They do not possess ribosomes and cannot independently form proteins from molecules of messenger RNA. Because of these limitations, viruses can replicate only within a living host cell. Therefore, viruses are obligate intracellular parasites. According to a stringent definition of life, they are nonliving.

Gotta vent, sorry.
Our daughters in laws (they are in their late 60s, along with 3 adult sons and partners) want them to come over for Easter like usual.
Our daughter is pregnant and due in May. Our grand baby is 2 1/2.
The MIL’s “heart will break if they don’t come over”. *insert sarcasm.
Why can’t people grow up???????
@Midgie2 my eyes are tired. I thought your post said your 60ish dil is pregO. I was like WOW! Blurred lines, my fault.

Today I received two graduation party invitations both for late May. One is at a large estate(private home), the other at a rented facility. Keep in mind, invitations mailed out yesterday. WTH?

Sorry, it’s a mind twister to put together
I am seriously so pissed I want to rip my hair out.

For me, I think it's exhaustion & acceptance...I can't feel as peppery any more as I used to. It breaks my heart with every story of death that I read. We've surpassed the 9/11 deaths in NY, let alone the country. The thought of milk being poured on the ground to maintain prices is killing me, as I think of so many families facing another week of no paychecks. Comparatively, I feel like a rich "witch" for the first time in my life, and I just want to help those that are not as lucky as I am. Yet the very nature of this disease makes it impossible to reach out and help (other than internet donations & mask-making) - not just for my own sake, but for theirs, and their loved ones, and their healthcare workers!

ETA -I think my exhaustion started with seeing and hearing from anguished healthcare workers, and hearing their anguish minimized and dismissed by those who should know better.

This thing is insidious. It drives apart families and communities. It makes us mistrust each other in ways I had hoped weren't possible in the 21st century.

I just wish everyone well. I just wish for kindness, cooperation, and sanity. Gonna go cook with hubby now. Can't imagine what my life would have been like right now with abusive spouse, or as a stressed single mom. Love to all.

I'm at that acceptance point. All the negativity (not directed at you. I'm just bouncing off your post) in the world, all the everything else isn't going to change the fact we are fighting a new monster. I'm trying kindness and hope. I physically can't keep harming myself anymore - it's literally causing my controlled high blood pressure to not be controlled. I know I came into these threads late, but peace. :) jmo

So how do your daughter and SIL plan to handle the emotional blackmail? Ugh! I hope there is no pressure from your SIL!

That’s what my daughter has said, but son in law and family keep badgering her.
His parents think because they live somewhere very rural in a low case state that it doesn’t apply to them.
I’m worried that Easter will have lots of people gathering and people will throw caution to the wind.
Same with graduation parties, etc.
I just can’t wrap my head around this kind of stupid.

I am from Michigan but here in Fort Myers Florida for the winter. I must give credit to Michigan for much more transparency than the Sunshine state. I believe the public must know when there are positives at a restaurant, big box store or supermarket. It is in fact imperative and how dare Florida not share this information. As you know in criminal cases they make the entire case available to the public (remember the Casey Anthony case): it is irresponsible not to let the public know when there is a positive in a public facility that we do business with.

Years ago, I was told if blankets from a smallpox patient were put in a chest and left for 100 years then opened, you could still contract smallpox from those blankets. If they get a vaccine for CV19, I wonder if they will just add it to the annual flu vaccine?
wow....we hope for miracles don't we...

Here’s hoping daughter and SIL do say a big loud “No! What is it about social distancing you don’t understand?” Unfortunately, @Midgie2 doesn’t get to speak for them, but I suppose she could apply the same emotional blackmail on her daughter and SIL at her end...”My heart just break if you endanger my grandchildren and yourselves.”

That’s very unfortunate that your daughter’s husband doesn’t have her back. I’m sorry. As I mentioned in another post, maybe you can apply the same emotional pressure.

Tresir, it is indeed true and so horrible I can’t post what all is done to make these animals life a living painful hell. There are probably a million links. They place tin cans around their mouths, tie their legs behind them and leave them to hang for days while beating them to death. That is a nicer way. Just google Wuhan Dog meat festival or China dog and cat meat torture. Be prepared for pictures and articles that will keep you up at night, bawling your eyes out. I just can’t do it right now, I am afraid of seeing any new pictures.

it's horrifying
and so is the world's treatment of cows and pigs and chickens and goats and sheep and ...

Thank You Lilibet:) If this goes any further I think I will use your line:p

I had to read it twice too. We’re all getting blurry.

I guess with the grad invitations, hope springs eternal. Are their schools even having graduations? Most aren’t. And if not, why would a party be OK? It’s clear that some feel this lockdown doesn’t apply to them. Or else they’re in a state that has ignored the science of flattening the curve.

I'm confused by what you wrote. The truth is not fear mongering, they have been talking about having to make tough decisions for awhile now. They will not have enough equipment to treat everyone that needs it. Do you not like CNN? I am not sure what they have to do with it specifically, other news outlets are reporting on this as well.
I am NOT anti CNN and did not say I was. I asked a question. I haven't seen other news sources saying this. If they have, I will look for them.

Antihypertensive treatment with ACEI/ARB of patients with COVID-19 complicated by hypertension
''Antihypertensive treatment with ACEI/ARB of patients with COVID-19 complicated by hypertension''
April 1 2020
What people with heart issues need to know about COVID-19 | AZ Big Media
''The site of action for these drugs also appears to be the means by which COVID-19 enters the human body.

In the statement, experts stress there is no clinical data showing that ACE inhibitors or ARBs have an effect — good or bad — on COVID-19 in people, or in patients with COVID-19 and heart disease.''

Evidence Continues to Link ACE Inhibitors to Severe COVID-19 Symptoms
March 31, 2020

''Why is hypertension appearing to be a primary driver of COVID-19?

The incidence of hypertension is noticeably high in patients with COVID-19 and the high degree of targeting of older individuals is very unusual. A recent study by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding the Kirkland Nursing home observed: “The most common chronic underlying conditions among facility residents were hypertension (69.1%), cardiac disease (56.8%), renal disease (43.2%), diabetes (37.0%), obesity (33.3%), and pulmonary disease (32.1%).”1

Thus, hypertension may be a primary risk factor and driver of the severe symptoms of COVID-19. The ACE2 Receptor is used by the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) to enter cells. A protease, TMPRSS2, is also required to prime the virus for cellular entry. Data suggests that serum of patients which have recovered from infection blocks this entry mechanism.2

In a recent blog, the director of the National Institutes of Health, Francis S. Collins, stated:“The genomic data of the new coronavirus responsible for COVID-19 show that its spike protein contains some unique adaptations. One of these adaptations provides special ability of this coronavirus to bind to a specific protein on human cells called angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE2).”3

Other researchers have observed that lisinopril and losartan can increase (or upregulate) the ACE2 Receptor mRNA cellular expression by five and three-fold, respectively.4 This has given rise to concerns that these inhibitors may increase ACE2 Receptor cellular surface expression leading to exacerbated viral load in cells.''
Antihypertensive drugs may protect against COVID-19 in heart patients
By Dr. Ananya Mandal, MDMar 31 2020

Common drugs used in high blood pressure, heart failure, and diabetic patients with kidney damage, including angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), could be protective in patients with COVID-19.

A review of available data and evidence titled, “Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2 and Anti-Hypertensives (Angiotensin Receptor Blockers and Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitors) in Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19),” was published in the latest issue of the Mayo Clinic Proceedings.''

Oh wow. This certainly deserves to be bolded. And posted a few times.

Just wow. I was thinking that CV was associated with hypertension and that lowering BP would be good.

Apparently not.

But this is something about which people taking BP meds should immediately consult with their doctors.

Exactly. There is absolutely no moral superiority for the U.S. or anyone else on this topic. And how certain ones in China treat animals, while reprehensible, did not contribute to coronavirus. That came from wet markets. JMO MOO
