I have been most interested whether Covid is a parasite or not. I’ve read no less than 500 articles on potential links between the two. Moo

Virus

Is a parasite a virus or bacteria?
Parasites are part of a large group of organisms called eukaryotes. Parasites are different from bacteria or viruses because their cells share many features with human cells including a defined nucleus. Parasites are usually larger than bacteria, although some environmentally resistant forms are nearly as small.

All viruses are obligate parasites; that is, they lack metabolic machinery of their own to generate energy or to synthesize proteins, so they depend on host cells to carry out these vital functions.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/busi...-up-medical-supplies-angering-canada-germany/

“The White House late Thursday ordered Minnesota mask manufacturer 3M to prioritize U.S. orders over foreign demand, using its authority under the Defense Production Act, or DPA, to try to ease critical shortages of N95 masks at U.S. hospitals.

The Trump administration has asked 3M to stop exporting the masks to Canada and Latin America, and to import more from 3M’s factories in China, the company said Friday.”

[...]

“President Trump announced late Thursday he was invoking the Defense Production Act in relation to 3M, suggesting it was for punitive reasons. “We hit 3M hard today after seeing what they were doing with their Masks,” he tweeted. “Big surprise to many in government as to what they were doing - will have a big price to pay!”

On Friday, Trump added he was “not happy with 3M,” without elaborating.

In an executive order, the White House said it would use the act to acquire “the number of N-95 respirators that the [FEMA] administrator determines to be appropriate.””

-more at link

3M Response to Defense Production Act Order

“The Administration also requested that 3M cease exporting respirators that we currently manufacture in the United States to the Canadian and Latin American markets. There are, however, significant humanitarian implications of ceasing respirator supplies to healthcare workers in Canada and Latin America, where we are a critical supplier of respirators. In addition, ceasing all export of respirators produced in the United States would likely cause other countries to retaliate and do the same, as some have already done. If that were to occur, the net number of respirators being made available to the United States would actually decrease. That is the opposite of what we and the Administration, on behalf of the American people, both seek.”
3M’s response is so much more sensible than the feds.

Tresir, it is indeed true and so horrible I can’t post what all is done to make these animals life a living painful hell. There are probably a million links. They place tin cans around their mouths, tie their legs behind them and leave them to hang for days while beating them to death. That is a nicer way. Just google Wuhan Dog meat festival or China dog and cat meat torture. Be prepared for pictures and articles that will keep you up at night, bawling your eyes out. I just can’t do it right now, I am afraid of seeing any new pictures.

I cannot and will not look at photos but the worst thing is that right now with a pandemic going on the chinese are back at the Wet Markets. This must not be allowed to continue: there must be a world wide response to this, though i do not see or hear about such a response; it seems like oh well, back to the usual. i don't get it.

Re the masks - there is a mask making thread and it is in that. Click on the forum link at top of page to find it. Then click on the "Things to do while quarantined" forum and it is hopefully in there.

I just posted the following in that thread, cross-posting here.

Iron Your Bandanas!

A doctor posted on our Nextdoor feed about ways to sanitize. Ironing fabric helps to sanitize it, she says. Here are three of her suggestions.

Irons. Ironing fabric ... near sterilizes it. Iron your bandanas and use a fresh one daily.
Sunshine disinfects. Feel free to hang out the laundry.
Clothes dryer. Helps a lot, but you have to ratchet up the heat.

I don't think they were stolen. Commandeered, maybe. What do 3M and China say?

I feel the US will suffer down the road from arrogant behavior.

IVERMECTIN is a horse worming medicine. Is this article for real?

Edited for @mickey2942. Is that better? :)
I have wondered the same. Such a fine line... Either we are learning about something with real potential, or we are seeing yet another way that people are going to bring themselves harm! I really hope we have some horse expertise speaking out on this ivermectin...

Quoting from the article @JaneEyre posted:

Any extended, unnecessary contact with people, even six feet apart, violates the spirit of the precautions.

“If you’re going to practice intense social distancing, it really means avoiding or limiting contact with people outside of your family, and really staying home most of the time, unless you really need to go out,” Ciminelli said. “But any prolonged kind of engagement outside is really still not social distancing, having that prolonged contact with people that are not in your family."

Ciminelli said the six-feet rule is for when people need to leave their homes for essential reasons, such as running to the store for groceries, or going on a run or walk for the good of physical and mental health.
Sorry, hanging out while 6 feet apart isn’t coronavirus social distancing, expert says

I’m not sure that a mask or scarf really changes the intent of the social distancing rules. It may be somewhat safer, but maybe rethink walking with your friend? Wearing a mask is for extra protection when doing essential things outside our homes, but does it really change the social distancing rules to make it OK to be with a friend when you walk? What if everyone does it? Rhetorical questions to consider. :)
You are correct. Having a mask on does not make it ok to see a friend. Seeing a friend is not essential. Unless you happen to pass each other when you are on an essential trip. We have to be strict to beat this.

TY for posting all those links @margarita25.

This one is interesting, talking about secret stockpiles and state versus national need.

Trump Administration Changes Description of Supply Stockpile

"As coronavirus cases just begin to surge in the United States, the Strategic National Stockpile - a supply of life-saving equipment that the federal government maintains - is nearly out of protective gear.

And now, as hospitals buckle under the strain, the federal government is changing the definition of the stockpile's precise purpose.

That came after top White House advisor Jared Kushner said Thursday: "The notion of the federal stockpile was, it's supposed to be our stockpile," referring apparently to the federal government. "It's not supposed to be states' stockpiles that they then use." "

More at link.

I totally agree with Jared. The federal government should always have their own stockpile since when disastrous events occur in different states the governors call on the federal government for assistance.

Also each state should already have their own state medical supplies stockpiled in inventory on hand for each emergency such as possible earthquakes, fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, terrorist attack, health pandemics or any catastrophic event the governors know will require major healthcare medical supplies for healthcare workers, and for the high influx of medical patients.

The federal government should always have their own stockpile so they can assist whatever state or states are in need because of any specific event or time.

All of the countless voluminous amounts of equipment being distributed by the federal government to so many hotspot areas should be RETURNED to the federal government stockpile once this pandemic is contained.

That is the only way the federal stockpile can be on hand when the next catastrophic event happens.

No state should hoard any of the ventilators or respirators they received from the federal stockpile after the pandemic has been contained.

Everything should be returned when this has passed. If not it will leave the federal government nventory with empty shelves unable to address the next devastating event.

What needs to happen is each state needs to use a certain amount of fund each year in their own budget of the millions of collected taxes from state, and local taxes and beef up their own emergency medical stockpiles.

It seems so many state governors were ill prepared having no emergency medical stockpile of their own.

If they had, then it wouldnt have fallen solely on the federal government to now supply all 50s states with everything.

There isnt anything more important than making sure the emergency medical stockpiles in each state are fully stocked because no one knows when it will be needed, but realistically it will be needed for some event... so each state must be prepared before it happens.

It is what I have used to worm my horses for many years. Giving a double dose to them for tapeworm. We need human experts on it. I didn't know it was given to humans for the things mentioned in the article.

Here's the wiki link which mentions all the human and animal uses.

Problem is that there are expiration dates so the federal stockpile has to be used and replenished with new.

This medication is used to treat certain parasitic roundworm infections. Curing parasitic infections helps to improve your quality of life. In people with weakened defense (immune) systems, curing roundworm infections can reduce the risk of developing a severe or life-threatening infection. Ivermectin belongs to a class of drugs known as antihelmintics. It works by paralyzing and killing parasites.

3M’s response is so much more sensible than the feds.
So 3M masks manufactured in the States normally go to Canada and Latin America but the States gets it's supply from 3M masks manufactured in China. Is that correct?

Thanks. Interesting how they already have the note regarding tests for the virus at the end of the article. Wikipedia in real-time!

I feel the US will suffer down the road from arrogant behavior.
I have seen articles saying that the US took masks destined for Canada and Latin America and also that they took masks destined for France and Germany so just wondering what exactly is the correct story here. Unless they took masks destined for all four locations.

So we will send thousands of selfless doctors and nurses to New York to help. Without enough PPE.
BUT....

There are still states who refuse to crackdown on those who WON’T social distance.

Crackpot religious leaders who insist on gathering together for services.

States letting dangerous criminals out of prisons.

Stimulus money is still not dispersed to those who desperately need it.

JMO.

True, but keep in mind all those pouring into NY city hospitals now are folks that were infected AFTER the 15 day stay home order issued by the task force/CDC March 16th (18 days ago) NY Governor issued stay home order March 22nd (13 days ago) and closed non essential businesses March 20th (15 days ago).

The WH issued a 15 day stay home March 16th. (18 days ago).

Should we be seeing record numbers 13 days after the NY stay home order and 18 days after WH advisory?

I'm not singling out NY, every state is seeing large increases after the 15 day advisory. Clearly NOT ALL Americans are doing their BEST with staying home.

Right to freedom of religion and gun ownership are two very hot issues. These are First Amendment Rights, I know that folks can lose those rights to gun ownership for certain criminal acts. Currently, localities can prosecute for religious/all gatherings >10, under a misdemeanor resulting in minimum fines.

Moo...

IVERMECTIN is a horse worming medicine. Is this article for real?

Edited for @mickey2942. Is that better? :)

The article is for real, but don't start eating horse wormer. On the other hand, you might want to keep a tube on hand. The study just talked about the behaviour of ivermectin in a petri dish. Studies haven't tested whether or not it will kill corona in the human body.

Ivermectin is also a human drug, so we know the safety of common dosages. It's widely available.

I'm hoping that this will be a solution. Wouldn't that be simply amazing!

Re your other note - Here we go. This will happen a lot until it is a country wide mandated lockdown. MOO.

Thanks. I merged all of the links to other discussions regarding coronavirus to the first post of this thread and all future threads. If anyone would like a separate thread on another topic, let me know and I will help set it up.

What if it says "Made in PRC" ?

The old way of measuring fabrics was from your nose to your outstretched hand is approx 1 yard. So if you are exchanging at arms length sideways to each other that is approximately two yards. However, in Europe we are saying 2 metres, which is 6 feet 6 inches and probably just a bit too far too pass anything by hand unless you lean sideways too. But then your heads would be closer together than two metres/yards probably. We need a social distancing stick (a broom?) to hand things in thru windows. Innovations needed.
Nose to outstretched arm for me is just barely more than 2/3 of a yard.
