I don't think they are trying hydroxychloroquine on him. I bet he has access to experimental anti-virals, at least Trump offered those to him.
"In an evening press briefing, Trump did not name the companies or the drugs, but earlier in the day he held a conference about therapeutic drugs with the heads of four US pharmaceutical and biotech companies: Amgen, Genetech, Gilead, and Regeneron."
Trump: I have asked US pharma CEOs to offer Johnson experimental Covid-19 treatments

If I were to bet, I would suspect he would be getting convalescent plasma.

Ok, allow me to share my lateral thinking here...
Rubbing alcohol and hand sanitizer are not available in Tallahassee, Florida right now. The Home Depot website said our store was out of institutional sanitizer, too. However, I found out about an alcohol spray call EcoLogic Bedbug Spray. It’s a 70% alcohol spray with two special ingredients to make it more powerful against bedbugs: essential oils of lemongrass and comint. It’s a sanitizer spray! Just ignore the essential oils, which are harmless and often used in special herbal soaps. They were $10 each for a 14oz spray.
Suggestion two: check the websites of local craft brewers/distillers. Here in Tallahassee, we have a lively craft brewing scene, and two of our brewers, Proof and Ology, are now making and selling sanitizer and rubbing alcohol. Doing well by doing good, eh? Proof was even giving away a small sanitizer with every beer order for awhile.
Stay safe!

In all due respect, you cannot just ignore essential oils. Lemongrass has an incredibly high risk on skin when not diluted at a super low percentage. It can literally cause issues with your whole body. I personally would not put bed bug spray on my skin, it's awfully risky. Jmo

Yeah, there’s this ad that keeps airing touting a hand sanitizer that contains no alcohol whatsoever. As far as I can tell, it’s a new company trying to cash in.

They also advertise a low price, but you have to buy in quantity to get that “value.” They also nail you on S&H charges. They proudly advertise that their product is “not on Amazon.”

Panicked people who can’t find the good stuff are an easy mark, and think they are getting something to prevent contracting this virus.

It’s gross.

You should see what the lady up the road from me is selling. Boiled herbal tea, added in lotion, no extra preservatives. She calls it hand sanitizer (from her vast years of experience). I call it Ebola in a bottle. Reminds me, I need to email her info to the FDA. ugh. Jmo

One of the companies Trump talked to (about sending drugs to Boris) makes experimental anti-viral remdesivir.

Pulmonary Pathology of Early COVID-19 Pneumonia Identified Retrospectively in Two Patients With Lung Cancer - The ASCO Post

Just found this interesting report.

A bit of the report

"Common Scenario

According to the study, these two incidences also typify a common scenario during the earlier phase of the COVID-19 outbreak, during which a significant number of health-care providers became infected in hospitals in Wuhan, and patients in the same hospital room were cross-infected as they were exposed to unknown infectious sources. The presence of early lung lesions days before the patients developed symptoms corresponds to the long incubation period (usually 3 to 14 days) of COVID-19.

The long incubation period made it difficult to prevent transmission during the early days of this outbreak, as many health-care workers in Wuhan became infected when they were seeing patients without sufficient protection, according to Dr. Xiao. As of today, more than 15 doctors in Wuhan have died of COVID-19."

Rest of the report at the link.

BTW, did you read back thread how I got shorted on my Rx refill of the Hydroxychloroquine because of all the talk about it. There's a shortage of it now. Only got 14 pills instead of the usual 100, but it's counted as a full refill. I don't mind if it turns out to really help save lives. It helps with my RA a lot.

I don't understand when you say it's been counted as a full refill? When my pharmacist is short on one of my scripts, it's indicated on the bottle that a certain # of pills are owing. The refill is used yes, but it's not complete. So they call me when the balance owing comes in.

PM has been reported just now as stable and breathing on his own. Will look for link.

Boris Johnson 'stable and in good spirits'

Boris Johnson is said to be "in good spirits" in intensive care in a London hospital.

The UK's prime minister is receiving "standard oxygen treatment" but has "not required mechanical ventilation", the BBC's Vicki Young said after a Downing Street briefing.

Video report at link.

I’ve stayed far away from this thread lately and this post explains why. The last coma I was in was for eight days. I remember seizing and my granddaughter calling 911. The next thing I heard were women talking slow like I was in a dream. I couldn’t see anyone but they were talking about how interesting it is to see their patients first wake up from a coma and how inspired they are. Then I heard laughing, talking about how their husbands don’t get it and until they’re here, they never will. Then I felt something being jerked from my throat and nose. My eyes opened and the nurses were smiling. My daughter was sitting in a chair smiling at me. I asked where I was and what happened. They told me my daughter had been sitting in that chair for eight days waiting for me to get stronger. Eight whole days. I couldn’t believe it. I was in shock. Comas have helped me to realize that though - in a sense - I was gone. Life does go on without us. Ive been through these decisions several times with medical, legal and spiritual guidance. I went back and forth and had some time to make my choices. I feel for those who must make hasty decisions. These are the tough questions we all must make as we face mortality.

Thank you for these insightful words. This comforts me

Effectiveness of Hydroxychloroquine in Covid-19 Patients - Full Text View - ClinicalTrials.gov

Details of clinical trials including hydroxychloroquine.

Detailed Description:
Coronavirus (SARS-nCoV-2) is a member family coronaviridae, order Nidovirales. It is single-stranded, positive sense enveloped RNA discovered in early 1960s. Coronavirus pandemic put a lot of lives at stake. By 19 March 2020, a total of 219238 confirmed cases with 8967 being dead and 85742 recovered cases have been reported. Worldwide, in 9 days, the confirmed death cases have been doubled. The average death rate of Covid-19 per day is approximately 88 patients as of the given date. Unlike, SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV, the disease progression and mortality rate of Covid-19 is startling. The pre-pathogenic course of novel Covid-19 is yet to be determined, so the risk factors, clinical picture and medical intervention too. Only supportive therapy is being practised. Yet many trials of antimalarial drug, chloroquine and quinolone is currently taking place worldwide. According to Cortegiani A, 23 ongoing trials from China have been registered. Clinical experience from recent Wuhan epidemic came up with promising results of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine in Covid-19 positive patients. Some in-vitro studies suggest that these immunomodulant drugs can interfere with SARS-nCov-2 replication. These are federal drug authority approved medicine for malaria. Yet their effectiveness and safety in treating Covid-19 pneumonia is a question mark.

So this is what happened. A company that owns the trademark to “Healthvana,” (the product I was referencing), has no affiliation with this company that was using their name to sell this junk.

They have been ordered to stop using that name, and now go by “Handvana.”

So not only are they selling a useless product to people trying to keep themselves (and their families safe), but they stole a name in order to do it.

They aren’t explicitly claiming that this will kill Corona, but they know exactly what they are doing.

Let no crisis go to waste, or something.

Healthvana on Twitter

I think this ties into the concerns about those aquarium chemicals that the couple used as a makeshift source of hydroxychloroquine. When people are desperate, they will suspend common sense and try anything someone sells them that contains this compound, or something that sounds like it. It's only a matter of time.

Coronavirus: New Zealand health minister demoted for taking family to beach during lockdown

New Zealand's health minister has been demoted after he flouted the country's lockdown rules to take his family to the beach.

David Clark described himself as an "idiot" after he broke the coronavirus social-distancing measures put in place in March, early on in the country's COVID-19 lockdown.

He drove around 12 miles to the coast from his home in Dunedin on New Zealand's South Island to take a walk with his family.

Mr Clark had earlier admitted driving to a trail at a park near his home to go mountain biking.

Yeah, I thought this was kind of heartwarming - no deflection or tantrums about the media...just taking responsibility, and moreover, his boss holding him responsible, but with common sense and no drama. That's leadership.

"In a statement, Dr Clark said: "As the health minister it's my responsibility to not only follow the rules but set an example to other New Zealanders.

"At a time when we are asking New Zealanders to make historic sacrifices I've let the team down. I've been an idiot, and I understand why people will be angry with me."

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern admitted that "under normal circumstances" she would have sacked Mr Clark, but decided to keep him in his role as health minister amid the global pandemic and instead demote him to the bottom of the cabinet rankings.

He has also been stripped of his role as associate finance minister.

"We cannot afford massive disruption in the health sector or to our response," Ms Ardern said in a statement.

"For that reason, and that reason alone, Dr Clark will maintain his role. "But he does need to pay a price - he broke the rules. "While he maintains his health portfolio, I am stripping him of his role as associate finance minister and demoting him to the bottom of our cabinet rankings.

"I expect better, and so does New Zealand."

I'm not going to complain. I'd rather they save lives, but this is just to report my experience today. I don't know if it'll help and there's difference of opinions so far, but...

MOO, it's true that Lupus and RA patients that normally take hydroxychloroquine may be affected by the shortage of the drug for awhile.

I have taken Plaquenil for RA for years. It's a blessing and has helped me so much. Tried to get my normal 90 day refill today. I ordered it online yesterday, but
(1) They wouldn't mail it this time, said to go pick it up. (I went to the pharmacy at the hospital. Great procedures and they took my temperature when I went in.)
(2) They only gave me a 14 day supply and they count it as a full refill. Instead of 100 pills, I got 14. Oh well, it's okay, we're in a Pandemic.

As I said, I'm not complaining. I know the news and Trump has said production of the drug has been increased. I hope something can help save lives.

This was an interesting article someone posted earlier today. Combo with Zinc.
LA doctor seeing success with hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19

That is the most selfless thing I have read in YEARS. You are a beautiful person. I wish you the best; I hope that you remain well.

High doses of vitamin C is another possible option
I have always thought that high doses of Vit C are not any good as the body cannot store Vit C. The RDA just needs to be taken daily. Have you a link for the high doses theory?
