Put it in brown paper bag-that's what doctors do when reusing it. That's what I am doing with mine.

I wonder why they're doing that? Are they putting their names on the bag?

They are putting names on a bag. But paper bag also allows the mask to breathe, and virus should dry out and die eventually (whereas plastic bag doesn't allow mask to breathe). Also, when it goes for sterilization, the hospital will take it out, UVC sterilize it in a special room, then stick it into a clean paper bag that goes back to the owner of the mask. Bag also keeps the mask out of contact with other surfaces that might not be clean (such as a seat of the car in your case).

Over the past two months, the number of positive tests in the U.S. has only dropped 20%. Bad news- shouldn't we stay locked down?

upload_2020-5-26_9-4-16.png

But new deaths have dropped 60% in that time, and the trend is downward.

Good news- the effective death rate of COVID-19 infections is going down significantly (even accounting for any delay in death reporting).

1) senior homes are now better protected
2) vulnerable people are sheltering
3) hospitals are not overcrowded and are prepared
4) nobody was previously prepared to shelter in place until the virus was rampant
5) it is now known that the virus is asymptomatic in many people

The CDC has said the best estimate for CV-19 death rate is 0.27%, which is an order of magnitude lower that the numbers typically thrown out in reporting. This is based on past data, which includes over 50,000 senior living deaths (out of 100,000 deaths in U.S.).

I strongly believe the CV-19 death rate going forward will continue to drop, and will end up between 0.10-0.15%. And a large segment of the population that is not in danger of COVID-19 seems willing and unafraid of being infected. I don't view this as a bad thing.

The virus isn't the boogeyman we were told.

It's definitely the boogeyman to the elderly and obese, though. Jmo

Exactly. We can do much better going forward.

I wish there was a serious government discussion of protecting vulnerable workers with furloughs and unemployment benefits. Then most people could be protected, although there are many caveats where vulnerable was still have exposure, such as multi-generational families. But it is a pandemic, and we have to do the best we can on all fronts.

We're still on page 1 lol.

I lay mine out side facing up on the passenger seat.
I lay mine on the car dash, with the inside facing up. It gets direct sunlight and benefits from the high temperature in the car.

I think you can take the mask off in the car and put it back on when going back out (using hand sanitizer before taking it off and putting it back on). Keep it in a paper bag in between. That's what they were telling the doctors to do when reusing their supposedly one time disposable N95s-keep it in a brown paper bag between uses.
I just hang mine on the rear view mirror while driving.

Before we all start celebrating how harmless this virus is and how the cases are going down-it's not true. In many states cases are going up. it's only going to get worse with people not social distancing.
"On Friday, "that number went up, and there were more than 24,000 Americans newly diagnosed with Covid-19.""
US coronavirus: Cases surge in some states as Americans celebrate Memorial Day - CNN

Harmless- I didn't say. I just gave some facts that I doubt most people know, or don't want to know.

I generally disregard CNN, other than to read a headline and to know the opposite is true.

"On Friday, "that number went up, and there were more than 24,000 Americans newly diagnosed with Covid-19."

There was no spike in CV cases on Friday, just normal fluctuation in counting cases by date. Attached is the 7 day moving average which smooths out reporting delays. A slight downward trend is seen.

upload_2020-5-26_11-24-41.png

The CNN article also refers to -

North Carolina reported its highest single-day increase of new coronavirus cases, just a day after the state rolled into its second phase of reopening.

CNN tells us- see what happens when you reopen...stay shutdown!

Scary stuff, except coincidentally that state had a large proportionate increase in testing on Friday. There was no spike in percentage of positive tests. The inference by CNN is intentional misinformation that fools most people.

Problem is that most people are done being fooled.

The behavior of people the last couple of weeks tells me this.

Reopening would not affect cases just a day later anyway because of the incubation period. Most of us know that so we cannot be fooled by inaccurate reporting, I agree.

Anti-viral drug that speeds recovery offered by NHS

Interesting.

"A drug treatment that appears to shorten recovery time for people with coronavirus is being made available on the NHS.

Remdesivir is an anti-viral medicine that has been used against Ebola and other emerging diseases, such as Mers.

UK regulators say there is enough evidence to approve its use in selected Covid-19 hospital patients.

For the time being and due to limited supplies, it will go to those most likely to benefit.

The US and Japan have already made similar urgent arrangements to provide early access to the medicine before they have a marketing agreement.

The drug is currently undergoing clinical trials around the world, including in the UK.

Early data suggests it can cut recovery time by about four days. "

Article on President of Purdue University in Indiana and plans for his campus to reopen in the fall. He gives the following statistics on college-age students and covid-19:

".... this bug, so risky in one segment of the population, poses a near-zero risk to young people. Among covid-19 deaths, 99.9 percent have occurred outside the 15-to-24 age group; the survival rate in the 20-to-29 age bracket is 99.99 percent."

I would like to see colleges and universities provide the percentage of their employees (faculty and staff) who are 60+ years of age, and to state how they plan to address their safety. For example, Cal State University Long Beach states that 12% of their employees (faculty and staff) are in the higher risk age group.

Purdue University president says not reopening in the fall would be 'unacceptable'

Rapper Sneakbo has been criticised after "up to 200 people" gathered as he filmed a music video during lockdown.

The artist was seen shooting the video in Buckingham Park, Aylesbury, on Friday, as The Bucks Herald reported.

A crowd gathered in the area after the Brixton rapper said online he wanted "to see everyone on the block".

Thames Valley Police said officers spoke to those involved and "encouraged them to leave the area and to comply with social distancing guidelines".

So, I am clinically obese, and over age 55, does that mean that I can quit my job and get government support for the rest of my life?

Yeah, I don't think so.

Sports events 'shut down too late to save lives'

Image captionMore than 250,000 people flocked to Cheltenham for its annual horse racing festival in March
Two major sporting events held in March "caused increased suffering and death", the scientist leading the UK's largest Covid-19 tracking project has said.

Data gathered from millions of volunteers found coronavirus "hotspots" shortly after the Cheltenham Festival and Liverpool's Champions League match against Atletico Madrid.

Professor Tim Spector said rates of cases locally "increased several-fold".

The government said many factors could influence cases in a particular area.

Less than three months ago sport across the UK was continuing as normal, despite the impending threat of coronavirus - which had already prompted some European countries to stage such events without spectators, or completely call them off.

Sports governing bodies in the UK were taking their cue from Prime Minister Boris Johnson who declared in early March that people should "as far as possible, go about business as usual".

On the first weekend in March, there was a full programme of football in both England and Scotland, five horse racing meetings, and Six Nations rugby at Twickenham between England and Wales - which the prime minister himself attended.

It was a different matter elsewhere. A forthcoming Six Nations match in Dublin had already been postponed, along with the Chinese Grand Prix and football matches in virus-stricken northern Italy.

The UK government's stance remained consistent. Just 24 hours before Cheltenham opened its gates to 250,000 spectators on 10 March, Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden rebuffed growing calls for a ban on mass outdoor gatherings.

He told the BBC: "There's no reason for people not to attend such events or to cancel them at this stage."

But Prof Spector from King's College London said "people will have probably died prematurely" because of the decision.

So did these events contribute to a surge in coronavirus cases?

It's impossible to say for certain, but figures seen by the BBC Radio 4's File on 4 programme show in the last week of March, Liverpool and Cheltenham were among the areas with the highest number of suspected cases.

Oh, yeah, it's over. Don't believe this for a minute. And, MN is in the process of reopening.
Minnesota ICU beds in use for COVID-19 patients reach new high
Minnesota ICU beds in use for COVID-19 patients reach new high

From the same article. I doubt the outlet had headlines about the 95% ICU beds filled during flu season.

"In the Twin Cities metro area, 87% of ICU beds were full Monday. During the influenza season, it’s not unusual to have ICU beds filled to more than 95% capacity, Smith said."
