Well, I forgive Northam for keeping the golf courses open. Maybe Trump will finally give Virginia PPE!!!

Northam says .... We re on our own!!!!

Governor Northam: ‘Virginia is basically on its own’ in COVID-19 fight

Governor Ralph Northam said “Virginia is basically on its own” right now in the coronavirus battle. But people here in the state are stepping up to help.

"It’s just been amazing. First of all, here we are talking about hand sanitizer from a distillery but we have a shortage of PPE. As we move forward, as we look for the surge to come probably in May, that’s one of my main concerns is to make sure that our first responders, our healthcare providers have access to PPE,” said Northam.

We need more than hand sanitizer!!!!

In SW Virginia we have ALL volunteer rescue squads and first responders. They've been out of PPE for a week and none in site.

Our BOS and mayor held a press conference yesterday.
We have a well endowed trust who is picking up the entire bill to set up a testing site and paying for all tests. Announced yesterday, we can't get the kits and don't even have a ship date for them.

Northam seemed dumb founded when a WSLS reported from Roanoke ask him about plans for alternate hospitals, PPE and testing for this area. He repeated what he was doing in Northern VA and never gave an answer about SW.

Our leaders and the Director of Emergency Services said the state is not/flat out won't share or provide the forecasting model so we know how to plan. I could tell our leaders are VERY frustrated with the lack of state assistance even with information. They are pulling most from the CDC.

Moo....

Why do you think it's crap? Isn't he just trying to ensure the US don't export unless they have all they need?

Exactly. It's just the US plants. They have plants outside the US.

I sold a car last week, the purchaser wanted to give me a personal check, and we had the notary issue, I used snail mail for title transfer, etc. I would not accept a personal check, so he’s bringing a cashier’s check this evening with a trailer to haul car. I just took my beloved car (family member) for a final cruise, and used the vacuum next to WMT. Kids all over the parking lot. A family using the vacuum about 8 from me consisted of mom/dad/2 teens and a 6-7 yo. Dad was vacuuming & detailing, mom & three kids walked over to WMT. Why? On my way home I went thru liquor store drive in. Lowe’s sidewalk area is filled with people buying flowers and plants, kids in tow.
Here’s my conclusion: nice weather will ultimately spread the virus like crazy because more & more people will disregard directives, as this goes on. Prior to Covid, I didn’t see a whole lot of people in WMT with kids that seemed to “enjoy” their children. Mostly what I heard was “shut up stop that, don’t, do you want a spanking, put that down, shut up I’m on the phone....”. So, I can only imagine what is going on now. The one salvation I guess is a lot of households will have much more money. I’m thinking of mom/dad both laid off from low paying jobs, each now getting UI + $1200, weekly. So a family that might have struggled on $1800 monthly now has $4800 plus state UI.
As I cruised home, I went thru a new upscale subdivision, just a normal pre Covid type day. I think very few kids are monitored and somewhere USA a pervert is cruising a hood. Idk why some people have kids......, never understood why. Moo

If there's any "good" to come from the release of child predators. . . maybe it will convince parents to keep their kids indoors during their "stay at home" orders. IMO

A will company is waiving fees for those working in the NHS after receiving twelve times the number of requests in March compared to previous months.

Farewill is waiving the £90 fee to make a will after there were almost twelve times the number of requests from NHS workers in March 2020, as compared to December 2019.

UK coronavirus live: hospital death toll reaches 3,605, a record daily rise of 684

What a terrible state of affairs.

From the article you mentioned:
"The governor said the prisoners were serving sentences for Class C and D felonies, the “two lowest-level felonies,” and none were convicted of violent or sex-related crimes. Certain felons were not eligible for this consideration, he said."
I don’t like it. Their class C & D felonies warranted prison time, pre Covid they were not walking out. This will backfire, imo. Then what? A new inmate for county lockup. An inmate that has been roaming and might have Covid. What will the county jail do when recidivism soars? Some will easily find jobs & be amongst the public. Will they reoffend? Yes, a high percentage, imo.

The Chinese people themselves are saying that a family member dies of Covid but only pneumonia is put on the death certificate. This is one reason why it doesn't add up. Also our own intelligence agencies say they are not giving out true numbers and they stopped
a lot of their testing so they put down other causes of death not caring if it's Covid.

This is why it doesn't add up. I put out 4 links to articles.

Wait, it does add up for China, it's called disinformation modus operandi
of the China Communist Party.
I made a post yesterday about the UK deaths and the fact that it may not be that CV19 is the actual cause of death but that the patient has CV19 which is a reportable disease. So the deaths are of people who had it when they died.

Okay, what will ultimately be done for people refusing to follow directives? This is a huge issue. After looking at Lowe’s lot I’m surprised they have one employee left, I’d be g o n e. Day after day after day we get the same info. We all know what we are to do. Who are these people that feel exempt and why? @zecats please ask Dr. Ze his opinion.

I would think last thing we need at this time is released criminals walking around. It's not like they are immune from covid if they are released.

You know, I can sadly see us reaching 10,000 deaths in the next few days. I can’t help but wonder how many losses might have been prevented had we had a strong plan (or indeed, any plan at all) in place at the beginning of March.
My heart hurts so much for those left behind.

I read this last night in - I think - The Guardian. For a moment, I thought I was reading The Onion. $45,000 well spent (insert sarcasm and rolled eyes here) there. Good grief.

Yay! Thank you - a place for me to warble on endlessly about my tomato seeds :D Thank you for starting this, @Gardenista

Doubling every 3 days will have us at 10k deaths in less than a week sadly, unless it soon slows down.
ETA. Thinking about this I think that is why the Queen is going to address the nation. It is apparently only the 3rd? time she has addressed the nation other than her annual Christmas day speeches.

Rather disgusting isn't it?
Yes, it's disgusting because we as a general public are supposed to not buy these masks (although we couldn't even if we wanted to , since they are not available) and leave them for medical professionals. Meanwhile these masks are being made in US and then sold to other countries.

Canada developed the Ebola vaccine. What if Canada said that it could not be shared with the US. Obviously that would never happen, but if it did, wouldn't everyone see that as a problem?
  • "However, 3M issued a warning regarding the Trump Administration’s request to cease exports to markets in Latin America and Canada, saying it would not only bring up “significant humanitarian implications,” but that other countries would be likely to retaliate in the form of ending shipments to the U.S.
  • According to The Financial Times, 3M has resisted calls by U.S. officials to send about 10 million N95 masks being produced in Singapore for Asian markets to the U.S., and that officials in the White House have also discouraged shipments to Canada and Mexico.
  • Trump, meanwhile, had criticized 3M Thursday night, saying the company “will have a big price to pay!” apparently for exporting the masks."

For those of you not familiar with Menards, it's a store similar to Lowe's.

Thanks for posting, just adding a link to your story:

Secret Service signs $45,000 “emergency order” for golf carts: report

The Secret Service signed a $45,000 "emergency order" to rent golf carts at President Donald Trump's Virginia golf club on Monday, according to The Washington Post.

The agency signed a contract, which it described as an "emergency order," to rent 30 golf carts from a West Virginia-registered company called Capitol Golf Cars and Utility Vehicles from April 1 until the end of September, according to the report. The contract did not mention Trump but it "closely mirrors" previous contracts the agency signed before protecting the president at his New Jersey and Florida golf resorts.
45K could possibly buy about 6,428 valuable N95 masks to help protect those wonderful medical personnel who are helping those infected, putting their own lives on the line.

It's good to share but presumably you should share if you have enough available for your own country. What if Canada made vaccine, then sold it to other countries, while their citizens couldn't get it? Do you think that would make Canadian citizens happy?

I would think last thing we need at this time is released criminals walking around. It's not like they are immune from covid if they are released.
Perhaps they will have ankle monitors and so have to stay at home like the rest of us.

Breaking news UK
Just heard that two NHS nurses were among the latest deaths. In their 30"s with no underlying conditions.

Right, I posted this yesterday. I’m getting ready to call a friend that works at one in MI, I think she’s at the Baldwin store.
But what about Lowe’s? Is a potted pansy worth risking death? Evidently, yes. I don’t care what anyone buys but I do care that they are endangering the rest of us.
Perhaps LE need to set up tented substations in parking lots? Idk...
I predict bad things, very bad things will start happening at any moment.
On my brief drive, it was obvious tempers are soaring. Everyone is in a hurry to get to the garden center & box stores. I guess panic has set in, maybe they are afraid they won’t get what they need or the store will close?
For those of you not familiar with Menards, it's a store similar to Lowe's.

Per the Forbes article quoting 3M, a pandemic is not the right time to start a trade war - retaliation, etc.

I'm typically the eternal optimist, but I'm becoming more frightened with each passing day.
luckily, I’m a realist & see all things for what they are not how I’d like them to be. It stuns me too see such reckless behavior.
How can an entire family stroll around like normal? How many Xs do we see where another family has suffered multiple deaths? Not to mention the risk to the store clerks. Sad.
