Thank god
No offense to golfers specifically but I was sick of hearing all the whining about it. And it was legit whining from adults.
Sorry if that sounds pissy of me. I’m tired. Aren’t we all though Probably a bit of whining from me right there lol

Millbury alleges Clearview golf course is open illegally

Golf will be played in Massachusetts this weekend, according to a report from MassLive that Gov. Charlie Baker will announce specific guidelines for the sport’s reopening on Thursday.

The suspected announcement comes days after two golf courses in central Massachusetts announced plans to defy Baker’s stay-at-home order and open for play. Cara Cullen, who owns Kettle Brook Golf Club in Paxton and Wachusett Country Club in Boylston, told Fox News on Monday that her courses would open.

Logical and positive news. I drove to CT to play golf yesterday. Safer to golf than spend 15 minutes in Walmart- with a high density of people in a closed environment.

Modified rules in CT- Flags stay in the holes and there is a foam thingy around the flag and recessed in the hole so that you can pick ball up without reaching in the hole. One person per cart or walk the course. Never a need to get closer than six feet apart.

Courses in CT are booked solid every week while courses 20-60 miles in MA away risked going bankrupt.

Also, I played with a group of eight guys. Polling them individually without being obvious, I found they all were pretty educated about CV, had little fear of it, thought the vulnerable needed better protection, and wanted things to open up.

The unemployment insurance situation is becoming a problem for so many people. And we are not seeing MSM MSM articles about it.

This is an absolute windfall for a lot of minimum wage workers who lost their jobs. More money than they ever have had before.

Here is the problem:
1. SNAP, EBT, Medicaid, looks at assets, if a person on those programs tries to just save the money, to fix their car, whatever, that assest throws them off the programs.
2. If they are on Medicaid, this income blows them off of the program. So, to stay on the medical, they would have a potential spend down of over $1200, depending on their program, state, and benefit.

So, some people are paying off bills, buying extra items, others are purchasing new tvs, computers, phones, whatever.

I honestly believe that this was only the first wave of the Pandemic, and the subsequent job losses. I predict a lot more next quarter. And those folks will probably be higher wage workers, without that $600 a week bonus, which ends in July. JMO.
Friday's the big day.
At 8:30 a.m. EST on the first Friday of every month (with a rare exceptions), the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) releases the Employment Situation Summary, otherwise known as the Employment or Jobs Report.

IMHE model continues to perplex:

IHME | COVID-19 Projections

Note the uptick from the reopenings. It would seem we're in an upward linear (not exponential curve), but of course, the IMHE isn't running many variables through its model so it predicts a sharp decline. I do not think there will be a sharp decline. I'm favoring the Los Alamos model:

Where The Latest COVID-19 Models Think We're Headed — And Why They Disagree

There's going to be a steady increase in deaths from CoVid in the US throughout the summer, slowed perhaps by more humid weather. With so many places still with low antibody rates (some counties have had zero cases so far), next fall may see a brief period of steeper increase.

See page 3 of the CDC report:

https://int.nyt.com/data/documenthe...f7319f4a55fd0ce5dc9/optimized/full.pdf#page=1

Lots of white and light gray. More scarcely populated places, of course, but people live there too. Once summer travel begins, especially in places like Arizona, CoVid will reseed itself in some more remote places, sadly. Utah experts are worried about it. And, in fact, they seem to be at the beginning of a linear curve - but with most people sensibly self-isolating:

Utah reports six coronavirus deaths, most in a single day

Almost 1.3 million Americans are now confirmed to have CoVid; only 213,000 are recovered. The asymptomatic carriers must be a much larger group.

The deaths per case diagnosed rate in the US remains higher than in, say, Germany. That probably speaks more to our disproportionate use of tests for the severely symptomatic to moderately symptomatic.

Coronavirus Dashboard

In the past 5 days, the per million death rate in the US has climbed from 198 to 224, with the biggest increase happening in the past 24 hours (which is why the IMHE model now shows a climb and not a plateau).

Belgium still leads the world with 738 deaths per million and has announced a soft reopening. Colleagues of mine who are associated with various commissions that meet in Brussels are quite concerned, but one person told me that Belgium feels an "obligation to reopen so that the international community can continue to meet." So many international meetings there. Very little has been written about what, exactly, Belgium has done to slow the rate. Right next door, France has a much lower rate. France is slowly dropping out of the top 5 hardest hit nations.

Sweden stands to bump The Netherlands and perhaps even France out of their current standings:

I'm sure diet does play a role, though I'm no expert. Being overweight seems to be a risk factor.

Not sure if being a vegetarian or meat-eater plays a role or not. A diet of junk food will not serve anyone well, of course.

jmo

based on my experience, absolutely yes
I'm overweight cause I eat vegan junk food BUT my bloodwork comes back pristine - it surprises people because of my weight, they expect issues
my husband went vegan when he was diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesteral (he did not want to take pills and is not overweight) and voila, no more high blood pressure or high cholesteral - our dr. was impressed
IMO diet makes a huge difference

I was shocked in walmart the other day. They're using every other check lane and also close down every other self checkout. Happy, but shocked.

They've been doing that for at least 3 weeks in my town in Ontario. Plus we have to line up outside 6 feet apart and are allowed in when a customer leaves.

I am surprised that all areas of the stores are open though. You can still buy clothes, a BBQ, bath towels, kid's toys, etc but smaller stores selling those items have to stay closed.

Even in a pandemic the giant retailers get a pass.

the butcher who packaged your meat could have coughed on it just as easily as a restaurant worker. Jmo

But it would still be fewer people coughing on it. The restaurant has the potential for at least the cook and the waiter to cough on it, as well as the butcher (and maybe more than that). At the grocery, the butcher may have coughed on it, but after that, it's only me who might get germs on it, and they're my germs.

Since Shelley Luther received a PPP loan, she should have been able to support herself, her stylists salaries, and pay her rent and utilities for 8 weeks. Since it hasn’t been 8 weeks since the first round of funding, how did she run out of that money already? Jmo

eta - I just saw in a different article that she received the funds on Sunday. So she why won't she agree to close her business? That's literally the point of the loan - to keep your employees on payroll, pay your rent, and keep your business from permanently closing.

maybe she was already behind in her rent/mortgage/utilities etc.

JMO.

I thought the federal unemployment bonus of $600 a week ends on December 31, 2020 and not July, but will have to double check. And if there is a need in the fall to extend this, that may well happen.

Millbury alleges Clearview golf course is open illegally

Board of Health Chairman James M. Morin said he and police officers twice went to the golf club to hand the cease-and-desist order to the owner, Neil Lummis.

Morin said they were greeted with belligerence. On one occasion, Lummis allegedly ripped up the order. On another, he refused to come from behind a glass doorway, but was nonetheless served the order, according to Police Chief Donald Desorcy.

I get it. This guy may go bankrupt, while Raceway Golf Course in Thomson CT is having their best season ever. There is only 30 miles between them.

There are so many equivalents in the economy like this. It's hard, because we are in new territory handling the crisis, so I tend not to point fingers and get angry. But I hope for logic to prevail. In this case, Baler opening up the Massachusetts golf courses made complete sense.

Hope he's okay, and that the infection will not affect his military career. I'm assuming "personal valet" is like in Downton Abbey? If so, probably not necessary for our military people to put themselves at risk in such a job right now. I'm assuming most of us get by without personal valets. Secret Service or his family members who are in the WH can probably help with getting him food and drinks safely, if he can't do it himself (which maybe he will). JMO.
