I was speaking to the mask policy, in general, for restaurants. If the patrons aren't wearing masks, it's not going to do much good for the servers to wear masks. jmo
If the waiters are wearing masks this will help protect the patrons. It may also slightly help to protect the waiters. This is why I was surprised that a restaurant was telling its waiters not to wear masks, I would think that protecting patrons would be good for business.

So, would you eat on a garden outside patio at a restaurant?

Yes. But probably more inclined to do takeout.

Idle Musing - What is it gonna be like when all the "unemployment+ Stimulus money" runs out for individual people/families late this Summer ?......moo

Just based on myself and my personal contacts, I know there are lots of people who can't wait to go back to eating in restuarants. I'm one of them. One of my bff's in Texas texted me a pic of her eating out last night at her fave Mexican place for cinco de mayo. To each their own. jmo

And this is why I make and eat my food at home.

When restaurants first closed and were offering curb side pick up or drive through service only, I asked how people would know that none of the people preparing the food had the virus. Were they all being tested before being allowed to make and sell food? The answer was 'no'. So, I didn't see that as a safe option.

But like you said: To each their own.

It has been mild here this spring. I doubt that many people staying in their own homes right now have their a/c running. I'm in NYC and it's actually a bit chilly today, for example. We've really only had a couple of warm days during lockdown, and even then, it was in the 70s for a few hours.

Yes, I know some people run the a/c even in mild weather. But based on personal observation, I don't think a/c explains the graph today showing most new cases are from people staying home. My guess only.

jmopinion

Even though these people are staying home they may be getting regular visits from friends and relatives who are out in the public.

Staying home is not necessarily the same thing as total isolation. I suspect they are catching Covid from a personal contact.

Here's a tip for you when checking on the status of your check. It has worked for several people who were unable to find out the status of their check. You type in your SS#, your street address, and your zip code. When you type in your street address, use all upper case letters. i.e. 123 MAIN ST., instead of 123 Main St. I hadn't been able to find the status of my check and tried it. It worked for me.

If that doesn't work, some people I know finally had success last week by copying & pasting their residential address exactly as listed on the USPS Zip Code site.

There still isn't any proof that the virus can be transmitted through food. The only way it could happen is if the virus was on the bag, container, wrapping, etc., and got transmitted through contact with that.

supermarket workers were getting it left and right a few weeks back and hundreds of meat packing employees tested positive recently. I haven’t heard of any cases where the virus was spread through eating prepared food, and food is a necessity.

If it can't be transmitted through food for sure, they wouldn't be recommending that people thoroughly wash their fruits and vegetables before eating them.
I wouldn't want anyone who had the virus to cough, or even breathe, on my taco before giving it to me.

Sure, but does eating food from a restaurant where the workers have Covid sound appealing?

When it comes to consumers spending money, perception plays a big role.

Pure hell, IMO. Every other day I google "States likely to financially recover from Covit-19 shutdowns" ?
Not an article to be had yet.
We will be leaving California as soon as possible. For us, we wanted to leave anyway, but California's leaders and how they've handled this shutdown has made us even more anxious to get out asap. Personally, we think, California will fare worse than many other States.
It's not had a business friendly atmosphere for decades, this situation has and will make it worse. Imo

My biggest concern is that these incidents will increase in number as the "economy opens" and companies will discourage news outlets from reporting it. So the public won't know which restaurants in their communities are doing a good job of running a safe operation. In my state, I'm guessing you'll have to make formal written requests for information from the local or state health department.

JMO, we take for granted that some news outlets are reporting these stories now. I don't think it will continue much longer. I know in the metropolitan area where I live, you never see any kind of news stories about problems at restaurants, retailers or any kind of business. We're on our own.

With all the sad news about businesses struggling/closing, Publix is doing great...

Publix announced Friday that sales in the first quarter of 2020 increased approximately $1 billion compared to the same time last year, due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

3 more Orlando-area Publix employees test positive for COVID-19

I don't have a large chain near me and have been grocery shopping at individually-owned places. They have my utmost respect for doing so much to serve the community. If they are making money hand over fist during Covid, they earned every cent of it.

I just hope the workers are sharing in the profits as they are troopers.

How will restaurants ever recover from this? I used to eat out everyday for lunch and sometimes dinner. My favorite restaurants are the Mom and Pop restaurants with the home cooking, who have been around for decades. Restaurants here were allowed to re-open last Friday with restrictions i.e. 50% capacity, servers must wear masks etc. None of the Mom and Pop restaurants re-opened. A chain restaurant re-opened yesterday and took in $1000 in sales in 8 hours. I'm sure you know how devastating that is.
Will the current restaurants ever re-cover or are we looking at all new restaurants opening in a couple of years?
