"President Donald Trump said Friday that he has deemed churches and other houses of worship “essential" and called on governors across the country to allow them to reopen this weekend despite the threat of spreading the coronavirus.

“Today I’m identifying houses of worship — churches, synagogues and mosques — as essential places that provide essential services," Trump said during a hastily arranged press conference at the White House, where he didn't take questions. He said if governors don’t abide by his request, he will “override” them, though it’s unclear what authority he has to do so."

MOO.. I think this data may have been on the CDC website for awhile, as it has no date and states to be used for states and localities to plan for the pandemic.

Moo..MSM was looking for page filler. Lol

The CNN article says it is new guidance, which I tend to believe since the death rate results are critically important, and I think it would have been picked up earlier by someone in the media. I think we will hear more about these results by various sources.

How do you propose we do that? They're all minimum wage workers, and many states do not require much or any training. A doctor is "on call" and almost never sets foot in these places. Where I live, they have to have two LVN's present at all times, the remainder of the staff are either unpaid student interns or minimum wage workers who attempt to get jobs elsewhere ASAP.

A friend of mine who runs a visiting nurse business requires at least 9 units of LVN training and those people are classified as "carers," but they are still pretty expensive for a family to hire at home (we were looking into it when my dad died in a care home). For an actual nurse, it would have been $200 a day for one visit, but the things she'd have done (blood pressure, check IV) weren't really what we needed - we needed bathing, etc (so an LVN twice a day - $250 for two visits). Hospice visits were paid for by Medicare. But we couldn't have both - and Medicare wouldn't pay for in home nursing care - only care homes. A "carer" would not have been able to check his IV line or change saline - but we were told we could learn to do that ourselves. Carers had to be hired for a minimum of 8 hours a day and cost $225 a day.

He had to be in the care home for a while, in any case, as doctor wouldn't discharge him to at home care until he was able to receive therapy and start walking again.

I wish I had an answer. Increase staff numbers and increase the pay for starters, CNA's and such make very little, and the work can be very physical.
More education and vetting? And definitely more supplies are needed. These places have run on little to none when it comes to supplies (PPE). It has been a dilemma since I began in Health Care over 40 years ago.

Actually, if you look at Nicks data in the early days, its clear it was here in US.
Nicholas G. Reich (@reichlab) | Twitter

Nick is responsible for trending/modeling/forcasting flu for the CDC. His early analysis is Dec and Jan show a rise in testing for flu in the US, with a low result in positive test. His CDC grafts clearly show "something" in the US, was happening as folks were you going to Dr and ER with flu like symptoms but testing negative for flu. He tracked down to specific areas of the country, to show "something" was making people sick with flu like symptoms and it WASN'T the flu. He also had the advantage of being in a hotspot in Europe during the early days, experiencing what was happening in Germany and Italy at the time.

This was before we had Covid testing. Now that we have Covid testing,

MOO...ERs and Dr's will so a rapid flu test and if negative test for Covid.

Imho...
Sorry. I should have been more clear. I'm curious about what would happen on an intracellular level of a cell infected with both influenza and SARS-Cov2.

not sure. I began posting here the latest news from WH press conference happening now. WH Opening all houses of worship today, overriding all governors. .Although new guidelines, it could sound political. , so better safe than sorry. Delete most of post.

Same here. Drs Campbell and Seheult have new info on their posts as to what is going on, could sound political as they talk about what governments are doing with the virus but may be considered political now, so better safe than sorry, therefore also just saying as you - updates.

I read the paper, and respectfully disagree with many of your points that perhaps you got from Main stream media. This is a continuing issue IMO that folks read the headlines and don't do like we do with criminal cases, and take the time to go to the source. MSM folks often have NO idea how to read science articles. MOO

it is incorrect that 3% of females were used in the study. It was 45.2% MOO See screenshot from paper

The paper states what countries the information is from, and to answer your other question.. none are from China (which had the best first paper for the world MOO) See screenshot from paper

Great example of why folks need to go to the source or science and articles vs. not reading beyond the headlines of MSM who don't get it right many times.

I analogize it to criminal cases. MSM often gets it wrong, doesn't interpret correctly. That's why I like Florida to see the evidence. Don't take the word of such perhaps, but look deeper.

It's a darn shame as MSM is .......well........MOO

Here is the paper , it was not at the link that you posted ...........

Respectfully I did post the link to the study. I did read the study and understand who complied the data, a private data company from the US and the funding source. In the chart it is noted studies from Asia were use, China may or may not be a source.

Yes, Florida gets a A++ on Covid reporting. They've set the bar high and are national recognized for transparency!!!:)

Excellent thought. It will be interesting to see if the medical community will test for both and what the CDC protocol will be. I do know that SARS-Cov2 did not show positive with the flu test.

Excellent post and explanation, and yes the concept of Ro is butchered in the media, and I believe intentionally- the same as misquoting high death rates from CV-19, using deaths per confirmed cases.

Having a lowered Rt from fractional immunity when the second wave hits in the fall will be important in minimizing the damage. NYC may have 35% or more of the population with immunity by fall, and my guess is they will be hit least by a future outbreak. Their infection rates are amazingly low right now for a highly dense urban environment, with 25% of the population having antibodies.

Is the current low infection rate partially due to a significant portion of the population having immunity? I think so.

COVID-19: Data Summary - NYC Health

I've not seen anything saying 25% positive. Not thinking even possible MOO Link?

He's so cute when he thinks he's in charge.

"The federal government cannot commandeer the machinery of the state governments (or, by extension, of local governments). That is, the federal government cannot coerce the states into taking actions to suit federal policy preference. See, e.g., New York v. United States and Printz v. United States. And so, the federal government cannot compel state and local officials to promulgate different rules on social distancing and the like."

Can the Federal Government Override State Government Rules on Social Distancing to Promote the Economy?

Trump deems places of worship ‘essential,’ claims he can order their reopening

Not opened yet. The governors will be overrided if they don't open the churches, per the press conference. Sounds like a possible showdown!

"The governors need to do the right thing and allow these very important, essential places of faith to open right now, for this weekend," he said. "If they don't do it, I will override the governors. In America, we need more prayer, not less."

POTUS has no authority over the issue.

I just watched HHS Secretary Azar on Fox News. Amazing. He says verbatim word for word almost exactly what VP Pence and President Trump states.

1. People need to go back to work.
2. Children need to go back to school.
3. There are mental health issues and increased suicides across the country.

What I am not hearing is that those things are safe. Or any actual evidence/data numbers on suicides.

Okay.

Preprint:

Risk of Ischemic Stroke in Patients with Covid-19 versus Patients with Influenza

"Conclusions and Relevance: Approximately 1.5% of patients with emergency department visits or hospitalizations with Covid-19 experienced ischemic stroke, a rate 7.5-fold higher than in patients with influenza. Future studies should investigate the thrombotic mechanisms in Covid-19 in order to determine optimal strategies to prevent disabling complications like ischemic stroke."

Is that when the numbers will be corrected?
Can anyone guesstimate what the extra deaths for those 17 states might be?

In Virginia they will be much greater. As an example, Virginia counts a nursing home/LTC facility as a person. So, if the facility has 30 deaths it is counted as ONE. I have two NHs with > 20 deaths each, in my area, all counted as one.

Virginia has some funny numbers going on. We have a large outbreak on the Eastern Shore with high infection rate from testing in poultry plants, May 4th. They sent a special CDC team in for the testing. Virginia's not reporting any of these.

State’s official Eastern Shore virus data still doesn’t show hundreds of poultry worker tests

Following nationwide outbreaks of COVID-19 at meat processing plants, Perdue Farms and Tyson Foods tested some 2,875 workers at their plants in Accomac and Temperanceville in Accomack County during the week of May 4. Of those, 510 tests were positive, according to a May 15 news release from the Eastern Shore Health District.

My employer, a national healthcare organization, announced work from home till 7/31/20 for essential employees, who can work from home. That's 70 days away. Meanwhile, the states seem to be opening up quickly now. Well, not my state.
