Then I guess we all need to start acting as one world. If Covid19 didn't happen first, climate change would have eventually forced our hands. JMO.
Though I am not a climate change believer, I agree in the need to act unified. Even symbolic steps can reduce "piracy"- not matter who does it.

Maybe the developed countries can pledge a certain amount of purchased PE to poor countries with identified needs? If PE cannot be sent, medical expertise can be sent. Even small numbers of doctors would be welcomed by some nations.

SA premier signals 'new phase' of coronavirus outbreak

...
South Australia Premier Steven Marshall says caution is still needed but that the growth of coronavirus cases around Australia is slowing.

"We are moving into a phase now, where the numbers are not moving in an exponential growth rate," Mr Marshall said.

But he warned that the state had been home now to three "very significant" clusters of the virus - from cruise ships, in the Barossa, and at Adelaide Airport.

South Australia has had a "relatively low" 11 new cases overnight, bringing the state total to 396.
...
State Chief Health Officer Dr Nicola Spurrier said three of the new cases had come from the Ruby Princess cruise ship, bringing the total to 84.

All of the new cases were found in adults, with victims aged from 20 to 60.

So far, 18 people are being treated in hospitals, with eight aged 52-74 in intensive care units.
...
Border control measures are still in place, with police having checked about 9500 people entering the state to date.

About half have been ordered to self-quarantine, with the other half found to be essential travellers.

Mr Marshall said despite the optimistic news about the low growth in new cases, it was "no time for complacency" and people needed to continue to follow social distancing and self-isolation orders.

Isn't the phrase, 'All's fair in love and war'? This is a war against an unseen enemy, worldwide.

I agree that greed and hoarding is not the way to go but when its the whole planet, there is no rule book!

The US wants to keep locally made 3M masks in the US, and the US is interfering with international purchases of masks. Does that seem right?

International trade rules are not suspended during a pandemic.

Thousands of nurses cross the bridge daily in Windsor to fight the virus in Detroit. Should they stop helping the hotspot and go home?
If Canada decides that the nurses are needed in Canada, would they be "pirating" the nurses?

This is interesting. I’ve read about Ivermectin for Lyme disease treatment too I think. We have been accidentally dosed a few times trying to treat the cows. We have had pour on stuff on our skin and can taste it. Use it on the horses all the time too. Will be curious to see how this one plays out. Obviously I’m not going to dump ivermectin on me as a cure, that would be stupid. Just interesting that a drug that has been around forever is finding uses all the time.
@tbone this article is older but does discuss possible link between Covid/parasite. Makes sense. Stock up on Ivermectin next time you go out, it will be the next impossible to get item. Hopefully people will not ingest it. Like you, I’ve had a taste.......

Purchased at prices that poor countries can never afford- right?

White House: CDC to recommend Americans cover faces when outside, Trump calls it 'voluntary'

breaking news from Houston area (May have been posted earlier).

guess I’ll be at the sewing machine all weekend. The bias I needed came in but I don’t think I have enough to make the sudden rush of orders I have. Wondering if I use my fusible interfacing if it would serve same purpose. Want to make mine with the ties because I think they will hold up to washing better.

I hadn’t planned on going out for another week yet. I need to deworm the new cow, didn’t think it would be in short supply. Just did the horses but maybe I’ll get a years worth so they are covered.

This is the BBC reporting regarding the mask story; Canada and Latin America.

Trump 'wants to stop mask exports to Canada'

This is the BBC link re wearing masks.

Coronavirus: Americans advised to wear masks but Trump not keen - BBC News

Health officials advise masks, Trump won't wear one

President Donald Trump has announced the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) now recommends that Americans use non-medical, cloth face coverings to help prevent the spread of the virus.

"From recent studies we know that the transmission from individuals without symptoms is playing a more significant role in the spread of the virus than previously understood," Mr Trump said.

"With the masks, it's going to really be a voluntary thing," he emphasised. "It's voluntary, you do not have to do it. I don't think I'm going to be doing it."

He notes the CDC is not recommending the use of medical-grade masks, as those should go to health care workers.

I'm hyperaware that I am a target for this virus. I'm in NYC, 62, a heavy smoker with COPD. I live alone, with family in NY and Jersey and Florida, none of whom I can see.

Therefore, I've only left my apartment twice in the last month. One walk outside, one crucial grocery trip. Mask and gloves and hand sanitizer, then wiped down everything with disinfectant. I'm not sick now and am doing by best to stay that way. Take my temperature twice a day and remain shut in. Cancelled newspaper delivery. Only get the mail every four days.

Although it's excruciating to not see another person, it's the only way to stay safe. IMO my mayor took too long to close the schools and too long to recommend covering the mouth and nose outside. It's been obvious for quite some time that this virus was exploding exponentially, long after everyone knew to wash our hands for 20 seconds and avoid people who were sneezing and coughing.

My main point is for all my fellow Americans and Websleuthers who live where currently the virus is not rampant. You may feel, or your governor may feel, that since there's no or little virus near you, it's too encumbering to isolate. It certainly is destructive for people's jobs. But as a reminder, Wuhan is far from NYC, but the virus is here and destroying us.

Yes, it's to be expected in NYC that people from around the world will come here, and hence we are the epicenter for a virus from the other side of the world. But please, don't take chances where you live. You've had the common cold, you know that viruses travel in unknown ways.

My parents are elderly Floridians. We have been arguing with them constantly for going on numerous errands which are not life and death. It was hard to persuade them, when Florida was still bouncing around.
Thank God their state is finally sheltering in place.

Today I found out that a cousin-in-law's sister died on Long Island, from Covid. Her sister in Florida cannot come up for the 5 person graveside service that will be held. One of my best friends on the Island, whom I used to see weekly, was one of those who pooh-poohed this whole thing as overblown. Now he's forced to confront reality.

NOW IS THE TIME TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS! NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE! It goes without saying that it's more comfortable to be isolated at home than isolated in the ICU.

Again, remember all those colds you've had, that you have no idea from whom you caught it, or maybe even the flu. This pandemic is a virus that is airborne and dangerous because asymptomatic people are still shedding heavy viral loads. Stay home! Cover your face if you must go out! Don't wait for an elected official to mandate it, because by that time it's always too late.

Excellent post. I wish you success in your mission to stay healthy and avoid this terrible virus.

If Canada decides that the nurses are needed in Canada, would they be "pirating" the nurses?

I don't understand. There are two separate issues:
  • 3M has been told they cannot sell masks to Canada and Latin America
  • medical supplies destined for Germany and Canada were diverted to the US after they were in transit to Germany and Canada.
How does the question relate?

I'm glad for you about the rush of orders, if not the sore neck and shoulders! I placed a couple of orders on Etsy because I'm inept and was hoping to give some business to a talented craftsperson. Plus I wanted something pretty :) Good luck with business, and stretch often!

I don't understand the criticisms. The fact they have capacity is good. As the regular wards have to convert to CV19 wards, the regular patients will move to the ships. I guess the person doing the criticism would rather look after regular patients than CV19 patients.
According to Gov Cuomo during today's presser, there really are less non-co vid hospitalizations. Because of so many being quarantined, there are way less traffic and pedestrian accidents, and crime is down. Plus elective surgeries have been canceled for the time being.

Check this out. China hoards 2 billion face masks
EDITED: grammar.

Next, maybe offensive to some post:

I smiled when I read about nurse using her bra cup as a mask. I think from earlier reading here today. So I’m moving forward with the idea, really? ...
Then I put it up to my face, perfect fit. I’ll cut it up and let you all know tomorrow how it works out.
But I think I better embellish it somehow so it’s not so OBVIOUSLY a cut up bra cup! Lol.

You gotta do what you gotta do, and it sounds like a good idea if you have no access to the recommended face masks.

Anyways, per Florida quarantine, until the end of April, even though I started mid-March. I can handle so can my husband. It's not as if our lives revolve around the socially active.

I have resorted to online window shopping, mostly at Ebay. So many stores in town where I normally shop on weekend are closed for the whole month of April. I will particularly miss Five Below and Goodwill Thrift.

Yesterday we went for a bicycle ride, only five miles, but are there more than a few couples or families out doing the same, or running or walking. Those sidewalks are getting their use, lol. But that's going to be standard for awhile, what with the beaches and state parks being closed. Or weekend drives, like last week when we did the central part of the state.

At least daylight hours are longer in the northern hemisphere, which is a bonus. Can go out after work and get some fresh air although we usually have the windows open during the day....

He's cute :) Let's hope he's right about this one :)
He will allow Farm Markets if people follow the rules. So they will be short lived, imo. He did say “if you touch it, you buy it.”

What's going on? Is the US trying to hoard all face masks during a pandemic? It might be time for some tough action from Canada - I favour shutting down access to water.

Not really, but people should think long and hard before they decide that essential services should be withheld from others.
