

In Australia:

State weighs housing front-line healthcare workers in hotels

Benjamin Preiss and Zach Hope
...
Doctors and nurses on the front line of the coronavirus pandemic would be housed in hotels or other accommodation to protect their families and prevent spreading the disease, under a plan being considered by the state government.

The government confirmed it is actively considering the plan and is examining how it would fund accommodation for front-line workers.
...
The move to accommodate healthcare workers separately comes after 100 staff were forced to self-isolate at The Alfred hospital following a COVID-19 outbreak.

Healthcare workers at three other hospitals have also gone into self-isolation after being exposed to the virus.

Federal Labor has described the living arrangements of many health professionals as "untenable" and written to the federal government expressing its concerns.

The association representing doctors also wants healthcare professionals to be able to stay away from their families to allay fears among the medical profession - some of whom are already living apart from their households due to concerns about vulnerable family members.
