2 died with coronavirus in California weeks before 1st reported US virus death, health officials say

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Health officials say two people died with the coronavirus in California weeks before the first reported death from the disease.

Santa Clara County officials said Tuesday the people died at home Feb. 6 and Feb. 17, with the first death in the nation from the virus reported on Feb. 29 in Kirkland, Washington. The Medical Examiner-Coroner received confirmation Tuesday that tissue samples sent to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tested positive for the virus, officials said.

I live in Manitoba, Canada (pop. 1,360,396 / largest city metropolitan pop. 737,000) ... and we have brought the spread of COVID-19 to what is almost a standstill within a month with just a couple, 1 or zero new cases per day over the past week. The 6 people who have died all had some pretty serious health problems before they caught the virus. Only essential services are open, strict distancing guidelines are being followed when we go out for groceries or to the bank, and I hear no clamouring to open anything yet. No fines have been handed out. We have a compliant population and those who don't have to go to work are self-isolating voluntarily.

Our health care workers and hospitals have been prepared for a surge, but that surge isn't happening, thanks to Manitobans who care about their neighbours and don't want to burden our health care system.

Of course, I realize it's much harder to stop this vicious virus in large cities like New York and Toronto . My point is if restrictions and compliance aren't in place, this virus will continue to spread rapidly and cause much more suffering and death. Take the smart route, not the "Let's get back to business now!" side.

After I have used it (very much diluted) for washing the wound, it must then be rinsed of with clean water. Make sure you do that to stop animals licking it or rubbing their faces against it. That's the procedure. Have you a link about what is the ingredient that it the dangerous one? It would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Here is a site that has a lot of reviews and examples of uses for pets. No need to take my word for it. Some use it for their pets paws ( note @margarita25 ) and mouths even and say it is very gentle.

Scroll down at this link to read how it can cause severe ulceration in cat mouths and esophagus. Extreme caution should be used with anything that can cause this or blind you, IMO.

But if they are wearing masks, they cannot breathe droplets on you or your food. Why wouldn't you want them to protect you from that? I sure would.

I feel so much better when others in the market are wearing masks when I shop. It makes me feel much safer in their presence.
Agree. I would feel safer if they were masked.

My work shut down over a month ago and I haven’t done take-out or even gotten a latte at a drive-thru during that time. I’m not sure when I will feel safe even doing that.

Your posts always inspire me.

It creeps me out. I'm not worried about catching this and I don't want to have dinner out in a hospital environment. Like going to the ER for dinner. Just no. lol
You may need to time travel back to 2019 for a bit, then. Our new normal is going to be quite different for a while.

Battle heats up for phase-four coronavirus relief bill

The Senate's passage of a $484 billion coronavirus relief bill on Tuesday is setting the stage for negotiations on an even bigger package that could rival the $2.2 trillion CARES Act passed by Congress last month.

The legislation would funnel tens of billions if not hundreds of billions to state and local governments and could address infrastructure spending and election security.

I think the virus hides and can return. It seems to show up in every which way. It's a Shape Shifter virus. Can they say for sure after fourteen days with no human contact that you definitely don't have it hiding within you? Hopefully, it can't fool the antibodies using the glucose collected from survivors of the virus. It's not a crown, it's wearing horns, and it must be destroyed.

Saying my prayers. Good Night Everyone.
Unfortunately, they can’t say much for certain about it yet. I appreciate doctors like Katydid’s mother’s cardiologist who admit they just don’t know things.

I havent heard a single infectious disease specialist or doctor say that they are worried about COVID being spread through take-out food. In fact, they say they order take-out. Even people who don't wipe down the containers (like me) are at very low risk of catching it. I do wash my hands when I come in and then after the food is on my plate and the containers are in the garbage.

Those patients all tested negative for the virus at some point after recovering, but then tested positive again, some up to 70 days later, the doctors said.

Many have done so over 50-60 days.

The prospect of people remaining positive for the virus, and therefore potentially infectious, is of international concern, as many countries seek to end lockdowns and resume economic activity as the spread of the virus slows.

Currently, the globally recommended isolation period after exposure is 14 days.

And this is part of the case for everyone wearing masks in public until we have a greater understanding of how this works.

In the area of South Florida where I live, hand sanitizer vanished from too many stores too quickly - it was simultaneous and in my opinion, not a natural shopping pattern. This was before the virus emerged in my county, and the level of awareness hadn’t spread yet. When I couldn’t find any hand sanitizer at my local Walgreens, I tried 3 more Walgreens, 3 CVS stores, 2 Walmarts, and 1 supermarket within a 12 mile radius on the same evening. They were gone from all of these stores almost simultaneously. Restaurants were still crowded, and life was normal. I attribute the disappearance of hand sanitizer to an organized effort, similar to the Tennessee case. So far, I haven’t been able to buy any hand sanitizer, like many of the people on this forum.

This is a disappointing aspect of the pandemic - predators and retailers unprepared to deal with them.

i am n south Florida too and cannot figure out
why hand sanitizer and alcohol arent restocked--
i cannot believe no store, including Walmart dont
have this ever in stock!!!!

Ohio sheriff files charges after Amish hold large barn party

“There is some concern out there and we are getting reports of large gatherings happening,” Geauga Sheriff Scott Hildenbrand told Fox 8. “If we get calls, or find out about them, we will go there, break them up and get them out of there. We won’t tolerate this and we have to keep everybody safe."

Here’s the thing. I have never believed that many employees of certain types of restaurants are always careful between handling money and handling food/drinks. And it’s just not worth it to me, especially now that I have figured out how to make the perfect latte at home ;)

I don’t care if others want to continue to do take-out and pick-up. But it’s not for me at this time. I mentioned it because yesterday I went in to work for a bit. I happened to mention to my mother that I had a latte on the way there. She asked me if I stopped at the local coffee drive-thru. My answer was heck no. I’ve seen those gals handle money and then turn around and make a drink.

I have the same attitude....while at the same time have no appetite for take-out. I think it's safe and I truly want to support local businesses, but I still don't really want take out. I wish I did and I hope the appetite returns.

(In the meantime, my at-home appetite is more than active and fulfilled with too many homebaked goods. Had chocolate chip cookies for breakfast today.)

I can't fathom what will be done in the future as to increases in rates for federal and state taxes, not to mention insurance costs next year and in the future due to this to butress the shortfalls.

The elephant in the room, and I haven't seen ANY MSM or anyone speaking of such yet.

Has anyone here seen and I just missed it, or could share when they come upon such? TIA

I assume you are being facetious.

In this thread we have discussed from the beginning what precautions we each take. Some take much more radical steps than I do when shopping, but I have never felt the need to reply as if it was overkill. Because I support each of us doing what makes us comfortable.

I miss the thread being more like it was in the beginning where we were simply supportive of each other when we discussed what kinds of changes we were making.

So agree. I personally will not be eating anything prepared outside the home indefinitely.

Those are the types of docs like @katydid23 that I admire sooooooooooo much. They then also turn around and say "I'll look into", and they DO IT. I'm sure many are just as confused as we are, and look to their associations for guidance they release e.g. the Heart Association paper. https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/JAHA.120.016509

"Take Out Tuesday" to support local businesses. We have been doing our "due diligence" to support the locals. While I have not been overly hungry, I did take one for the team, and we forced ourselves to order a specialty house cured bacon and onion tart flambe yesterday. Made with creme fraiche.

Yum.

Is there any kind testing they could devise, to see if these recovered patients can reinfect others, months later if they test positive still?
i call that one of the million dollar questions.
